From Scratch Before Season 2

Before talking about From Scratch Season 2, let’s take a look at the past season.
From Scratch Season 1 Recap And Ending Explained

It was easy to understand why viewers started searching for other shows that could evoke similar feelings of love, loss, and time passing. “From Scratch” was all that and more. Critics have rightly praised “From Scratch,” which is rich in themes about family and reinvention.
Fans first encountered “From Scratch” as a book. The memoir was written by Tembi Locke, an actor playing characters in sitcoms like “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Martin, and “The Jamie Foxx Show.” The book and Netflix’s limited series followed Amy Wheeler (Zoe Saldana), who is a fictionalized Locke, as she progresses in her career and begins a passionate relationship with Lino (Eugenio Masstrandrea). As it examines the many forms of family, the story takes viewers on a tragic and enjoyable journey.
Reese Witherspoon is the show’s producer. She had a great mid-career run and flipped her talents to work behind the camera. It’s no surprise that “From Scratch,” which was produced by her production company, has been a huge hit in recent years. Nevertheless, viewers may not be as familiar with some of the thematic elements in works as grounded as these, especially when the series reaches its emotional end. Here’s a description of the ending of “From Scratch.”
Amy is ready for a new chapter in her life
After Lino has died from cancer, the finale begins. Amy is devastated. Amy’s daughter attempts to get her to eat, but Amy is too depressed. She continues to be depressed until Zora, her strict sister (Danielle Deadwyler), enters her bedroom and offers her a comforting shoulder. Zora manages to convince her to get out of bed and makes her laugh.
Zora and Amy have a strong bond. She is the opposite. Zora has always felt that she can trust Amy, but Amy believes she can. The two of them then get into a fight. Zora claims she feels like she’s always been “the strong one” but that she is unable to do so anymore because she needs someone to care for her. From Scratch Season 2
Zora and her partner become more stable with each episode. She even begins a family with him. Zora and Amy learn to work together to solve their problems. Zora is able to see the benefits of their relationship, while Amy continues to care for her baby sister. She could actually be more present for Amy, given her support system. Zora’s husband stayed with Lino when Lino was sickest.
Zora later promises Lino that she will take care of Idalia after he passes away. Amy is also part of this care.
Amy fulfills her promise to Lino
Amy will keep Lino’s promise when she is finally able to get up from her bed and live her life again. Lino asks that Amy ensure their daughter is educated about Sicilian culture. Amy finds it difficult, but she transports Lino’s ashes to Sicily.
Lino and Amy had never had a daughter before that time. Lino had just been cured of cancer and the couple had two choices: adopt a child or undergo medical procedures. Amy, exhausted from all the trips to the hospital, decides to adopt — and that is how Idalia enters their lives.
Idalia is an average young woman who inherited her father’s warm and funny sense of humor. Amy is jealous of Lino’s closeness and she becomes too busy with her work to be as present as her father. Amy and her daughter travel to Sicily later in life. They become even closer, Idalia learning Italian and gossiping with the local ladies. This is exactly what Lino would want.
Lino always said that his family is important to him, and that he wouldn’t want Amy to be apart from his culture. Amy is certain she won’t.
Lino’s family accepts Amy into their ranks

Lino’s family is not able to attend Amy’s wedding in Florence, even though they live close. This clearly affects Amy’s relationship with her in-laws. Amy and Lino reach an agreement with Lino’s parents only after Lino is ill. Even then, the situation is far from perfect. Amy decides to bring Lino’s ashes to Sicily. She doesn’t know that her mother-in-law will prepare the whole town for her arrival.
Amy’s relationship with Filomena (Lucia Sardo) grows beyond their connection to Lino. Amy is asked to translate heated exchanges between a foreigner and the mayor of the town. Amy convinces the tourist to forget about the mayor, even though he is most likely at fault. Filomena later in the day inquires about the solution. After hearing Amy’s accomplishments, Filomena expresses delight that Amy chose to support them — indicating her loyalty to her new home. From Scratch Season 2
Amy understands the reason Filomena skipped the wedding; it was because she is loyal to her husband. Filomena is happy Amy has come to terms with this and informs Amy that she will be leaving her land plot to Amy and Idalia. This is Filomena’s formal acceptance of Amy into her family.
Filomena is certain Lino has never disobeyed his family

