Abbott Elementary Recap
After two seasons of flirting, having heart-to-hearts in hallways and trying to deny their obvious attraction, Abbott‘s Janine and Gregory (Quinta Brunson and Tyler James Williams) have finally — held up. This is your last chance to catch up on Season 2, Episode 16 “Teacher Conference”.
If you want to see what will undoubtedly go down in TV History as the best episode of the series, or if you simply want to know more about what happened at that teacher conference, then you can squeal. Why? Why? Because Janine Teagues’ slow-burn and Gregory Eddies’s full-blown fire finally lit up after 28 episodes. They shared A PASSIONATE KISS.
Janine (Chris Perfetti), and Jacob (Chris Perfetti), hype Barbara (Sheryl Leroy Ralph) and Melissa [Lisa Ann Walter] about the weekend-long Pennsylvania Educational Conference for the Southeast Area Teacher’s Conference (PECSA). The Potential Kiss Alarm Bells sound immediately when Janine and Gregory are pictured in a new setting. All hope is lost when he announces he’s not going to PECSA weekend to go with Amber Jones (Nate) and to make up for the Lego Valentine’s Day gift disaster. After Amber discovers Gregory had scheduled back-to-back activities during her relaxing vacation, she dumps Gregory, which conveniently frees up his weekend.

Janine, high on Kombucha and a love for education, tells her colleagues that she will be leaving the big PECSA party to go see the Philadelphia Flower Show’s live classroom exhibit. Barbara and Melissa enjoy poolside bliss as the group breaks down. Jacob meets a new friend and Janine bumps into Gregory. At the front desk. She tells him that Amber has left, and he vows to distract her with exciting events.
Barbara and Melissa are distracted by Melissa’s sister (Lauren Weedman). at PECSA party, Gregory and Janine are left alone…at bar…in regular clothing…several days after Janine discovered Gregory had a crush on her…and one after Gregory’s girlfriend dumped him. YOU DO THE MATH. “Why is it that I am always the one getting dumped?” Gregory, who is agitated, asks, “It’s gotta have been me, right?” Janie assures him that it isn’t, and he confesses to feeling “always like a strangeo” around Amber. Janine, drunk but not wrong, giggles and snorts, “You are a strangeo,” before clarifying, “I mean that in a positive way.” Everyone deserves to be loved exactly the way they are. You are the best example of this. Seriously. Take a look at this sweater. Take a look at the mustache. It’s not common for people to do this.”
Gregory tells Janine to “Don’t Sleep on Janine” and they head to the photo booth. It is a simple, but adorable shoot. Janine remembers that she didn’t see the living classroom exhibit when he gave him a prop sunflower. Gregory places his mischievous prop mustache in place and says that they will sneak into the room even though it is closed. The next time they see us, they’ll burst into the room, so beautiful, you’ll be able to feel your tears welling up. The walls of the classroom are covered with colorful bouquets of yellow, orange and pink flowers, moss, and other plant materials. The floor is covered with green grass, while white and pink flowers hang from the ceiling. Desks are hidden behind greenery and blossoms by using stump chairs, while shelves are filled with succulents. The room has a warm glow thanks to string lights and illuminated backpacks for terrariums. It’s romantic and perfect for first kisses. Think your glammed-up cousin.
Gregory and Janine walk in together with wide eyes and dropped jaws. Janine reaches out to Gregory and grabs his arm, admiring a hanging plant. “OH MY GOODNESS!” “This is even better than what I imagined.” The scene features unique camera angles, zooms and spy shots through leaves. Janine marvels at the beauty and the camera then focuses on Gregory taking Janine in. Janine states, “I don’t want to sound cheesy but this — it looks like exactly how my feelings about teaching are.” “The growth and all. It’s just. It’s just.

Gregory responds, “Yeah, I get it.” “The teaching and the plants. It’s just like how I grew and who I am now.” Janine stops to acknowledge the situation, then walks over to sniff a flower. She accidentally knocks over a vase full of blocks. They hear voices outside and panic. Then they crouch in the otherworldly display. Janine pushes Gregory away and urges him to smell that flower again. He instead leans forward and kisses her with all of the repressed passion of 28 long episodes. It’s all right with the world. Janine pulls Janine in for another kiss after they have parted for a while. They kiss, caress each other’s heads and then part their lips once more. After a few moments of peace, they both fall silent and mentally shift from the living classroom into the Abbott classroom. Janine covers Gregory’s mouth and utters two words to him: “Oh no!”
The two of them frantically talk and then unpack their brief magical make-out session. “That? That? Janine says, “That?’ The kiss? That was a whoops!” “We got caught up in the moment…Like when my internet provider helps me reset my internet, and I say, “OK, I love you!” Do I really love my internet service provider? No. Because their networks aren’t reliable, and I’m currently dating Maurice (Vince Staples), …”
Gregory muses, “Who can really tell what things are or aren’t at the end of the day?” It’s true, that’s what she said. Two friends caught up in the moment. It was good because it was exactly what it was. Two friends were all caught up in the moment.
Abbott returns to the living classroom after the kids have left. Janine is heard repeating “IT’S OK”, shooting finger guns and awkwardly high-fiving Gregory. They meet up in the hall at school Monday morning and agree that the incident was “a nothing matter” and can be attributed to the Philly flower show, the drinks and the sexy Allentown. Gregory asks, “So we’re just throwing that out?” “Throwing out. Janine assures him that there is nothing but net. Janine and Gregory turn their backs, and the camera captures Janine giving a confused smile and Gregory looking around like he is protesting. “Yes, we’ll just throw that out. Janine mumbles inconsolably, “It was nothing.”

