The Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song animation was created by Re:ZERO author Tappei Nagatsuki, and CHAOS;CHILD scriptwriter Eiji Umehara

One element in the Vivy anime that is notable is the fact that its script is composed by Tappei Nagatsuki, who was the author of the Re:Zero -Starting Life In Another World- light novel series.

The popular book series ran until Volume 27 in June 2021. The producers of the Re:Zero adaptation of the anime are currently in the process of teasing an Re:Zero Season 3 anime TV series.

As per WIT Studio president George Wada, he contacted Re:ZERO writer Eiji Umehara regarding the possibility of creating a new anime series along with Wada. They had previously collaborated with Production I.G. and Umehara suggested they bring Nagatsuki to the project.

Nagatsuki began Re:ZERO in the form of a self-published online novel published on the Shousetsuka Ni Narou (Let’s Become A Novelist) website. The novel was later edited and released with the intention of releasing it as a light novel. Also, Nagatsuki has ample experience in the rearranging of his stories to suit various media.

The interesting thing is the fact that the idea was originally a novel. In 2016, while Umehara was developing the screenplay for Re:ZERO Season 1, he thought that they should take an alternative approach when developing this brand new anime.

“[T]he screenplay meetings [Re:ZERO] for the show were a fantastic experience for me. I gained a lot of knowledge about the process of transforming the story into a TV show that is animated and also had productive discussions with the original writer and the author, Nagatsuki,” Umehara stated during an interview. “Since this was my first time that I was working on the series composition for a TV show that was animated, I was looking to integrate techniques that had been successful in previous series I created. For Vivy, I had first planned to write a novel prior to working on the screenplay.”

Umehara pointed out that it’s difficult for animators to have the same vision to create a unique work. The creative team generally isn’t able to see the larger picture, but novels can act as a source of information in the production process, and still keep the audience engaged since they aren’t sure of the next step.

With the concept novel in their hands, animators had a clear view of the entire story starting from the beginning. This allowed them to link the artwork as well as the background artwork to tell the tale in efficient ways. Because the story is a jump between different eras, they were able to convey these changes to each period by using background art.

The only drawback is the length of time required. The initial project began in the last quarter of 2016. The novel writing process began in the following year, and by the second quarter of 2018, they were done.

“I wouldn’t recommend this method to everyone,” Umehara stated as she laughed.

Nagatsuki remembers being completely shocked by the idea that they would write a book to use as the idea for the original series rather than a rewrite of the novel. It was also strange for the team to begin an allegedly original anime project by being required to read the book.

Nagatsuki recalls having a bond with Umehara because they were alike in terms of age, and never being happy at the time Umehara was first named the creator of the script for the CHAOS;CHILD game.

The two writers collaborated to design the series composition chart for each episode. They split the responsibility for each episode, and then wrote the book.

They then began revising and tweaking their respective stories. They also had numerous meetings with the producer and director that resulted in major adjustments to the plot.

“In fact, the characters’ personalities, the events of the story, and even the narrative arc that leads to the ending are different,” Nagatsuki explained. “Even if you know the story of the novel or anime beforehand, you can enjoy the other as a fresh experience.”

Wada claims Nagatsuki was the one who brought the idea of time travel to the forefront because the notion of time is crucial to the Re:ZERO tale. Nagatsuki recognized that Hollywood films focusing on artificial intelligence as well as the concept of time traveling (ahem, Terminator) hold the same appeal for everyone, therefore he decided to incorporate into each episode an idea that he had regarding AI stories.

“Mr. Umehara already had the concepts of AI and singing when he invited me to be part of the project. There are numerous intriguing angles to choose to tell stories that are based on AI, however, we were captivated at the life span for an AI is incredibly long when compared to human beings, and we set out to develop an enthralling story that focused on the idea of time. The themes of time travel as well as going through time integrated into the story due to the fact that I was a part of this project (laughs),” Nagatsuki explained. “The artificial intelligence character Vivy, who is the protagonist, is aware that what actually occurred in the past as well as the events recorded in the past are not the same. Because her thinking processes differ from those of humans, she’s forced to choose between being human or an AI. After this concept was solidified in our minds, the entire ideas that we needed to develop the story surfaced pretty quickly…After learning about this project, I was determined to pack everything I’ve ever thought of trying using AI into every episode. While working on each episode, keeping this in mind, we made sure that the stories linked to one another and then lead to the final finale. The story was woven together in a manner that I’m sure that people will be drawn to the whole series.”

