Dunes 2 continues to add more stars to its already impressive cast, as it prepares to begin shooting later in the year.
It’s clear that the decision was a success. Dune or Dune: Part One made $400 million in box office revenue and won six Oscars. It didn’t win Best Picture but we’ll just let it go.
1920.a.37662998[src It will depend on the success of Part 2 at the box office, but we have no doubt that it will be a factor in the third movie.
We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. Here are the details about Dune Part 2.
Dune 2 release date: When will we see Dune Part Two of Dune?
Dune Part Two was initially scheduled for October 20, 2023. However, this was pushed back to November 17, 2023. It is likely that the sequel will be released in the USA as an exclusive theatrical release.
Villeneuve stated that he was ready to go in September 2021, just before the movie’s release. Villeneuve explained that to move quickly in a movie this large, one still needs to make sets and costumes.
He said Empire in February 2022 that the film is “mostly designed”. The thing that is most helpful right now is the fact that this is my first time revisiting a universe. He noted that he is working with the same team, everyone knows what to do and what it will look like.
“The movie will be harder, but we know exactly where we are going. The screenplay is complete. I feel confident. The pandemic is my biggest unknown right now.
According to Deadline, the sequel was to begin filming “in the autumn”. Assuming everything goes according to plan, we are confident that we will actually return to Arrakis on October 2023.
Dune 2 cast: Who is coming back for Dune Part Two
Although we are technically still waiting on confirmation from the cast, it seems like everyone is open to returning given their responses to the sequel announcement.
We will see Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides again. Zendaya’s Chani will play the role of his co-lead.
“I want to grow along with the characters that I play and the people I learn from. Anyone who has ever read the books will know that there is so much more to learn and deal with,” Zendaya said Deadline.
Other roles include Rebecca Ferguson playing Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem portraying Stilgar, Stellan Skarsgard portraying the villainous Baron Harkonnen, and Dave Bautista (aka ‘The Beast) as the Baron’s nephew Glossu Raban.
Bardem, like Zendaya is expected to play a larger role in the sequel. He revealed to Vanity Fair that Villeneuve had pitched him the expanded sequel role.
“He [Villeneuve] stated, “I have a small part, if such a thing exists, but as the second book goes on the role will grow, and I would love for you to take it, if you’d like to.” I replied, “Of course, I want. He recalled that he didn’t care whether there was a second film.
Don’t expect to see Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides or Jason Momoa playing Duncan Idaho, or Babs Olusanmokun playing Jamis. They were all killed in the first movie.
Book readers will be aware that Momoa could return to Duncan Idaho in the future. Who knows? Villeneuve might even find a way to incorporate that plot into the sequel.
“Those who are familiar with the book know that Duncan Idaho reappears, so it isn’t over until the last lady sings,” said editor Joe Walker to Colider.
After the attack by House Harkonnen on Arrakis, the fates of Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck (and Stephen McKinley Henderson’s Thufir Hawt) were still unknown. book readers will be able to see what happened, but we won’t spoil the future events.
It’s clear that there will be many new faces in the cast as well as Elvis star Austin Butler playing Feyd-Rautha and Florence Pugh playing Princess Irulan. Christopher Walken will play Emperor Shaddam IV, Lea Seydoux will play Lady Margot.
We expect more announcements to come before filming begins on the sequel, such as who will be playing ( spoiler alert), Paul’s younger sister Alia.
Dune 2 plot: What’s Dune Part Two?
The first movie covered only half of Herbert’s book. It ended when Lady Jessica and Paul were accepted by the Fremen and sent on their way towards Stilgar’s home.
House Atreides being decimated, it will be them against Empire in the sequel. We’ll see more of Paul’s visions of his future come to life as he leads an uprising against the Empire.
Villeneuve said that he tried to end the movie later using the book’s time jump but realized that his “first intuition” after Paul meets the Fremen was the best place to end it.
Paul’s prophetic abilities allowed the first movie to contain exciting teasers about the future of the character as he struggles with his destiny. This could be related to Chani or the Fremen at Arrakis.
We mentioned in our review that the first half of the movie had to do the bulk of world-building. Villeneuve said that the groundwork was the most difficult part of the movie. But now it’s complete, Part 2 is “an insane playground”.
Villeneuve teased that the sequel would “go deeper into some of these detail,” including the Feyd-Rautha. He said, “It’s almost like a chess match.” “The second part will introduce some new characters.”
He claims that the sequel will include “much more Harkonnen material”.
Javier Bardem teased that the sequel will not be just a simple adaptation, even if you have read the book.
“I have read the revised draft and it is amazing how they put the pieces together in a way that will surprise people. They won’t be surprised because they have read the book. But they will be amazed at the way they put the pieces together.” he stated.
It moved me greatly. It is a full movie. You can feel its weight and the incredibleness of it.
Dune 2 trailer: Any Dune Part Two footage yet?
It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that there is no Part Two footage as yet, since filming has not started. We are sorry about that.
