Claymore is the show for anime lovers who want something less popular, something underrated and something that will make them think.

Berserk, a dark and gritty anime series, is often overlooked by more popular shows.

The characters are fascinating and the plot is full with twists and turns.

The Killing Bites series tells the story of Nomoto Yuuya. She is a student who is forced to participate in a secret underground fighting competition where genetically-modified animals are used.

This film is set in medieval Japan and follows the adventures Jubei Kibagami. He’s a wandering swordsman with mind-boggling strength, agility, and speed.

It is known for its action-packed, highly detailed fight scenes that often feature Jubei using his superhuman abilities against his enemies…or friends.

The Riddle Story of Devil anime series. The story centers on a group of 13 girls who enroll in an elite school.

It sounds pretty normal until you realize that 12 girls are assassins. Their target? The thirteenth student.

Riddle Story of Devil is darkly suspenseful, and will keep your attention until the end.

This anime series has it all: thrills, head-scratchers and moments that will make your heart go ‘huh!’

20. Angels of Death

Rachel, a young girl, wakes in an abandoned building and is completely amnesiac. This makes for a great horror story.

Soon, she meets Isaac, a serial killer. The pair form an unlikely alliance while they try to escape the deadly labyrinth.

19. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

The Kabaneri anime series of Iron Fortress is set in a steampunk universe that is being overrun and inhabited by the zombie-like creatures called kabane.

The series follows survivors as they try to escape and survive the kabane. They also find ways to deal with the creation of more.

Kabaneri are human-kabane hybrids. This is when we start to see more of the medical wonders.

This series is praised for its unusual setting, intriguing characters, and action-packed plot.

It is also known for its traditional Japanese themes and elements that set it apart from other anime shows.

Due to several graphic scenes in the first episode of Goblin Slayer, there has been some controversy within the anime community.

The anime was adapted several light novels and manga series, and began airing in 2018.

Goblin Slayer, a dark fantasy that features a lot of gory scenes, is about a 20-year old adventurer who rescues a 15-year-old Priestess.

They met many new characters along the way, each with different backgrounds and abilities. Goblin Slayer is a dark fantasy that shows the brutal side of battle.

16. Higurashi When They Cry

This anime is an adaptation of Higurashi When they Cry, a well-known visual novel series. It’s a murder mystery and psychological horror manga.

These games were released for the first time in 2002 and 2014, and are now available on multiple devices and consoles.

Although the anime is not a perfect adaptation, it’s very well done. As in the original game, each character is given their own story in the anime. This keeps the mystery of the source material alive.

Higurashi When They Cry takes a while to get going, but once it does it’s easy to control your speed.

A Yggdrasil, a tree that spawns small time fruits that have lasting effects depending upon gender, is found in “Mnemosyne.” You become immortal if you are a female with a timefruit.

You can become an Angel if you are a male with a Time Fruit. Rin Asogi received a time fruit from a Yggdrasil over 1,000 years ago. She has lived in Japan for years and witnessed the darkest moments of humanity’s history. Rin, her immortal assistant, runs a private investigative agency in the year 1990.

The guardian of Yggdrasil is against immortals. Apos, the guardian sends Laura, an assassin, to kill Rin and her assistant. The story centers around Rin’s survival and investigations against those who want her to die. Mnemosyne, an anime that is unique and inspired by the idea of immortality, has 6 episodes. Each episode runs 45 minutes.

14. High School of the Dead

What will you do if a zombie apocalypse strikes your city? It all starts at 5th Period for Takashi Kimuro, and his childhood love, Rei Miyamoto.

Takashi, who is leaving his class to go outside to watch the zombie phenomenon at his high school’s gates, stands on the steps. A man in his 70s with bloody clothes bangs on the school’s outer gates and bites a concerned gym teacher. The zombie virus spreads quickly to students and staff.

In an attempt to escape the zombies, Takashi ran to find his lover. They end up teaming up with Saeko Bujima, a self-described genius, Kouta Hirano, a stereotypical anime, and other people to fight the sudden decline of humanity as we know it.

WARNING: Be aware of what is happening around you when watching this series. The show may contain scenes that are too sensual. There may also be zombies in the background.

