Fire Country Before Season 2

Before starting, we will make a little reminder of the previous season.

Summary of Fire Country Season 1

Bode Donovan volunteers to help inmate firefighters. This program allows the California Fire Department to fight massive wildfires, and inmates can reduce their sentences.

Bode quickly realizes that he’s being posted in Edgewater, his hometown which he left many years ago. We are still trying to figure out why he moved from Edgewater. Slowly, we are introduced to other characters in the show including Gabriela and the chief of the fire department. Bode rescues Gabriela, whose car was damaged. Bode meets Manny, a mentor, but regrets that he has been sent back to his hometown.

Bode and Freddy, along with Manny, jump into action when a car accident causes a wildfire. Eve and Jake are trapped on a ridge that is surrounded by flames. Bode is willing to risk his life to save them. But the two of them fight after he opens up to Jake. We learn that Jake’s sister Riley was killed in a car accident while Jake was driving.

Jake picked Riley up, but she was still crying from a fight with him. Eight episodes of Fire Country were released so far. The last episode ended with a huge cliffhanger.

Bode and Jake start to feel better as he slowly returns to his old life, with familiar faces from his past. Bode and Jake’s bitterness resurfaces when Bode and Gabriela begin to feel for one another.

Bad memories surfaced when Vince and Captain Manny Perez tried to rescue two siblings from a car that was hung off a bridge. Bode, however, is determined to save his siblings and risk his life once more. In doing so, Bode also falls over the bridge. The question is now whether Bode is still alive. Gabriela can be seen running behind Bode, seemingly without second thoughts, in an attempt to save him.

Fire Country Storyline: What could it be about?

Fire Country is a series that focuses on Bode Donovan (a young convict). Donovan was once a perfect American citizen, until one day he disappeared from his hometown and started to live a life as a criminal.

He is now back and seeking redemption. Donovan is a part of a Northern California prison release firefighting program that allows inmates and firefighters to work together to extinguish large wildfires. Is Donovan going to get the forgiveness he so desperately seeks?

Review Before To Watch Fire Country Season 2

Firefighter dramas, apologies for the spoiler-filled content that’s to come, have never been more popular. All four major broadcast networks have at least one: FOX, NBC, ABC, Station 19 and CBS all have Fire Country. This is the new show from Tony Phelan (formerly Grey’s Anatomy producer) and Joan Rater.

Unfortunately for CBS, which has finally recognized other types of first-responder dramas as profitable, Fire Country transforms a promising premise—an innocent firefighter who seeks redemption and a reduced sentence in prison in his rural home—into another scripted procedural that fits in with most eye network’s middle-of-the-road shows, but is still inferior to its better (and more successful) predecessors. The show’s two first episodes, despite the large scale of its emergency, are not a great achievement in visual effects. They also feel shackled to conventions in the genre.

Fire Country stars Seal Team‘s Max Thieriot playing Bode Donovan. He is a young convict that, after being denied parole, decides to join an firefighting program in Northern California, where he and others work with Cal Fire elite firefighters to extinguish wildfires throughout the region. Bode is sentenced to a three-to five-year term. He is then unwittingly sent to Three Rock Con Camp. This camp, which serves as a training facility and home base for inmate firefighters, is located in Edgewater, his gossipy hometown. Bode is unable to be reassigned because why would he? Bode must confront the dark secrets that led him to the decision to leave his small town five years ago.

Thieriot also serves as executive producer and used his Northern California experiences to co-create the series along with Rater and Phelan. The pilot is a good introduction to the show’s key characters. Bode’s connections will be more apparent by the end of it. However, it occasionally wanders into soapy territory with plot twists that may take some viewers by surprise.

However, the show’s structure is not up to its ambitious scope. While other firefighter shows tend to focus on one firehouse only, Fire Country features two. One at Three Rock Con is led by Manny (Kevin Alejandro), with whom he shares a special relationship, and one at a local station under the leadership of Vince (Billy Burke), who married Sharon Farr, division chief. It makes sense at first to separate the departments. The show suffers from a lack of the thrilling ride-or-die camaraderie found in other shows in the same genre. While viewers may tune in to see the dramatic emergencies, they won’t stay if they feel connected with the personalities of the characters. The only hint of that relationship is from Jake (Black Lightning‘s Jordan Calloway), who keeps the show from falling apart. Eve (Jules Latimer) are two firefighters from Vince’s small station, still mourning the loss of their close friend Riley. Both Jake and Eve are far more compelling than Thieriot’s Bode who seems more interested in being the hero and undermining the captain’s confused theories than they are in substance.

The show’s premise could be reworked. Although they have formed many bonds with Bode, Cal Fire’s local department, it would not have been difficult for the writers to create a show about Bode or the other inmates learning and working on the job with him. This would have allowed Fire Country to foster a sense of teamwork and explore those who want to atone by saving lives.

Bode is the only one who can search for redemption. Why is Bode the only one who can find redemption? Fire Country tries to be all things to all people, whereas it should have a single focus. This makes the show feel stale and dated compared to other similar shows. It would be inaccurate to call the latest television drama about firefighters a flame-out. It feels more like a smash and burn.
