Vatican Girl: The Disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi Before Season 2

Before tackling it, we’ll talk a bit about the previous season.
Vatican Girl Season 1 Recap And Ending Explained
The latest Netflix documentary Vatican Girl: The Disappearance and Retribution of Emanuela Orlandi was released on October 20, 2022. The true-life story of the “only missing citizen in Vatican” (since June 1983), draws us into a tense conspiracy that has many leads, but most have ended in a dead end or pointed to the Vatican as an untrustworthy institution.
The European nation is synonymous with The Holy See. It has the Roman Catholic Church, its foundational symbol, and the Pope as the head of state. Although the Orlandi family served several Popes throughout their history, the story of Emanuela disappeared mysteriously, and the Orlandi story now “sounds like Dan Brown,” according to media observations over the years.
The series opens by recounting the circumstances that led to Emanuela Orlandi setting out for her flute lesson at her school at the Vatican’s periphery. Pietro Orlandi, her brother, had been urging her to go with her as she was late. However, she ended up arriving on her own. This is something her brother regrets as it is mentioned in the series. She called her family later that night to inform them about a man who approached her to join Avon Cosmetics. Her sister waited for her at a rendezvous point, from which they were supposed to return home together. Orlandi didn’t turn up, setting off a mystery that hasn’t been solved in 37 years.
Over the years, several leads emerged at irregular times, making it impossible to close the case completely. Her family continues to search for her, as her brother and lead journalist relay the news of endless conspiracies that ultimately got roped into her case over the four episodes.
Vatican Girl: The Ending of Emanuela Orlandi’s Disappearance

Although the series was inevitable, the search for that 15-year-old girl hasn’t stopped over the years. The last episode reveals more about a country and its corrupt ways. This mystery seems to be weighing down.
The final revelation, which was saved for the end of the series, is the first of its kind. It changes the way we see the Vatican center and the respect it commands from its citizens all these years. Common people are seen as mere pawns in power and authority’s hands. Orlandi’s friend at the time reveals a shocking and nauseating secret that may have contributed to Emanuela’s removal.
During the investigation, there were many instances of cross-border ties as well as the involvement in terrorist plots by the KGB and mafia. Even Andrea Purgatori, the lead journalist on the case, had already concluded that the entire investigation was a result of events occurring within the Vatican’s borders. This led to the lack of cooperation and negligence of authorities, which also led to them not being present during the documentary.
Orlandi’s friend chose to keep her identity secret to make it easy, but she revealed that Emanuela reached out to her almost one week before her disappearance to share with her about an affliction that had occurred during one of her walks through the Vatican Garden. According to her, Orlandi was harassed by someone powerful and closely associated with the Pope.

A confidential dossier that had been taken from the Vatican after a break-in contained secret information about Emanuela being held hostage in London. This hostel for young girls was a shared source with Vatican origins. Her remains were returned to her home without any permission. Many still believe that the shocking act was true, despite the fact that the details contained in the dossier are unbelievable. It is possible that Vatican officials knew about Emanuela’s fate because Pope Paul II, who had spoken her name in one of his sermons years ago, said that it was an abrupt and unprompted message. Pope Francis assumed control years later, and he was also insistent about the firm statement he made with Emanuela’s brother. He claimed persistently that she was now at heaven, despite his desire to continue looking for her. Sabrina Minardi
Because of Enrico De Pedis, Banda Della Magliana’s boss and Sabrina Minardi’s involvement in the matter, the mafia ties cannot be disregarded. Emanuela, who was also present during the documentary, described her interactions with Sabrina Minardi, her girlfriend at the time, when she learned that her boyfriend had been involved in her kidnapping. She wanted her to become his accomplice. When questioned about the situation he simply stated that it was all a game for power and money that led them to this point. Pedis served as a mediator in the crime, and Emanuela was ultimately taken by a man who dressed as a priest according to Minardi’s confession.
Even after a long period of time, whistleblower facts continued to be reported to authorities. This reactivated the case that had been serving cold leads for many years. The case remains alive after three decades. Unfortunately, due to the Vatican’s silence, it will never be closed. The case is now in the hands of dusty files because many officials have already died. Emanuela’s relatives have been persistently appealing to them to speak out, but to no avail. This series is an appeal to the Vatican to share its knowledge and end this case for good. Emanuela Orlandi’s true story is far from known. There’s no way to confirm if she’s alive or dead, but her family believes that one day she will be found.

