Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin – Is Karen Dead Or Alive – Is She Kelly?
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin fans are convinced that Kelly is involved in the mysterious deaths, and it actually makes sense.
You haven’t started Pretty Little Liars on HBO Max yet? What are you doing? The new Pretty Little Liars spin-off follows five teenage girls who are brought together when they are each terrorized by an anonymous villain named “A”. Unbeknownst to them, their mothers were also involved in a mystery scandal 20 years ago.
A. murders Karen, Millwood High’s queen bee and mean girl, in episode 2. Faran, however, believes it wasn’t Karen that died but instead her identical twin, Kelly. Faran believes Karen is pretending she is Kelly. Both twins of the Beasley family are played by Hereditary actress and Pretty Little Liars superfan Mallory Bechtel.
Now, Original Sin viewers have come up with a brand new theory involving both Kelly and Karen, and it will blow your mind.
Who murdered Karen in ‘Pretty Little Liars – Original Sin’?
Imogen, who is titled “Chapter Two, The Spirit Queen”, steps on stage towards the end of the second episode. Principal Clanton (Robert Stanton) crowns Imogen as spirit queen. Mouse (Malia Pyles), as everyone celebrates, points out that Karen was hiding in the roof. She and the other little liars make every effort to get Imogen’s attention quickly.
Imogen turns her head to see Karen smiling at Imogen alongside the bucket with red paint. Karen cannot follow through on her evil plan until “A” sneaks up behind Karen. They fight and then “A” wins and throws Karen overboard.
Karen was thus killed by “A”… or was she?
Is Kelly really Karen or not? Big Theory
In the world of Pretty Little Liars, you should never trust a set of twins. This principle continues to be applied to the latest spin-off series, Pretty Little Liars.
But, just as creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa promised, this slasher-loving tale of a girl gang targeted by a mystery assailant is proving a little more bloodthirsty than normal – so much so, that one of the reigning “b****” twins of Millwood’s high school was offed by the end of the second episode in a killer twist to the already bloodythirsty Carrie Prom homage.
A pregnant Imogen Adams (Bailee Madison) celebrates her title of Spirit Week queen at the dance. She is shocked and horrified to see her frenemy Karen, Mallory Bechtel, fight with someone in the rafters before she is pushed to her death.
Karen wasn’t there for any good reason. Kelly, her twin sister, was able to get Karen ready to paint her ex-friend in red paint, Carrie. Only someone had already been there to meet her. Karen is the first victim of this Leatherface-inspiring mystery person.
Only, viewers have been asking themselves: Was it Karen up there or Kelly?
The same actress plays the girls. They have a long-standing tradition of pretending to be one another. Kelly, dressed up as her sister, was caught on camera pretending to be Kelly earlier in the episode. Kelly confessed to the many horrible acts that led to all of the leading ladies ending up in detention.
The pair are eerily alike in almost every way – the perfect identical twins (like we said, same actress) who would do whatever they can in order to get a foot up in high school and the town.
Karen became bitter when Faran won the role of Black Swan in the school ballet, arguing essentially it was because Faran was Black – she’s that kind of girl. She also shunned her former bestie Imogen because she believed her boyfriend was superior to her when they were caught on camera kissing… Kelly saw the moment before relaying it to her fuming sister.
Mallory stated in several outlets that her dual roles are not easily distinguished.
“It really helps that Karen was always showing more skin – you just carry yourself a little differently because of that. Karen was always in a heel, and Kelly always wore flat shoes, so she hunched a little more,” Bechtel told W Magazine.
Kelly continues the tradition of Kelly furrowing her brow. Karen has her mouth open when she’s listening; Kelly keeps her mouth closed. My eye makeup is always slightly different.”
She later explained that “the simplified version of it for me is that I think Karen is motivated to be the best at all things.” Teen Vogue.
“Kelly is the peacekeeper in the family. Karen’s happiness is her dad’s. Kelly will do whatever it takes to keep Karen happy. That’s the easy way.”
Kelly seems to have developed a bitter hatred for Karen despite their obvious bond. Their home shows that their father idolizes Karen to the point where he totally overlooks their second child. Their mother is also very distant from the entire situation, especially after Karen’s tragic death.

So Kelly’s behavior following her sister’s very public demise has been stoic to say the least – in fact it’s downright odd. She’s suddenly more interested in ballet, and she’s having s** with her dead sister’s boyfriend during house parties.
On the night of the Spirit dance, Imogen went to speak to Karen, only to be told it was actually Kelly – even scolded for confusing the twins. Kelly’s mother is also a Karen. While we all know she has mental-health problems, it’s not surprising that she wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between Kelly and her daughters.
Karen decided to assume the role of her older sister. She was, according to family members, the favorite. This popularity queen would settle for the second position. Perhaps it is out of guilt at having her sister die. Maybe it is a morbid curiosity as to how others would react to her passing, and the switch allowing her access to live video.

Faran is so certain that the twins are switching that she confronts Kelly/Karen at the Halloween party. (In frankly the most savage way – you might be wrong, girl, and if you are you’ll have a hell of a lot of apologizing to do because the way you spoke to Kelly/Karen was ridiculously harsh.)
Kelly insists she is Kelly, calling Faran psychotic and storming off. Kelly or Karen, we don’t entirely blame her – Faran’s lack of explanation sounded tantamount to a death threat and we would have been out of there.
Faran was not without her points. After razorblades were shoved in her shoes, Karen had scars on her feet – the same scars Kelly seemed to have on hers. Kelly was not right to be fighting for the same boy or pursuing popularity, but Karen is. Even picking up the words and dismissals of her sister, she was also exhibiting her abrupt behavior.

We’re surely going to find out the truth sooner rather than later – it certainly seems like a possible theory right now. It’s all about the big “why?” That is a bit cloudy.
This twist almost seems obvious for a show that loves to defy expectations. But is that really what they want us to think?
At the halfway mark, Kelly/Karen’s identity is officially as much a mystery as ‘A’… We cannot wait to see what happens.
Pretty Little Liars The show continues weekly on HBO Max in America, while a UK release is still to be confirmed.
