Ash Vs Cynthia : Final Battle Review

Ash vs. Cynthia is the last battle of Pokemon Journeys, and this has been trending ever since it was announced. The trailer of the battle between Ash and Cynthia is already out, and we will discuss the full battle and who wins the battle. These two amazing characters are from Pokemon Journeys: The Series, an ongoing anime releasing a new episode every week. The battle between Ash and Cynthia continues in Pokemon Journeys: The Series Episode 122 to 124, which is around the corner. Many fans have already predicted the battle.

CHAMPION CYNTHIA’S POKÉMON

  • Spiritomb, level 61, ghost/dark
  • Roserade, level 60, grass/poison
  • Gastrodon, level 60, water/ground
  • Togekiss, level 63, fairy/flying
  • Milotic, level 63, water
  • Garchomp, level 66, dragon/ground

There is a reason why so many people make jokes about Cynthia being a nightmare, and it’s because she kind of is one. Her diverse team makes her hard to plan against, and many of them hit so hard that you need to knock them out immediately before they leave some serious dents in your party.

Many of them have easy weaknesses to exploit, but speed becomes the name of the game because her Pokémon will counter you if you try to exploit their weaknesses. Between Milotic knowing Ice Beam (because of course it does) and Gastrodon knowing Sludge Bomb, Cynthia is an annoying fight.

Notably, her Garchomp is a high-leveled monster. If you try to exploit its quadrupled weakness to ice-types, it will use Earthquake, and it will hurt a lot. That said, if you have a non-ice-type that knows ice-type moves, that will be your best bet in taking it down. Knock it out quickly, as it also knows Swords Dance, a move that sharply boosts its attack, and that’s enough to make a grown man cry or at least make a Dragon Claw hurt very much.

Pokemon Ash Team

  • Pikachu, level 60, Electric
  • Dragonite, level 60, Dragon/Flying
  • Gengar, level 60, Ghost/Poison
  • Lucario, level 60, fighting/steel
  • Sirfetch’d, level 60, Fighting
  • Dracovish, level 60, Water/Dragon

Only Based on Our Estimation

Ash Ketchum has been on the hottest win streak of his life in the Pokémon Journeys anime and now stands a mere three wins away from being declared the official strongest trainer in the world. Granted, those three wins must come against his strongest rival ever, Alain, and two of the iconic Regional Champions Lance, Steven, Cynthia, Iris, Diantha and Leon. It certainly helps that Ash himself is a Regional Champion and has already defeated Iris once in the World Coronation Series, but that this conversation is even taking place is indicative of the anime’s no-win situation regarding the future of its lead protagonist.

Pokemon Ash Team

It’s no coincidence that once Ash became a Regional Champion by winning the first-ever Alola League Tournament, the anime broke its formula and opted not to have him partake in a traditional Gym Challenge in a new region. After all, Ash likes to start over whenever he travels to a new area, and it would have been more than fans could bear to watch an actual Champion lose to, like, a Geodude or something while trying to win some meager Gym Badge. Now that Ash holds the same title as the canonically most powerful trainers in Pokémon, competing for Gym Badges is officially beneath him.

Ash Vs Cynthia Recap Part 1 & 2

Ash Vs Cynthia Part 1 Episode 123 Recap

Hello everyone, one of the most anticipated battles in the history of the Pokemon franchise Ash vs Cynthia has just begun and so far I’m actually really enjoying it. Let’s take a look, the battle starts with Ash sending out Dragonite and Cynthia sending out Spiritomb.

This Spiritomb is a menace, this is the demolisher of dreams right here. Once again, I think they’ve done Dragonite dirty. Whenever an attack comes its way, it just kind of stands there and takes it and then also takes a long while to release an attack of its own. Dragonite only really landed one hit which was Draco Meteor and it really didn’t do much to Spiritomb.

He’s then put to sleep and Spiritomb finishes it off with Dream Eater which not only does damage but also heals the user so Spiritomb is most likely back to full HP. During this battle so far, Cynthia does a lot of switching out and uses a lot of strategies. So right now she switches into Roserade while Ash sends out Gengar. Roserade uses Bullet Seed and Gengar uses Shadow Ball. Afterwards Gengar uses Will-O-Wisp and burns Roserade.