13. Hellsing OVA (“Hellsing Ultimate”)

In today’s culture, the name Hellsing is almost synonymous with the term vampire.

These horror films, which include Van Helsing in America and Hellsing OVA in Japan, have vampires and other supernatural beings present. The “Hellsing OVA” introduces a secret British branch called the Hellsing Organization that was established to protect the public from these supernatural beings.

Alucard, the most well-known and reliable killer, embarks on specialized missions to combat vampires. He is also a vampire. Alucard is a complete badass in his suit, tie, and top hat.

But when it comes killing vampires, werewolves, and other god-like creatures, nothing shouts out beasts like his semi-automatic hand cannons.

Hellsing OVA has 10 episodes that last about an hour and is a great source of blood-gushing savagery.

12. Genocyber

“Genocyber”, a controversial anime that was released in the early 1990’s is considered one of the most controversial. It is based on the popular manga with the same title.

Although they share the same name, both anime and manga are very different stories. However, they are equally insane. The story is set in the future, where mankind unites to create a single government.

With the corrupt minds of the population and the power hungry corporations who want to control the world, unity is not possible. The Kuryu Group, a powerful corporation, is trying to make the most powerful weapon in the world. It is the Genocyber.

This is a large, genetically modified human that has unstoppable strength and regeneration. Can mankind stop this force or create a new ruler?

11. Gantz

Gantz

Kei Kurono got caught in a situation when a homeless man fell into the tracks of the subway.

His childhood friend suddenly appears at the subway station and decides to help the homeless man. Masaru Katou is his friend and screams Kurono’s name.

As if Kurono doesn’t help his friend or the homeless man, he will be considered selfish and could endanger his life. He and his friend are eventually beheaded on the subway floor. Gore Anime

They are then prompted into an afterlife filled with strangers and a large, black-clad God. “Gantz” tells the story of Kei and Masaru, who must fight through their ethics and morals to please this God-like figure that gives them a second chance at life.

This gruesome anime doesn’t believe in the phrase “You Only Live Once”.

10. Fist of the North Star, Hokuto no Ken

Hokuto no Ken was the name of a popular series in martial arts back in 1984. “Fist of the North Star” was also known as Hokuto no Ken.

The series consists of 109 episodes. It is set in a post-apocalyptic universe where Kenshirou is searching for Shin, the man who allegedly took his fiancee, Yuria. Gore Anime

To allow Kenshirou to continue his search of his future wife, he must first defeat the obstacles with Hokuto Shinken.

This is his lethal fighting form. He will overcome incredible obstacles to get Kenshirou to the top. He must not forget his ultimate goal, defeat Shin and reclaim Yuria’s love.

9. Elfen Lied

The term weapons of mass destruction is often used loosely.

Lucy is a diclonius, which is a genetically altered human species. “Elfen Lied” tells the story of Lucy, who is released from her facility off Kamakura’s coast.

Lucy uses her telekinetic powers to cut through the guards and escape from the facility. Gore Anime

A sniper shot misses Lucy and her helmet is dislodged from her. Lucy is unconscious after falling off the cliff. Lucy wakes up the next morning with no memory, no clothes and no sense of speech. Kouta and Yuka, a male, meet Lucy naked on the shore.

They dress her and then take her to Kouta’s new home. Lucy is then called “Nyu”, as this is all she can speak. Kouta, Yuka and Nyu don’t realize Nyu can eliminate the human race by using just her brain.

8. Corpse Party: Tortured Souls (Bougyakusareta Tamashii No Jukyou).

“Corpse Party Tortured Souls” anime is a reimagining of the horror-RPG video game “Corpse Party”.

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls is the story of a group high school friends who gather in their classroom after school to share ghost stories and light a fire.

The ritual leads them into another dimension, where they are taken to a haunted elementary school. This school was destroyed before the construction of the high school. Gore Anime

This dimension is home to demons and ghosts that are out for blood. These students are confronted with their greatest fear, death. The anime adaptation of Corpse Party has 4 episodes, but each episode will keep you on the edge.

