Dark Winds Episode 3 : The End

Dark Winds Episode 3 : The End

The third episode of “Dark Winds” reveals many things to the viewers. This episode gives us more insight into how the robbers work. There are a lot of pawns involved in the play. This is perhaps why they may be distrustful of one another. Wanda is the one who suffers the brunt as a rat when the cops learn about Wanda’s cactus painting. Benjamin is suspicious of Wanda and decides to be cautious just in case. This is where another piece of the puzzle enters the picture.

Manuelito and Leaphorn had always been suspicious of Sally’s family, particularly her mother Ada, since the beginning. When Ada uses the same hair clip Benjamin took from her, their suspicions are confirmed. Ada then buries the clip and Wanda is bitten by a poisonous snake. Wanda dies. It could be an accident, given Leaphorn’s and Lester’s conversation about how to avoid being bitten by a Black widow. It is a common topic, so anyone can get bitten.

It is interesting to note the coincidence of Wanda being bitten and Ada casting a spell over her. “Dark Winds” has allowed its supernatural elements to flourish, even though they keep them far enough away from the audience to make it difficult for them to be real. While the show is careful, it manages to keep things in perspective while also addressing superstition. It cleverly tackles the topic that Chee was tagged as a witch by examining his backstory. Bernadette is told by Chee that his mother and he were forced to leave town because someone was spreading lies about her being witches. This conversation adds a balance to “witch” as we see someone being framed and another person acting like one. This conflicting view makes the audience wonder if this is a real thing.

Dark Winds Episode 3 : The End

Leaphorn is suspicious of Ada and asks Emma to keep close to Sally to learn as much as she can about the girl. Emma’s efforts pay off when Sally names her Frank Nakai. Father Benjamin arrives in Kinaalda disguise to express gratitude for Leaphorn’s burial. Benjamin also knows Sally, but it remains to be determined if they are related. We know Ada and Benjamin are co-workers, so it is possible that Sally saw him with his mother. However, Sally’s panic after seeing him suggests that there may be more to this story.