And at this moment Cynthia uses a thousand percent of her brain capacity and remembers that Roserade’s ability is Natural Cure which means if switched out any status conditions will be healed. So Cynthia switches out into Spiritomb once again and because of Green Meter Spiritomb is back to full HP, therefore it’s already an uneven match for Gengar.

Since it has been hit twice already, Gengar and Spiritomb create a hit and they both get back up nicely. Psych, Gengar is done, and Spiritomb is still demolishing everyone’s dreams. Cynthia switches out once again and this time sends out her Togekiss. Upon seeing this, Ash sends out Pikachu to take care of business. We soon discover though Togekiss is handling Pikachu’s business with Pikachu missing Thunderbolt, being hit by Air Slash and then getting hit again.

But Cynthia decides to switch out one more time probably because Togekiss is still weak to Pikachu, and she didn’t want to risk it. She proceeds to send out the exact opposite of Togekiss, Gastrodon, which is immune to electric type moves, and it turns out the move that.

In my last review, I predicted was Togekiss using Fire Blast ended up being Earth Power. I’m stupid. Pikachu hops on the rocks to avoid taking damage just like his strategy in X and Y. Gastrodon uses Stone Edge and Pikachu destroys the boulders with Iron Tail and uses them to its advantage by hitting them towards Gastrodon.

He then finishes it off with Quick Attack, the first win in Ash’s favor. So far, Cynthia then sends out Spiritomb once again to maybe crush some more dreams. Little did she know though, Pikachu was the dream demolisher now as then Pikachu uses strategy from way back in the Diamond and Pearl series called the Counter Shield which is where Pikachu spins around in circles using Thunderbolt which serves as a shield.

But also as an offensive move, this negates Spiritomb’s attacks and then damages it quite a bit. This was honestly my favorite scene in this episode by far. Pikachu then traps Spiritomb with Electroweb and finishes it off with Iron Tail.

However, the dream demolisher doesn’t seem to quit. He uses Destiny Bond right before fainting and in case you didn’t know, Destiny Bond is a move which takes out the opposing Pokemon in case the user fainted right before that. So even while fainted, Spiritomb still crushed everyone’s dreams and knocked out Pikachu as well and the episode ended right there. I really enjoyed this one, it was packed with strategies and references to the old shows, and it was just a blast to watch. As I said in the beginning, this is one of the most anticipated battles in the whole franchise and so far to me, it’s been really enjoyable. We’ve only seen the first of three parts of this battle, and honestly it’s already my favorite. I’m looking forward to the next episode next week.

Ash Vs Cynthia Part 2 Episode 124 Review

This is hype! The second part of Ash vs Cynthia just released, and it was my favorite Masters Eight episode so far. When today’s episode started, Cynthia still had four Pokemon.

While Ash only had three. What I loved about this episode was the attention that was given to each of Ash’s Pokemon. As of the beginning of this episode, he only has Sirfetch’d, Dracovish and Lucario left and I really liked that all three of them seemed like a priority and had great moments throughout the episode. Dracovish is forced to face against Cynthia’s ace as soon as it enters the field. They both collided and then Garchomp used Stealth Rock before Cynthia retrieved it. Stealth Rock being a move that damages any Pokemon that switched into the field on Ash’s side. This will end up being important later on. Cynthia then sends out her Roserade, an interaction.

We had seen in the previews which I predicted Dracovish would win. However, going into this, I wasn’t so sure as Dracovish looked really hurt. Roserade ends up using Poison Jab which not only damages Dracovish.

But, also poisons it for the rest of the battle. Dracovish fights back with Vicious Rend and they both take a lot of damage. This poison ends up being extremely crucial for the battle and taking a lot of health out of Dracovish.

The two Pokemon once again face each other head on as Roserade uses Leaf Storm and Dracovish uses Dragon Rush. Dracovish defeats Roserade and now as Ash tries to put Dracovish back in its Pokeball, Dracovish moves out the way signaling that he wants to continue. Another thing I loved about this episode was Team Rocket’s constant support for Ash and his team. Throughout the season they’re enemies but whenever Ash gets to the league or in this case the Masters 8, they seem to be really supportive which I always think is awesome. Cynthia sends out her Milotic and Dracovish tries to land the hit on Milotic with Dragon Rush, but Disarming Voice doesn’t allow it and then Milotic ends up wrapping itself around Dracovish.

