Here’s the breakdown of what happened during episode 10’s dramatic finale of Cursed.
Cursed’s true stars are Excalibur and Nimue
Episode 10 opens with a calm moment for our heroine, the calm before the storm. Arthur, her young lover, is there to hold her. They have ended their long-running flirtation. Just in time, Nimue has accepted to become the detestable King Uther, Sebastian Armesto, in exchange for her safety. She’s still the Queen of Fey, at least for one more day. And she’s going all out to make it count.
Outside the city where Nimue and Arthur arrange the terms for their surrender, King Uther, and the Red Paladins led by Father Carden (Peter Mullan), awaited impatiently for Nimue to give up. They have the city under siege and have offered Nimue terms for avoiding a prolonged siege. There is dissension among the enemy ranks. Uther wants Excalibur and wants it fast, but Carden’s Paladins are averse to the Fey and want to see them all destroyed. He declines Carden’s proposal of a public, fanciful execution for Nimue.
Uther finds his spine just in time to resist Carden and make Nimue a martyr. He has already poisoned his mother by the savage King of the Britons, and he orders his men to make sure that Merlin (Gustaf Skarsgard) is also through. After all that, Merlin told Uther that he was proud. Uther, without any adult to guide him, agrees to allow the Fey to escape north by ship unharmed as long as Nimue surrenders the city and turns herself in. Nimue accepts but not before hiding Morgana with Excalibur in order to stop the magic sword falling into evil hands.
The Death of Nimue

Arthur guides the Fey folk to the water. Arthur, who sees the ships waiting for them at the shore, sends Nimue a message by hawk once they reach the shore. This signal is that she can now become King Uther. The jealous king is clearly not pleased that Nimue found a loophole and turned herself in without Excalibur. You’re a nice head fake, right? Not quite. It turns out that the bad guys had been plotting to betray Nimue. Carden arranged with the Ice King for the murder of all the Fey on the shore, before they board their escape ship. As Nimue is taken into Uther’s care, we witness this desperate attack.
Here is where it gets bloody. Father Carden, who has held Gawain the Green Knight in captivity for some time, finally does the right thing and kills him. Nimue’s revelation of the loss causes her to rage and reactivates her powers. With the injured Merlin, she makes a run for Uther’s camp, but Sister Iris (Emily Coates), an assassin, is hot on her heels. She is just as terrifying as she is deadly. Iris seems to be motivated to kill Nimue since she has been told that doing so will make her a true Red Paladin.

Iris follows Nimue, Merlin and feathers our heroine using arrows. Nimue tumbles to the bottom of the turbulent water below, from the rock bridge she had made her last stand. Is she dead? Although it seems unlikely, the episode ends before we know for sure. While we wait for season 2, that’s not all. The most important reveal in season 1 is the revelation that the Weeping Monk (Daniel Sharman), the series’ most intriguing antagonist, can track and kill Fey using scent. Lancelot will, naturally, be Arthur’s most powerful knight and his wife’s boyfriend.
But so much has changed since the original mythology that it’s difficult to predict if this will happen as planned. Lancelot has been protecting the young Fey boy Squirrel with his protection, and now Percival is revealed to have been another of Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table. Gawain, the Green Knight who is now dead? It is possible that he may not be dead. All of this leaves a lot to be unsure about going into season 2.

Netflix has not provided any explanation for the cancellation. He isn’t fond of explaining why they made such big decisions. Netflix does not disclose the viewership stats of its shows, except for the most popular. It is possible to speculate that the show didn’t live up to expectations. The show could have been cancelled by Netflix because it was too expensive to produce and the current pandemic adds additional complications.

Cursed premiered on Netflix in July 2020. It featured different locations throughout the United Kingdom. Season 1 was a 10 episode series. Season 2 had only 10 episodes. There was no plan to make Cursed Season 2. That’s why no release date has been set.
