Season 2 Episode 4 of The Devil is a Part-Timer
Maou talks to Gabriel about his plans to rescue Alas Ramus, no matter the price. He recalls what Suzune had said to him about the Yesod Sephira – the legendary tree of life. The myth states that the plant is constantly creating the world and is responsible for establishing the necessary balance to sustain life. It appears, according to Gabriel’s words, that the components of the world that govern the Yesod are in danger.
Suzune points out, however, that there is no evidence to support the Tree of Life’s ability to sustain human life. She doubts the myth and believes that Alas Ramus staying with Maou or Emi will have no consequences. When Maou is alone with Emi, he confesses that he will happily put his life on the line if that can ensure Alas Ramus’ safety. Emi is surprised since she has never seen Satan as the kind of person who will put himself in harm’s way. Maou assures Emi that her father isn’t unusual in his willingness to sacrifice for her.
Alas Ramus later requests Emi and Maou to go to bed with her. They both feel awkward, but they both agree to it. Emi is stubborn. Maou tells Emi a story about an angel who saved a man to get her to sleep. Emi soon realizes that Maou is telling a fictionalized version of his story. After Alas Ramus falls asleep, Emi asks Maou about the fate of the man once he becomes king. Satan initially declined to comment, but then he just pointed out that he had become greedy. Gabriel is there next to them the morning they wake up.
Maou knows that they can’t win a fight against him, so he pleads with him not to take Alas Ramus. Gabriel refuses to listen and decides to kill Satan immediately. Alas Ramus sees him struggle to breathe and takes action, claiming that Malkut said that he is just another liar. He attacks her without remorse. When Maou is free, Suzune asks him to bring him closer to the place where Alas Ramus and Emi are fighting Gabriel. When he tries helping them, he loses his grip and plummets to the ground.
The Devil is a Part Timer Season 2 Episode 4: What Lesson Can Emi Teach Satan
When Satan begins to plummet towards the ground at a very high speed, Emi can’t help but expect the worst consequence. Even though he is her sworn enemy, it is clear that Emi has begun to care about his well-being now. Alas Ramus manages to stop Maou, saving his life as he stands just inches from the ground. Emi immediately decides that she will use all of her powers. Gabriel, however, is too powerful to be stopped by even this.
Unknown to all, he agrees that Alas Ramus will be left alone under the condition Emi will not allow Satan to have his way and place the human world at risk. Gabriel returns and Emi agrees to the request. Everyone is misled into believing that Gabriel took Alas Ramus with him, as no one saw Emi transform her and take out her new sword. Alas Ramus has now merged with her broken sword, becoming one with it. She can transform back to her usual self and become the blade of Emi’s sword whenever she wants. Since Maou thinks he failed to stop Gabriel from taking Alas Ramus, he is depressed and could barely work at MgRonald’s.
Emi, Chiho, and Chiho meet up at a restaurant to tell the truth. They later return to Satan’s apartment and tell him the good news that Alas Ramus is still with them. Maou is happy but he acts mean to conceal the fact that he feels emotional after his meeting with his daughter. Emi tells Chiho she wanted Satan to feel the pain of losing someone special because he had never been held accountable for past actions. Maou’s ambitious conquest to rule the world came at a huge cost and hurt a lot of innocent people, so making him feel the same pain that many had gone through because of him was something she wanted him to feel.
