Super Crooks Season 1 Review

Supercrooks is a world full of people with superpowers. Superheroes are those who choose to protect the innocent and uphold the law. Supervillains are those who pursue more sinister goals. However, society isn’t always so clear-cut. There are many evil heroes and noble villains. Johnny dreamed of being a superhero as a child. He discovered his superpower, which is the ability to generate and manipulate electricity. However, fate had other plans. Johnny became a criminal after he caused a major disaster in his small town, leaving many people seriously injured.
Johnny is released from prison and reunites with Kasey. Johnny’s independence is questioned by his old friends who coax him into a burglary job. He promises Kasey that after he is released from jail, he won’t get involved in petty theft. But he does. As you can see, Johnny and his friends are faced with difficulties when Praetorian, a superhero, appears in their path. Praetorian, one of the Union of Justice’s young members, has more than 200 superpowers that he can use at will. Praetorian isn’t sure which power will be next.

Kasey, a psychic who can manipulate the mind of the superhero, arrives just in time to save Johnny and his friends. She lets him go with her boyfriend and the rest of the group. Later, she and Johnny have a long conversation in which she explains to him that they cannot continue committing petty criminal acts. They must wait for a score that will set them up for success to become supervillains.
That’s exactly what Carmine and Heat offer them. The Union of Justice headquarters is then raided by a team that aims to take the helmet of Count Orlok, a supervillain who has been a friend of Carmine’s. It includes Johnny, Carmine, Kasey, Josh or the Ghost who can pass through solid matter; Sammy, Roddy Diesel who have semi-indestructible abilities; Forecast who can control weather conditions; and TK MaCabe who has telekinesis capabilities.
They execute the first part, which is to release McCabe before he’s taken to a supermax jail. They distract the attention of the Utopian’s family by making it appear that a long-dead necromancer enemy of Utopian has been resurrected far away from Union of Justice headquarters, and is wreaking havoc with his zombie army. It works and Johnny, Kasey and other New Yorkers gain access to the impressive target.

To their horror and surprise, Praetorian is still there. Even though Josh is able to teleport them all using Orlok’s helmet, Praetorian, and Christopher Matts, his secret boss, catch up to them. Matts kills Orlok who was the sponsor of the whole operation and had promised Johnny and the rest $50 million in exchange for his helmet being returned. Even though Matts and Praetorian did not kill them, Johnny, Kasey and the rest realized that they were back where they started.
Five years later, the last four episodes were filmed. The team returns to Johnny’s direction after Carmine, Matts’ former protege, gets in trouble at a casino. They are looking for a casino that Matts owns, as well as a disgraced Praetorian. The season finale shows Kasey what she can do. Praetorian finally gets his due. Johnny comes up with a way for Matt to be diverted.

Super Crooks Season 1: Is the Japan Heist A Success?

Yes, the heist was a success. Most of the team decides to live normal lives after the terrible failure of the first attempt. Johnny and Carmine are the exceptions. The former is sent to prison while the latter continues to commit minor offenses until his luck runs out when the man with the ability to foresee attempts to cheat at a casino. Salamander, the casino owner, threatens Carmine with death if he doesn’t pay $100 million within one month.
Carmine, desperate, reaches out and helps Johnny and Kasey. They have been unable to reconcile over Johnny’s lies to her and ended up in jail. They eventually agree to help. Johnny is now in charge and targets Matts. Matts has retired from his villainous activities and Johnny set up a casino island in Japan. Praetorian is now Matts’ head security officer.

Johnny threatens Gladiator with the revelation that he is gay, and he blackmails him into joining the team. Matts, also known by the Bastard, was once the most evil villain in the world. His ability to control blood and carry out indiscriminate murders earned him a bad reputation. Matts also created the Network, which is a criminal organization meant to play the same role as the Union of Justice for the heroes. It was, however, corrupted to the core and cared little about society’s influence.
Matts went after Johnny and Carmine following the Union of Justice headquarters heist. This was primarily because they weren’t part of the Union. Matts retired from the Network and was taken over by Salamander.

Yes, the Japan heist was a success. Johnny and the rest extort $800 million from Matts. Gladiator defeats Praetorian in a clever case of irony. Praetorian does not die but he is possibly brain-damaged. Kasey enchants Matts using her psychic abilities.
The costumes of the team members are identical to Salamander’s crew’s, which diverts Matts’ anger towards his former student. Matts kills Salamander and all of his crew.
Are Johnny and Kasey Ever Together?
Yes, Johnny and Kasey do end up together. Johnny and Kasey marry after the Union of Justice headquarters Heist doesn’t go as they had hoped. Johnny’s old friends show up the night before his wedding and he ends the night in prison. Kasey refuses to go with him when he returns. They reconcile during the heist, and they get engaged towards the end of the season.