Vivy Prototype book release time

The title is Vivy Prototype. Mag Garden Books is publishing the novel as part of a book series. The release date for the first volume was set for April 30, 2021, while Volume 2 was released on May 31st, 2021, and Volume 3 was released on June 30, 2021.

It’s unclear at present how these Vivy Prototype books will differ from the anime versions.

Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song Season 2’s release dates: The reason why a Vivy sequel is not likely because of the end of the series

Since the last report, Aniplex, WIT Studio, or any other company linked to the anime production have not confirmed in writing an official Vivy Season 2’s release date. The production of the Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song sequel has not been announced.

When the news is officially confirmed, this post will be updated to reflect the pertinent details.

At present, it’s also possible to speculate on when, or if, the Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song Season 2 release date will happen in the near future.

The scenario is comparable to that of the Warlords of Sigrdrifa anime TV series, which was composed by Tappei Nagatsuki. The Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song anime is light years over the previous project in terms of storytelling and production quality, and while the reviewers reflect the difference, the two projects are similar in the sense that they seem to be written as a separate story.

The storyline is quite obvious from the beginning that AI the singer Diva/Vivy has embarked on traveling through 100 years. The OP/ED as well as the voice cast tease that the story will involve time-jumping between at least four eras focusing on specific characters.

Vivy Episode 3 was a leap forward 15 years. The Vivy episodes 5 and 6 featured futuristic AI/teddy bear Matsumoto awakening five years into the future with Momoka’s sister, and turning into the shape of a futuristic cube.

However, even if the time loop cannot be avoided, it doesn’t appear that it’s likely that Vivy Season 2 will be necessary. The main concept of the show is Vivy finding meaning in her mission through singing her heart out and not just finishing her Singularity Project mission.

Nagatsuki and Umehara, the writers of Vivy, aren’t the only ones who believe that Vivy Season 2 is impossible. In the interview with the team behind the show, George Wada seemed to hint that Episode 13 could end the possibility of a sequel.

“After an extended production time and engaging in discussions with a variety of people regarding the various ways to end the story and a possible conclusion, we came up with a final to Vivy that we felt that this was the only way we could conclude this story,” Wada said. “We’d be delighted if you would all watch the series until the grand finale.”

However, when the impending apocalypse caused by satellites is prevented by Vivy’s sacrifice, we witness a new, hairless Vivy awakened with Matsumoto telling her that her goal is “make everyone happy with singing.” Interestingly, Matsumoto doesn’t mention that her mission requires she sing with her heart.

The stinging omission renders the brand new Vivy an unrecognizable version that is her previous self. This cuts through the core themes since the primary tension that runs through the entire story is not addressed. She’s not Diva or Vivy. She’s actually just a Sisters AI that is incorporated inside the body of Vivy.

The true Vivy sacrificed her life and her thoughts to save humanity, bringing forth imagination for the sole reason of dismantling Archive from its evil plans for humanity through an opportunity to reflect. With this new, simplified mission that is revealed in the post-credits, the new Vivy is not going to be able to find the passion and motivation to replicate the actions made by her predecessor.

However, this scene leaves the door open to the possibility of a Vivy sequel. Apart from the new Vivy, AI Elizabeth was also saved. AI Elizabeth survived and the AI race itself is currently being rebuilt.

Final Thoughts On Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, Season 2

Many anime lovers would be happy if Vivy’s anime Season 2 was announced. However, I was happy with the way it ended, and I’d like to see more of Vivy. I’m sure there aren’t any plans to keep the series going, however, we’ll know more within the coming years.
