Demon Slayer manga/anime is full of emotion due to the morals of some of the most important characters ever made.

Fans are often saddened when one of them dies, which is quite common in the series.

However, among the deaths of certain characters from the show, Tanjiro Kamado’s death was one that shocked the majority of fans.

Tanjiro actually died during the series when they were fighting Muzan Kibutsuji.

Muzan was also able, prior to Tanjiro’s passing, to kill the majority of Hashira members.

However, Tanjiro’s death was the trigger that led to his eventual return following the Final Battle.

What happened when Tanjiro died?

To further explain, we will go back and explain more regarding the final battle which was fought within the Sunrise Countdown Arc only because it’s the most relevant portion of the series that is linked to Tanjiro’s demise.

I will also talk about the consequences of the Final Battle, and Tanjiro’s fate in the aftermath.

Did Tanjiro Die in Demon Slayer?

Note:This article contains spoilers. If you’re in the middle of season 1 of the series, you should take a look at the show first.

Since the Manga was canceled at the end of 2020, if you would like to catch up and know more about what I’m discussing in this post, begin reading the chapters now!

The manga chapter in which Tanjiro’s demise will be revealed when you continue reading.

Tanjiro actually perished in Demon Slayer.

This series saw the confirmation of Tanjiro’s passing during post-timeskip events.

After the final battle, Tanjiro’s death was confirmed by Hashira survivors who examined his pulse.

He also couldn’t breathe.

They ended up fighting one of the greatest villains in anime history.

Then, I’ll not just talk about his demise, but the incredible abilities of Muzan to help you know how he managed to beat Tanjiro and Hashira in their Final Battle.

How Did Tanjiro Die in Demon Slayer?

Tanjiro was killed after sustaining a serious injury while fighting Muzan. He also sustained further injuries while performing Sun Breathing techniques faster.

However, despite the strength of the sun breathing techniques, Muzan was only “irritating” and that’s the reason Muzan was able to defeat him until dawn came around.

The events that led to Tanjiro’s death began in the first part of the Final Battle Arc: The Infinity Castle Arc.

This is where they killed Muzan and ended the rule of demons.

Although the Hashira may be a formidable Demon Slayer, they must work together to stop Muzan.

They were able to fight Muzan multiple times in this fight.

This demonstrated that Hashira is a powerful and collaborative leader.

Tanjiro and the other Hashira tried to join Muzan at every angle, but they were all taken into Infinity Castle where most of them were separated.

After the main battles of Hashira to defeat Muzan’s demons inside the Infinity Castle, the castle was destroyed and the Hashira must have waited until the dawn to eliminate Muzan once and for all.

Muzan Kibutsuji’s Ability

It’s pretty clear that Muzan is the primary reason Tanjiro was killed.

To understand more about the reason Tanjiro lost his life despite defeating Muzan in the final fight, I’ll talk some details about who Muzan is and how incredibly strong the man was.

Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon king, is the progenitor of all demons.

He is therefore the strongest demon.

Furthermore, he is able to use blood to make demons as well as black spiked wires to dislodge his enemies.

Muzan is well-known because of his extraordinary power, which is greater than any other demon.

Despite Tamayo’s attempt to weaken him by using an Anti-Kibutsuji Drug during the Infinity Castle Arc, the demon was strong enough to destroy structures without difficulty and could even perform devastating attacks that cause massive holes.

Even Gyomei, who was the Hashira with the greatest raw strength, had difficulty fighting him.

He is also a Godlike fighter with unstoppable speed and agility.

His strength is also evident in his extraordinary endurance. This is evident by the fact that all the Hashira were used to unite to bring him down, but many of them died in the process.

The Hashira, unlike other demons, is protected against decapitation.

He can also transform into an Infant, which acts as a barrier of flesh and is powerful enough to protect him against Hashira without difficulty.

The shockwave can cause him to change his mouth into a large one, which could lead to an internal scream and possibly even death.

Additionally, his combat-style appearance causes his hair to become longer and whiter, making him look more sinister.

This form defeated Hashira’s majority and caused Tanjiro’s death after their fight.

These feats, and the strength of Hashira, made it seem impossible to fight Muzan without the sun.

