Alice in Borderland SEASON 2 : When will it air ?
Alice In Borderland season 2 has been scheduled for release in December 2022, exactly two years after the first episode.
Netflix announced the news as part their virtual Japan Festival event in November 2021. The release was also announced as part their showreel of the coming year.
Filming for the new episodes did not begin until the second half 2021. Principal photography is expected to continue right up until the new year.
This news was confirmed by a casting call for extras . Those looking to get some screen time must keep this window open.
Netflix confirmed that season 2 had been completed in March 2022.
Netflix shared the news via one of its Twitter accounts. It also posted a video of the cast reacting to the shoot. The caption for the post was added by the streaming platform:
“Get ready for the return to games – season 2 of Alice In Borderland is finished filming! Season one’s deadly games saw 10 cast members die. The popular Japanese action/sci-fi series will return in December 2022 with more difficult and greater challenges.
The post-production process for this show could take a while due to all the effects required. However, we are relying on the December 2022 promise.
In its effort to increase international content, Netflix will release 50 titles including the new Alice In Borderlandseason.
This includes films and series , both animated and live-action.
Cast of Alice in Borderland season 2 : Who’s there?
Netflix posted a Twitter video of all cast members returning to season 2 as mentioned above.
Kento Yamazaki as Ryohei Arisu, Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi, Keita Machida as Daikichi Karube, Sho Aoyagi as Aguni Morizono, Yuki Morinaga as Chota Segawa, Nijiro Murakami as Shuntaro Chishiya, Ayaka Miyoshi as Ann Rizuna, Aya Asahina as Hikari Kuina and Riisa Naka as Mira Kano.
Fans were surprised to see Dori Sakurada return as Suguru Niragi.
Niragi, one of the residents at ‘The Beach’ was a key antagonist since their arrival. Although initially thought that Niragi had been killed by Shuntaro Chisiya, he was defeated by Aguni in a battle. However, the video just confirms his return.
Sakurada posted the news himself on his Instagram with a photo of Niragi severely burned and the caption “Niragi’s back.”
This opens up the possibility for other characters to surprise us by returning from the dead.
If this happens, any of these could return in season two: Keita Mchida (Daikichi Karube), Yuki Murinaga (Chota Seawa), Nobuaki Kanneko (Takeru Danma/Hatter), Kina Yanaki (Momoka Inoue), Shuntaro Yaagi (Takatora Samura/Last Boss), Mizuki Yoshida(Asahi Kujo).
These flashbacks or unexpected twists could be the result of these returns.
Alice in Borderland SEASON 2 : What’s the story ?
The first season of Alice In Borderland aired approximately half of Haro Aso’s manga series. There were at least 33 more chapters that could be used as inspiration. The creators of Netflix’s adaptation could take the story in a different direction.
Arisu was not only alive after a series of fatal games but had also lost Chota, Korube and his friends along the way. He was now ready for the final Ten of Hearts game, where everyone had to find the Witch who hid among them. Arisu discovered that Momoka was the Witch after a terrible massacre. This led to another discovery: that Asahi and she were deliberately sabotaging this game.
Arisu and Usagi eventually find themselves in the control room, where Mira, a stranger, announces that a new set of games will be taking place in Tokyo City. This means Arisu’s time is not over and the new controller might be more dangerous than any of her predecessors.
Although Netflix has not yet revealed the next big thing, Mira will be a key role as the Big Bad. While her games may be different from what we have seen, they will be in the same deadly vein.
You can expect to see more consequences from the idea of saboteurs, making it harder for Arisu trust others around him. This is especially true now that Arisu’s friends have died, leaving only the trauma of their deaths. Let’s pray that the show doesn’t forget all of this psychological damage in season 2.
No matter what happens, season 2 will not change the location.
Shinsuke Sato, writer and director of Shinsuke’s film “Setting the story here allowed a sense curiosity and exoticism in Tokyo,” he said (via Still watching Netflix).
“I had viewers all over the world in my mind from the very beginning. Alice In Borderland was designed with the Japanese market as its primary focus. It was also a chance to experience Japan’s culture and atmosphere. It was my hope that an international audience, even those who don’t know Japan well, would be inspired or deeply moved by Japan.
Sato gave a hint that the show could run for three seasons.
“This is based on a manga comic of a long length. It’s not just for Alice, Borderland. But if this were a movie, it would have a three-act structure. It’s something we learned in film school. A two-hour movie can balance well with a three-act structure. In my youth, I believed that I needed a three-act structure. I was careful about how I divided the three acts.
Sato’s style has changed since then so you can bet that all bets are off.
“The less I thought about the structure, the more I wrote.” To get closer to the image, I made a lot more changes. I wrote it countless times. To get to satisfaction, I would rewrite, then throw away, and then rewrite again.
Season 2 will feature similar characters, whether they are the heroes or the villains.
Sato stated, “It is important to create an important protagonist for any story,” Sato stated. But great protagonists don’t have to be set in stone from the start. The protagonist’s strengths are, I believe, what makes them great.
“As a director there are layers of me that I add to the characters I create. Sometimes I add my own traits to the characters. Sometimes, even with the most evil characters, you can see the shadows of their past and understand why they behave the way they do.
The stars gave viewers some insight into what to expect in the second season. Yamazaki stated that the “world of the show” is “bigger than ever,” while Tsuchiya said that each shot contains big set pieces like explosions.
Sho Aoyagi plays Aguni and is shown with battle scars on his face. He adds: “The first season of Aguni was great, but this second season takes it further.”
