“Death Note” remains one of the largest and most successful shows ever made, fifteen years after it debuted. “Death Note” is an adaptation of a manga that was created by Tsugumi Ohba, and illustrated with the help of Takeshi Obata.
The 37-episode anime TV series adaptation premiered in Japan at the end of October in 2006, and ran through June 2007. The show scored an impressive 8.63/10 from 2,191,877 votes on MyAnimeList.
For the longest time, people have been eagerly anticipating an additional season of the popular anime. But, Madhouse, the studio which produced the popular anime, is still a bit slack about the possibility of renewal. Are we finally seeing it happen? Let’s find out.
What’s happened to date in Death Note
Death Note is the tale of a high school student named Light Yagami, who is the most brilliant student at his school. One day, Light Yagami discovers an unopened notebook called “Death Note” belonging to Ryuk, who is a Shinigami.
The notebook permits the author to kill anyone by writing their names in the notebook. All they require is the name of the person and their face.
Light decides to make the world safer by killing every criminal that he is aware of. He then becomes an infamous anonymous killer, called “Kira.” In the course of his investigation, police and the government become suspicious of him, and they appoint an outstanding detective named L Lawliet to discover his real identity. The war begins between the greatest characters from anime history from this moment onwards.
Death Note continued for thirty-seven episodes, where both the characters do their best using their brains to prevail. Light is a part of L Lawliet’s taskforce to discover Kira to win, by taking the entire world at risk. But, he doesn’t realize that L isn’t the only one who can be responsible for taking him down.
What’s going on with Madhouse?
After finishing the production of Death Note Season 1, Madhouse was a studio for action and was involved in over thirty projects. Their most notable projects included Hunter X Hunter, No Game No Life as well as One-Punch Man season 1.
Their latest project will be The Vampire Dies in No Time. The show will be released in October. In addition, Madhouse is also currently working on Overlord Season 4.
What can we learn concerning Death Note Season 2 so far?
The manga’s chapters ended in the same way as the anime. In February of 2020, the creative team behind Death Note, writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata, released the first 87 pages of a special manga titled Death Note Special One-Shot (2020). The manga was greeted with many favorable reviews from readers and if they are lucky, it could be the basis for Death Note Season 2.
What do fans think of Death Note Season 2?
The fans do want a Season 2, but they aren’t optimistic of it coming out because they’ve not heard any announcements from the official about Season 2 in all these years, and the manga is over too.
Some fans believe that if Death Note Season 2 were released, it would follow the story of Light as a Shinigami. A Shinigami who abuses the power of the Death Note in the human world and causes a human to play as Kira and obey the commands that are given by Light to kill any person they want to take down.
Is there going to be the possibility of a Death Note Season 2?
A decade later, after its release, Death Note is considered the most popular anime ever. Death Note has sold over 30 million copies around the world. However, the question is why isn’t there a Season 2 yet?
The reason for this delay for Season 2 is the absence of original material. Death Note has 108 chapters total across 12 tankobon volumes. This Death Note anime adaptation has already gone through all of the original material, meaning there’s nothing left to make Season 2.
There is some good news. In February of 2020, the Death Note Special One-Shot (2020) was published by the manga’s creators. The fact that a sequel was made available so long after the end of Death Note, it may be an indication that the creators plan to use this as source material to create Death Note Season 2.
When is the release date for Death Note Season 2?
A quarter-century has passed from the moment Death Note Season 1 ended and there are only 3 video games as well as five live-action film series that were released as spin-offs of the show and a manga sequel was also released in 2020. But, as there is no public announcement about the release of a Death Note Season 2, the odds of it happening are low.
What can we expect from the second season of Death Note?
Season 2 of Death Note is currently not yet confirmed, which means there aren’t any plot details to be found. If there is the possibility of a Death Note Season 2 being released, it is likely to be from The manga’s sequel Death Note: Special One-Shot. The sequel features an intriguing plot that is 10 years after the start of Death Note Season 1. If they are lucky, viewers may even be able to meet a Season 1 character ten years after Kira has gone.
Should Season 2 use the source material from Death Note: Special One Shot, then we’ll witness Ryuk’s return to the real world. He will once more drop the Death Note in the human world, which is retrieved by a middle-schooler known as Minoru Tanaka, who is as savvy and insightful in his thinking as Light Yagami. Minoru utilizes his abilities to influence or blackmail certain of the nation’s most influential leaders.
The storyline of the sequel could be a great choice following Season 1. Kira is no longer around, his actions for the entire world were groundbreaking and he was a hit across the globe. While some might be averse to Kira, many people have praised Kira for his work in bringing justice to those in need. It is not surprising that Kira could have been an inspiration to some people, perhaps even generations after his passing.