Thus, you can claim that the reason for Tanjiro’s demise was the injuries Muzan inflicted.

The Final Battle that caused Tanjiro’s death

All of the Hashira survived the Sunrise Countdown arc.

They still have more than an hour before dawn, and Muzan is fully charged.

A few of them were also injured at the moment. Muzan is now fighting.

The Final Battle’s second phase consisted of a desperate fight. Hashira, Tanjiro, and his friends all fought with every strength they had.

However, they’ve been proved unbeatable against Muzan.

This episode saw him defeat the majority of Hashira members thanks to his extraordinary power, speed, reaction and blood ability.

These are Hashira soldiers who were killed during the battle.

  1. L Kokushibo
  2. l Akaza
  3. L Kaigaku
  4. l Gyokko
  5. l Gyutaro
  6. L Daki
  7. l Hantengu
  8. Doma
  9. Nakime is Nakime’s name

The Hashira was not the only one who died.

To distract Muzan, some of them also sacrificed their lives in the Final Battle.

Despite the deaths, Tanjiro and a few others were able to stop him until dawn. This effectively destroyed the Demon King, making him a good one.

It was a joyful and satisfying moment for them as well as the fans. However, it was shocking to learn that Tanjiro eventually succumbed to his injuries following defeating Muzan.

Tanjiro was severely injured during the fight.

The soldier broke many bones and lost his arm in the process. He also suffered severe head injuries.

The poison he received from Muzan was likely to have been another cause of his death.

The poison made Muzan blind and weak, even after Muzan was defeated.

Tanjiro’s demise was confirmed even by Kakushi who informed Giyu with tears that Tanjiro is no longer breathing and has no pulse.

Tanjiro seems to be lying on the ground, but isn’t moving at all and is holding his blade with only one arm.

But there’s more in the scene than just that!

Tanjiro’s Death’s Aftermath and…

The aftereffects of Tanjiro’s death was the moment that brought Tanjiro back.

You got it!

After his death, the main character came back to life.

This time, Muzan was a demon and went through the exact same thing as Nezuko.

The reason is that Muzan was defeated and proved he couldn’t be defeated. He then used his consciousness once more to restore Tanjiro.

It was the result that he became Tanjiro (the current Demon King).

He was transformed into a demon and returned to life.

What’s more concerning about the demon version is that it was immune to sunlight.

But, Tanjiro’s determination can stop him in committing murder of his beloved sister as well as ward off becoming enticed by Muzan in his unconscious.

Tanjiro’s sister is the reason he tried to protect her throughout the series.

Tanjiro lost his skills and is now blind because of the poison he was given by Muzan.

But, Tanjiro appears to be happy with the situation because there’s no need to use the power of a Demon Slayer anymore as all the demons have been eliminated.

Tanjiro was then able to return his former life, but he was killed during the final battle.

If not for Muzan’s attempts to demonize Tanjiro and his family, he could have died already due to extreme exhaustion as well as poison and injuries.

A skipping took place at the end and was revealed to be the grandchildren of Tanjiro.

The technical aspect of the story was Tanjiro’s passing. He was getting older and his family became more important.

This means that Tanjiro was the victim of two stories about his demise.

Both were the result of his fight against Muzan, while the other was peaceful because of his age.

Which episode is Tanjiro’s Death?

The anime series Demon Slayer is currently in its infancy.

Season 2 is currently in development, and it is unknown when the final release date will be.

The highly successful anime movie Mugen Train has been released back in 2020.

It is not yet clear that season 2 will be the last episode of the anime or if they’ll release the Final Battle Arc as a film similar to Mugen Train.

Since the manga has already ended, I’ll go over the chapters in which Tanjiro’s death was depicted.

Tanjiro’s death occurred following the fight against Muzan at the end of Chapter 200.

His age was the reason for his death. The details were not made public.

It was discovered that at Chapter 204’s conclusion, a time-skip was performed where a present day Japan was shown.

It showed the children of the Kamado families attending modern school, while one of them bears a strange resemblance to Tanjiro in Chapter 205.

This means that Tanjiro could raise a family up until his death, possibly due to his old age.

We must all keep our fingers crossed that the anime counterpart will be released.
