The much-awaited chapter 170 of One Punch Man has finally been released after a short delay owing to the big announcement that was made early on. Yusuke Murata stated that this chapter would be the end of the story. Monsters Association arc in this series.
While this chapter does not have much action it is a great conclusion to the story. The chapter is also focused on Garou, as in previous chapters. As we saw in the previous chapter, Garou fled the scene. The heroes were quite worried. Let’s look at the conclusion of this chapter.

One Punch Man Chapter 169: End of Monster Association & Garou Arc
The chapter opens with another beautiful and colorful page. The story begins from Garou’s POV after getting knocked out by Saitama. He was stunned at how powerful the punch held. Although he doesn’t know that the future Saitama punched him, he thinks the punch came form an unknown source. He even compares the punch to being way beyond the current Saitama’s power levels. This is, of course, because he doesn’t remember the future timeline.
Garou is now defeated. The other heroes join forces to defeat him. They hold him responsible for all the destruction he has caused. Meanwhile, Saitama and Genos discuss the core that he has been holding on to. They discuss the core because they are unsure of the future timeline.
Genos attaches his sub connector to the core in order to activate it. Once he does this, all of the future timeline events flood into his brain. Genos is now the only one to remember the future timeline, and his sensei’s power.
Genos attempts to explain everything to Saitama. But as usual, everything just bounces off his head. Nevertheless, Genos smiles to himself that he is the only one who knows of Saitama’s might. Garou and even Saitama don’t remember any of it. Genos assures him that he made it in the time he needed, just as one would expect from an authentic hero.
The focus now shifts to Tareo passed-out. He raises his head to see a faded image of Garou looking fondly at him, and tells him to get up. Tareo realizes it’s just his brain playing tricks. Tareo hears a strange chattering from the action and rushes there.
Many things took place before Tareo arrives on the scene. Garou is being executed by the heroes. They fight him, but Garou isn’t fighting back at all. Even if he doesn’t remember anything, he accepts his defeat as he mocks the heroes. He describes their punches as weak and ineffective.
Sweet Mask, on the other hand, appears and declares that Garou must go without negotiation. Metal Bat and Saitama are not in agreement. Flashy Flash jumps in to claim that Garou was defeated when a naked man appeared from thin air. It is suspected to be Blast, so everyone starts to suspect it. It is not certain, however.
Zombieman then cuts them off, saying that he needs to ask something important to Garou. He asks him if his strength & powers are the results of solely his Monsterification OR if another source of power was merely using him as a catalyst. Surprisingly Garou denies that and claims it was all him. He mocks Garou for asking such a stupid question. He demands that he hurry up and end his life.
This is an opportunity. Sweet Mask jumps in to punch Garou. Tareo grabs Garou’s left leg and defends him. He shouts at everyone for being mean to his uncle, even if they’re heroes. He also tells them about how Garou saved him many times when no one else could. Sweet Mask tries convincing Tareo that he’s just naive.
This makes King realize that Garou is the “uncle” that Tareo has been talking about all this time. He activates his King Engine for Maximum Output to stop Garou from being attacked by others. He tells them all that a child is at the scene so they must behave.
Bang finally steps in and declares that he will not allow Garou to throw his life away so easily. He must pay for the damage he caused. Saitama too appreciates King’s and Genos’s actions to save them when they were captured. He uses this occasion to express his sincere gratitude. Garou smiles so faintly that nobody can see his face, but says everyone is making Garou sick.
Garou suddenly jumps up and Metal Knight then drills his path out of the ground. He declares that the danger is not over, and that Radiation Poisoning continues to affect the earth. In the meantime, an army or drones/robots is flying in the sky. He urges everyone to visit his lab for tests and decontamination procedures.
In hindsight, Saitama and Genos discuss what’s next for them. Saitama states that he will first take Genos to Dr. Kuseno because he needs to fix himself.
After everything is finished, the chapter comes to an end.

Garou apologizes to his “dine and dash” incident
In chapter 87 of the book, you can go back a long way. One Punch ManGarou had eaten at a restaurant but managed to get away without paying. But now, it seems like Garou is done with his evil ways, as he was shown apologizing at the police station for the incident. Bang was with him as well, and both men walked away after apologizing.
Bang was glad to see Garou back and spoke about how Garou needed him to be the leader, since he was his teacher. Bang planned to take Garou to all the victims hurt because of his “hero hunting.”
Fans were given information by the next panel about Garou’s escape. He was found at the secret training grounds Bang showed him as a student.
Garou put on a show and said to Bang that he was returning to Bang because no other hero could match Bang’s fighting ability. He asked his former master to continue sparring. Garou thought back to the time Bang scored a major hit in Garou’s monsterization.
Garou inspires Tareo
Tareo and Garou have met a couple times. Garou was a role model for Tareo, helping him overcome obstacles and not giving up when he was bullied. His friends tried to be heroes but they only wanted to kick Tareo.
Tareo, however, got up this time and called himself GarouMan, the hero. He promised them that he would rise again no matter how many times they kicked his feet. Little Tareo went on to call them “fake heroes”. Waganma was a rich child who called Tareo home to have video games.
When Tareo’s “friends” realized that the two were friends, they expressed interest in tagging along. Instead of harboring grudges, Tareo asked Waganma to invite his friends. They went home.
Garou and Bang have a conversation
The One Punch Man Hero Hunter requested Bang to arrange for fights with some of the best heroes to awaken without the whole monsterization process. Garou was reassured by Bang that he was stronger after Metal Knight had done some maintenance.
The scene then transitioned into the Heroes Association Headquarters, where Sitch was conversing with Sekingar. Sitch was informed by Sekingar of Bang’s resignation and that Bang would be Garou’s guardian. Bang plans on introducing Garou to the Heroes Association at some point.
Sekingar expressed an interest in Garou. Sitch wondered about any backlash he might experience from other heroes. The scene cuts back to Garou & Bang, where they are engaging in casual conversation. Bang asked Garou if Garou was interested in any girls, and Garou replied. He was fond of Kiiro the actress who played Gau Yellow. After all the pain and suffering they endured, Garou was able to walk with Bang down the street.
The chapter concluded with a panel in which the One Punch Man protagonist was alongside Genos, and it looked like an unknown person was spying on the two characters.
Expected Chapter 171 of One Punch Man Release Date
The release date of the next chapter isn’t quite clear yet. After working on this arc for so many hours, it’s likely that Murata or ONE will be taking a break. Fans are speculating that the next release will be on. August 25, 2022. The chapter may also be published before the date.