7. Shiki

Megumi Shimizu had always longed to live in the big city, but instead she is dead. Her death will set off a series strange deaths that will paint her small, quiet town of Sotoba with blood.

Toshio Ozaki, 32 years old, plans to investigate the deaths. He ends up working alongside Natsuno Yuuki (16 years), a cold and intelligent man who wants to find out what happened to Megumi.

6. Shigurui: Death Frenzy

Lord Tokugawa Tadanaga hosted swordsman tournaments during the Edo Era using wooden swords. Everyone will use real swords this year. There will be blood.

Both would like to be the next school or the winner of this tournament. It can only be one, but who knows how many more will be killed? Gore Anime

Akira Fudo is weak, sensitive and cowardly. However, she is also a crybaby and can do anything for a friend, even merge with the devil!

Akira is combined with the devil Amon to become a Devilman.

Akira now has the power of a devil, but still retains his gentle heart. Ryou and he begin to work together to protect humanity from demons, monsters, and other evils.

5. Dororo

Twelve demons grant the request of a greedy samurai-lord to save his dying land. But it comes at a terrible price: his son.

The demons seize his eyes, ears and nose when Hyakkimaru is born. His soul is all that remains to keep the son alive. Gore Anime

Hyakkimaru is a young man who grows up to be a wandering Samurai in order to defeat the demons who took from him.

Even if he does reclaim his body, he still has no one until Hyakkimaru meets Dororo, an orphan boy. They find reason to live together in a world full of demons and humanity.

4. Re:ZERO Starting Life in Another World

Subaru Natsuki, a shut-in Otaku, is magically transported to fantasy worlds when he walks outside to the convenience shop.

Subaru falls madly in love with a silver-haired half-elf girl. Then they are both brutally murdered.

Subaru learns that dying helps him “Return by Death” at a particular point in his life every time he is.

Subaru uses his newfound ability to track down the elf girl and plans to help him become the new ruler. He will also reveal the truth about his abilities and the reasons he came to this planet.

3. Blood-C

“Blood-C”, a horror-action series, revolves around a shrine maiden who carries a heavy burden.

Saya Kisaragi, a high school senior, is just your typical, awkward teenager. She is more concerned about her homework at night than she is with school.

Saya, armed with a divine sword from her Priest Father, promised to defeat all monsters that threaten her village. She suffers from flashbacks and headaches as more and more monsters invade the village.

Saya is approached by a small dog who asks about her promise to protect everyone. She hesitates and is unable to answer the question.

Soon, the truth about her beginnings will be revealed.

3. Basilisk

The Iga Tsubagakure ninja clan and Kouga Manjidani ninja clans have been fighting for centuries before Hattori Hanzo Ieyasu the First made a cease-fire treaty between the families.

Tokugawa Ieyasu the Shogun, who has been retired for many years, is now going to hand the leadership to one of his sons. Ieyasu broke the peace between the Igas and the Kouga to make it possible for him to select a son without bias.

Each clan must send ten of its best ninjas for a fight until death.

If the Kougas win, the Shogun position is awarded to Takechiyo, the oldest son. Kunichiyo, the younger of the Igas’ sons, is elected for the Shogun post.

This is the battle between old clans who have not fought for many years to determine the future Shogun. May the winner live for ever.

It is a huge gape in ground believed to penetrate the deepest part of the earth and contain limitless relics and creatures.

Riko, an orphan girl, discovers Reg in the Abyss. Reg is a mysterious robot boy without memories and a connection to her mother. She has never returned from the Abyss.

Riko finds a note from her mom asking her to join her. Riko and Reg leave the orphanage. explore the Abyss deepest and most darkest corners of the Abyss to uncover its greatest truths.

“Another” tells the story of Kouichi Sakakibara (a transfer student) who arrives at Yomiyama North Middle School. Kouichi immediately becomes troubled by the dark atmosphere in his class of 3-3.

The mysterious and outspoken Mei Misaki, who is ignored by the rest of the class, becomes Kouichi’s favorite. Kouichi becomes closer to Mei as he learns more about the tragic history of Yomiyama North Middle School class 3-3’s 1972 death of a girl called Misaki.

This sets him into a series of tragedies that could end his classmates’ lives or his own.