Abbott Elementary‘s “Teacher Conference”, is an emotional rollercoaster that takes you from start to finish. It ends on an exciting, but not ideal, note. Fans were expecting fireworks between Janine (and Gregory) in the episode “Valentine’s Day.” But the show defied all expectations and succeeded.
The natural setting, which was fueled by Gregory’s breakup and too many drinks, as well as a wild teachers weekend, made for a romantic backdrop. The kiss was logically placed, sensual, and still very special. Brunson’s Emmy-winning comedy built Janine’s foundation and deepened their relationship and respect for each other. While some may find the decision to partially extinguish the flame and fuel the fire frustrating, it is not something that they take lightly. Their professional relationship with Maurice and their friendship are all things they should consider. The slow-burn is back, but we do know that their chemistry has been excellent.

What’s the story in Abbott Elementary Season 3?

This is the beauty of shows such as this: I don’t know. This show is not based on any comic or book series. There isn’t really a plot to give us clues as to what’s next. Gregory will take the steps to achieve his goal of becoming a principal. He might even become vice principal. He might transfer schools. Is the charter school going to pull off some ridiculous stunts? Will Barbara retire? There are so many possibilities. It’s not worth worrying about. Quinta & co. will make it amazing no matter what.
Abbott Elementary Season Plot & Cast

The entire Season 2 cast looks set to return for Season 3, Janelle James. Lisa Ann Walter, Sheryl Le Ralph, Tyler James Williams and Chris Perfetti round out the main cast.
Review Before To Watch Abbott Elementary Season 3

Quinta Brunson’s first season established the series as both a sweet-natured and big-hearted half-hour as well as a symbol of network comedy. “Abbott” is rooted in both the old office-comedy format (in this case, a Philadelphia public high school) and the 21st century custom of mockumentary. This has made it a strong advocate for traditional forms. Brunson’s Emmy nomination for writing the pilot was both a welcome recognition of a new talent as well as a surprise.
The show’s strong run continues with its first two episodes in the second season. The decision about how to distribute the money hangs over the school’s previous season. This is a beautiful way to use both halves of “Abbott”‘s emotional equation. The teachers are aware that they are not adequately funded and that even a bonus would go too quickly. Yet, they smile because there’s no alternative. The scene where the teachers visit a charter school with a lot of resources before returning home to their own deprivation is fascinating. There’s barely any concealment of envy as they ricochet from one another.
Brunson’s character Janine, who is barely holding it together, is at the center of the show. Brunson’s season premiere features a scene in which she describes Janine’s emotional breakdown. It’s one of the most memorable acting roles she has done on the show. The ensemble does well too. Lisa Ann Walter’s character was initially perceived as a delivery mechanism for one joke about a sinisterly amoral person. But Walter’s performance and Melissa’s easily bruised pride are moving in interesting directions. Janelle James continues to explore new ways to portray narcissism, ineptitude. She treats the grant disbursement like an episode of “Shark Tank.” Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Barbara share the most fascinating chemistry on the show, their weariness and their perennial polish bumping into each other.

This ensemble is so strong that it can sometimes cover for moments when the network sitcom can feel, well, like one. Numerous plot elements were discarded in an orderly fashion over the summer. This resulted in Janine and Gregory being reintroduced to their personal lives offscreen in a way that felt abrupt and unplanned. I felt confused by the episode’s second episode’s internal logic about Barbara mistaking the names of Black actors. But it’s something one can overlook and forget when a show is on the air for weeks. (“Abbott”‘s second season will have 22 episodes, compared to 13 in the first season. James’ performance distracted from the fact that an ABC sitcom performing a “Shark Tank homage” feels at best like a corny tie-in, like when the family of “Black-ish” went to Walt Disney World to promote the parks. The show uses mockumentary devices to its advantage (often in James’ performance and her tendency of trying to capture the camera’s lens), but it is unclear why this story is being told that way. The final season of “The Office” saw the cast examine the reasons they had been filmed so long. This was the last word on the device and its potential uses.
This is especially true since the stories are told with a lively pace that doesn’t require characters to explain themselves to the camera. Janine’s moment in agitated panic (Brunson’s showcase scene), occurs when she is having a conversation with her colleagues. The device has fallen apart and we can see the community outside of the confessional booth. The mockumentary system of characters telling their stories in the familiar “Office”/Modern Family style is the best I can say about it. It functions a little like a Trojan horse, whether or not. People expect a sitcom to move in a familiar, comforting way. Instead, they end up watching characters struggle to pay the bills or wondering how they will continue to educate their children with the available resources.
They keep going, and the weekly rhythms that make up a sitcom are a good match for the schoolday rhythms. “Abbott”‘s characters are driven by purpose and have the perseverance of people who want to make the most of life. They give the series a fresh feel and add energy to the otherwise bleak profession of urban teacher. Brunson’s ability to put familiar forms to worthwhile and enjoyable ends is evident in “Abbott”. The series colors are vivid and within the lines, just like a good student.
