Sweet Tooth Season 1 Review & Ending Explained

Sweet Tooth Season 1 is set in America in the near future when a deadly viral outbreak has killed most of humanity. Children with distinctive animalistic features were born right around the time the outbreak started. These hybrids are now known as “hybrids”.
They are sometimes viewed as the result of an unintended mutation in the human genome. Others see them as nature’s revenge on humanity, and the hybrids as the next step of human evolution.
Gus (Christian Convery) is a half-human, half-deer boy who inspires hope. He embarks on an incredible adventure across America after his father dies. This is all you need to know about the “Sweet Tooth” season 1 finale. SPOILERS ALERT.
Plot of Sweet Tooth Season 1

Ten years ago, society was wiped out by a virus known as the Sick. This caused the collapse of most of the world’s population. It also led to the mysterious appearance of hybrid babies, which are part human and part animal.
Many humans fear hybrids and hunt them, not knowing if they are the cause or the result of the virus. Gus, a half deer hybrid, lives alone in the wilderness with his dad. Gus’s dad dies at nine years old.
Gus finds a box that his father had buried beneath a tree. It contains what Gus believes to be a photograph of Gus’ mother with the word “Colorado.”

Gus starts a fire one year after the death of his father. He then decides to abandon his house and go into the wilderness to search for his mother. Gus is then located by nearby hunters who attempt to kill him for sport. The hunters become visibly shocked when Gus speaks.
Tommy Jepperd, “Big Man”, an intrepid traveler, kills the hunters. Gus follows him. Gus insists that Jepperd will take him to Colorado to locate his mother. Jepperd refuses to comply, but he eventually protects Gus, who will not leave him alone.
The story also follows Dr. Aditya and his wife as they try to find a cure to the Sick. Aimee, an ex-therapist, attempts to protect her sanctuary for hybrids which is known as “The Preserve”.
Sweet Tooth Season 1 Review

Gus lives far away from the world in a famine and grows up with his Pubba (Will Forte), at Yellowstone National Park. Pubba created a safe haven for them both and warned Gus not to venture beyond that. As is so often the case with children, curiosity cannot be contained.
Gus discovers about Tom Sawyer, despite Pubba’s warnings that all of the world is engulfed in fire. He wants to go on a similar adventure. Pubba shows Gus a photo of Birdie, a woman he mistakenly believes to be his mother.
Their peaceful existence is disrupted by the arrival of another person. Pubba is then infected by the virus. Two poachers nearly capture Gus after he is killed. This is when Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), arrives, kills the poachers, and saves Gus. Jepperd is eventually chosen by the young boy to travel with him, hoping to find Birdie in Colorado.
They meet a young radical group of supporters and their mysterious leader, Bear (Stefania L. Owen). Gus and Jepperd staying with them causes a mutiny that forces Bear to travel with them.
Aimee (Dania RAMirez), a former therapist, raises a half-human and half-pig girl at the Essex County Zoo named Wendy (Naledi Murray). They eventually make the zoo a sanctuary for hybrids. Adeel Akhtar (Dr. Aditya Singh) desperately attempts to save Rani (Aliza Vallani), his wife who is suffering from the disease.
Aditya, who has taken over research from Dr. Bell (Sarah Peirse), discovers that the key ingredient to the treatment is the fruit of hybrid children.

Aditya initially is horrified at the idea and attempts to make the medicine more humane. He fails miserably. Aditya realizes that his wife is suffering and makes the difficult decision to choose love over his morality or faith.
The disease, also called “the Sick” and “The Great Crumble,” nearly ended human civilization as we know it. The military seems to be extinct and the government appears to have fallen. A brutal militia called Last Men has taken their place.
The militia is led by General Abbot (Neil Sandilands), who believes there are only two options to deal with hybrids. Rani and Aditya are saved by Rani’s murderous neighbors who wanted to kill them after Rani was revealed