Vatican Girl: Emanuela Orlandi’s Disappearance Season 2 Storyline

According to the show, Orlandi’s family described Vatican City as more than a country. Some elements and discussions make the story feel more like something that Dan Brown wrote than it is from reality.
Emanuela Orlandi disappeared in Italy. It was one of the most famous and unsolved mysteries. Emanuela Orlandi was returning from flute class when the incident occurred. There were also unconfirmed sightings in Vatican City. The show does not attempt to solve the mystery, but merely tells the story to anyone who has never heard of Emanuela.
There have been many theories about Emanuela’s disappearance over the years. These include the Orlandi–Agca connection theory and organized crime theory. It is possible that the first season did not cover all of what Emanuela’s relatives experienced over the years after her disappearance. We might learn new things if the makers confirm that there will be a second season.
These shows feature real-life stories, which is the best part. We get to see the whole story as audiences. Sometimes they feature cases and individuals that we have not heard of before, despite having been extensively covered in the media. Emanuela’s disappearance was one example. This show is not meant to be a biography. Instead, it tries to reveal theories that could lead to a conclusion or a possible explanation for Emanuela’s disappearance.
We may not see the second season of Season 1 for a while as it has only been a few days. The makers may wait to renew the miniseries as it has been marketed. We will have to wait until the developers confirm our suspicions.
Review Before To Watch Vatican Girl Season 2

Emanuela Orlandi, a Vatican teenager, mysteriously vanished while returning from a flute lesson on the 22nd of June 1983. The country covers 0.2 miles and has high walls around its perimeter. Gates are locked after dark. This led to the growing mystery.
After the speech, the Pope made a large speech in St Peter’s Square, suggesting that he knew Emanuela had been kidnapped (given his language). A strange American phone with an Italian accent confessed to having Emanuela held captive. The family was given a deadline of 20 July to have their daughter back. They had to arrange the release of Ali Agca (a far-right Turkish terrorist who attempted to kill the Pope), in order to accomplish this.
Ali is released after the deadline but the mystery remains unsolved. Now, fast forward to 2022. Netflix’s true-crime team is back with another mystery. Similar to the Madeline McCann mystery that gripped the globe, Emanuela’s disappearance is a case fraught with mystery and finger-pointing, but ultimately without definitive answers.

You’ll be just as captivated by Netflix’s The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann as you were by Netflix’s The Disappearance. Like that docu-series there are no clear answers. Instead, we explore a variety of rabbit holes. Each one lends itself to many different theories, some more plausible than others.
For example, the second episode explores a possible lead in Luxembourg. But that leads nowhere. Instead, the third episode focuses on the story of a man who claims to have kidnapped Emanuela ten years after the original incident. The fourth and final episode examines the aftermath of “Vatileaks”.
Each chapter is well-written and will keep you interested in the journey down the rabbit hole. This series has a very stylish feel. Each episode is almost an hour long, so there is a lot of padding to make it longer.

Ironically, this is another similarity to The Disappearance Of Madeline McCann. This article could be condensed to a three-parter, which would have addressed many of the issues.
Vatican Girl is a good docu-series. There’s plenty to consume – if your patience allows. This series is definitely not one you want to binge on because of the amount of padding, but it is still a very appealing series.
You may enjoy conspiracy theories and unsolved mysteries, but it will not satisfy everyone else. This is especially true considering the time commitment of this show.