They both played a hit, Dracovish’s Rend and Milotic’s Iron Head and Dracovish faints also in part because of the poison. Ash proceeds to send out Sirfetch’d saving Lucario for last. Sirfetch’d takes some damage from the Stealth Rock placed around the field by Garchomp earlier. Ash realizes that Stealth Rock is going to be a problem so Sirfetch’d uses his shield to destroy all the rocks on the field which was really awesome. It then dodges a Hydro Pump and the two Pokemon clash.

In the middle, Milotic seems to come out of it far more damaged than Sirfetch’d. Milotic uses Disarming Voice once again but Sirfetch’d makes it through with Meteor Assault knocking out Milotic finally making it a two vs two. Cynthia sends out her ace again, Garchomp and Sirfetch’d clash.

But Garchomp seems unfazed as it tries to attack Sirfetch’d again. Sirfetch’d dodges with Detect and Garchomp uses Draco Meteor to try and finish it. As he gets damaged by Draco Meteor, Sirfetch’d tries to sneak in another Meteor Assault and this resulted in both of the Pokemon standing there for a while. Garchomp moved and seemed to be fine.

But Sirfetch’d just stood in place. This reminded me of the Diamond and Pearl series with Barry’s Empoleon or the Sun and Moon series with Ash’s Incineroar. It was decided that Sirfetch’d was unable to battle therefore Lucario is now in a 2v1.

During this moment we listened to some really sad melody as we realized the chances of Ash winning are statistically lower now. Cynthia retrieves Garchomp and Ash sends out Lucario. As Ash sends out Lucario, Cinderace comes out of its Pokeball to cheer on Lucario. Lucario notices and smiles back and when this moment happened, I just kinda knew for sure that Lucario will win no matter what happens. Moving forward with everyone rooting for him, he definitely will not lose. Cynthia sends out her Togekiss and the battle continues.

Lucario manages to not be hit by Togekiss’s Air Slash using Bullet Punch to defend itself. It then manages to move in closer and attack Togekiss as well. As Lucario is charging up an Aura Sphere though, Togekiss uses Aura Slash again and Lucario takes a lot of damage from it.

This time after falling down to one knee and standing back up, he really appears to be fine though. The same thing from earlier happens, Air Slash is countered by Bullet Punch and then the biggest plot twist so far is revealed. Cynthia won’t Mega Evolve her Garchomp, she Dynamaxes her Togekiss and the episode ends as Ash shows that he’s about to Mega Evolve his Lucario too.

I genuinely really loved this episode. I think every Pokemon did its part, and it wasn’t just Lucario working for it as I saw some people saying. Dracovish and Sirfetch’d definitely surprised me in a good way. I loved seeing Dracovish want to stay in battle even though badly damaged and poisoned and I loved seeing Sirfetch’d becoming Captain America and using its shield.

But my favorite moments from this episode are probably the moments where Team Rocket cheered or when Cinderace came out of its Pokeball to cheer for Lucario. Overall though, great episode and I definitely think Lucario wins this in the end anyway. Thanks for reading.

Conclusion

People are hyped, people talk about this a lot, and hype is making people blind too.

Three whole episodes just for this one fight, yet the whole first ep was typical JN fare, static fights, two shots, Gengar and Dragonite did legit nothing. Gastrodon got one-shot by Quick Attack despite being absurdly tanky vs Excadrill.

And now this ep is better, but not that much. Sirfetch’d somehow makes freakin’ Garchomp stumble a lot with ONE move. Flint couldn’t do that, Iris’s Haxorus couldn’t do that in their whole match, but the duck that Ash caught a few months ago does this, sure.

Milotic got 3-shot despite also being a tanky mon, there were Two dodges in the whole episode… and they had to Nerf Cynthia so Ash can win by plot. She uses DMax on Togekiss instead of Mega Evolving her Ace for her absolute full power, so Ash will beat Cynthia without her ace being at max strength, great.