. Gus discovers the truth about his birth, and runs away in the penultimate episode. Meanwhile, Last Men seize Wendy and other hybrid children and take control of the zoo.
Rani and Aditya arrive at the Zoo, where Aditya will be conducting his experiments. Jepperd manages to calm Gus down, but he learns that Gus has called the Preserve from the wrecked airplane he found.
Abbot and his men quickly arrive at the scene and shoot Jepperd. They capture Gus and then take him to the temporary zoo. Aimee arrives later and brings Jepperd along, thinking they can both rescue their children. (worldanimalfoundation.org)
Sweet Tooth Season 1 ending explained: Who Is Sweet Tooth? How was he created?
Jepperd is the one who gave Gus the nickname “Sweet Tooth”, after his love of sweet things. Pubba informed Gus that his mother was in Colorado, so Gus wants to go there. Jepperd and Bear know there’s a good chance that the woman they are looking for is deceased, but they can’t bear to tell Gus that.
They finally arrive at the place Birdie lived previously. Judy, Birdie’s best friend, is currently the current occupant of the house. The group discovers shocking truths about Gus’s origins with her assistance.
Gus’ ability to talk and his age have always intrigued anyone who has ever met him. He is more mature than the rest of the hybrids and can communicate his thoughts verbally. Birdie at Fort Smith Labs created him artificially.
He is most likely the first hybrid to be born in the world. His name stands for Genetic Unit Series 1. His name is an acronym for Genetic Unit Series 1. The “1” in his name likely means that he was supposed to be the original of his kind.
After her research was completed, she gave the boy to Richard, Fort Smith’s janitor, and became her date that night. Richard reluctantly took the boy to Yellowstone, where he became his Pubba.
Are the Hybrids and the Virus connected?
They are indeed connected. Judy claims Birdie said to Judy that hybrids and H5G9 are two sides of one coin. Even if they didn’t cause the disease to develop, the existence of hybrids is linked to it. Birdie’s research in Alaska was a part of this whole thing. According to Dr. Singh, the original comic book series was written by Jeff Lemire.
He posits that researchers discovered the remains of an ancient hybrid species (he calls them gods) beneath the Alaskan ice and used one of their DNAs to create Gus. It is likely that the H5G9 strain was brought along with the remains. This spread around the world as a reckoning for humanity.
What will happen to Gus?
Gus and Wendy are taken prisoner at Abbot’s and Aditya’s facility. Aditya, a devout Hindu who keeps a statue of Ganesh the elephant-headed god at his home has struggled for years with the idea of what to do to save his wife.
He seems to be able to accept his reality by the time he arrives at the facility. After meeting Gus, his faith seems renewed. Johnny asks him about Saraswathi, the goddess of learning.
Aitareya Upanishad says that she once appeared as a red deer. This is the dichotomy of his faith and his love for his wife, which will likely continue to influence his character in the future seasons.
Aditya saves Gus in the finale because he views the boy as an extension of his concept of divinity. Wendy might also be spared due to her ability to speak. However, that doesn’t mean experimentation will stop.
Aditya and Abbot are well aware of the possibility of another round. They are aware that they must find a permanent cure for the disease before it comes. Other children are in the facility and will be used to help. It is likely that this will continue until a cure can be found or Jepperd, Aimee save their children.
Where is Birdie Now?
Bear, whose real identity is Becky, manages to fix a satellite phone that she connects to Birdie. The older woman, who is probably in Alaska due to her snowy surroundings appears to be in Alaska.
Birdie, who had parted ways from Richard and Gus, was seen returning to the lab to complete her research. Judy was told by Birdie that she would be looking for Gus. However, it seems that she has returned to Alaska to finish her research. Bear might tell her that Gus is back in Colorado to find her.
Are Wendy and Bear Related

Yes, Wendy is related to Bear. Bear’s foster parents are Wendy’s biological daughter. Wendy is Wendy. She initially claimed that First Men had killed her parents. However, Judy later learned that the disease caused their deaths.
The authorities took Wendy away. Aimee discovered her in a plastic container at the Essex County Zoo. Bear was later rescued by Tiger and formed the radical rescue group.
Is Sweet Tooth a Reference to COVID 19

The producers realized that a comparison with real-life COVID situations was inevitable and chose to embrace it fully. Multiple conversations are had about PPEs, masks, and social distance. It seems that the horrors we saw in certain countries’ hospitals and on the streets are replicated in this film.
“Sweet Tooth” isn’t the first film to reference COVID. It won’t be the last. With a little humor, the show tackles the grim situation. This could have turned out to be a disaster if it was handled by a less experienced showrunner. Jim Mickle adds an extra layer to the story with his unique brand of humor.