Lino enjoyed gossip, just like many others. There is, however, a doctor that lives right up the street who loves to keep his secrets. This leads to the ladies in the area wondering if the mansion is as lavish as they have heard. After a minor incident, Idalia is not feeling well so they insist that she be taken to the doctor’s home. Filomena, Amy, and Idalia are sent to the house by Filomena to check if there is as much gold as they have heard.
They discover that they are more valuable than gold. Lino’s poor education management led to his fallout with his father. This resulted in Lino’s family not attending his wedding. Lino was able to get a good education as a translator thanks to his father. His father was not happy that Lino wanted to change careers and become a chef and felt Lino had taken the opportunities offered by his parents for granted. Filomena is shocked when the doctor shows Filomena his picture of Lino and his son outside Lino’s restaurant, Florence. Filomena realizes that Lino was highly respected, even though he didn’t become a translator. From Scratch Season 2
Filomena cries as she realizes that the notion that Lino was not exerting himself, which has kept them apart so long, is false. Lino and his dad had already reestablished their relationship before they died.
Saint Anna Festival brings motherhood back to life

Filomena convinces Amy to stay for the Saint Anna Festival, even though Amy is about to leave Los Angeles. Amy agrees to stay a little longer.
Amy asks Filomena about the significance of the festival and Filomena tells her that Saint Anna was the mother of Mary. Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ, is a significant figure in Catholicism and deserves much respect. Filomena says that her mother, Saint Anna, is the mother of all mothers according to her culture. Amy invites her family along to the town for the celebration.
Idalia is shown the power and joy of motherhood during this event. Idalia is a woman who has a lot going for her. The audience can see how motherhood can be manifested in many different ways. All forms of motherhood are celebrated in the Saint Anna Festival sequence. There are many types of motherhood: biological mothers, adoptive mothers, in-law mothers, and aunts. Idalia has seen it all at such a young age. It is for her benefit to have witnessed it all, as well as the audience.
Amy and Idalia finally get the Tonino story

Amy contemplates accepting Filomena’s offer to inherit land. She walks around the property along with Idalia. They stop to take in the beautiful scenery along the Mediterranean and come across a man walking with a goat. The man begins to talk to them, and then he tells them that he was close with Lino when they were young. As the story continues, Amy and Idalia look at each other with wide eyes before they both cry out “Tonino!” He chuckles and agrees that he is Tonino.
Lino used Tonino as the main focus for all his bedtime stories. Although the story changed, sometimes taking a bizarre turn, neither Amy nor Idalia ever thought about it. Lino wanted Idalia to learn about his childhood. It wasn’t until now, however. Lino wanted Idalia back to Sicily to feel at home and this was his way to make that happen.
Amy and Idalia land in Sicily as a couple. Idalia’s only concern is the fact that her father’s remains will be left behind in Sicily when they arrive. This makes her sad, as it means she has to say goodbye forever. They had originally thought they would never return to Sicily. The trip to the final makes them realize that Sicily is their home, which means they can always return.
Amy discovers what Lino’s journal contains

Amy is a grounded person who doesn’t care about material possessions throughout the program. When she meets an artist at the gallery, she realizes that she is too concerned about money and critical acclaim. Amy believes that art is what matters most. This insight into her personality is why she values Lino’s notebook Lino left her, despite initially being reluctant to accept the land plot offered by her in-law.
Lino can often be seen writing in his journal during his final days. It is not known what he is actually writing. Lino could have been keeping a journal to record important events in his life. After Lino’s death, however, it was revealed that he was actually writing down recipes.
Amy cooks these dishes with Filomena and discovers that they are variations on what Lino’s mother used to make when he was younger. Lino saw these as a way to connect his two families.
Amy finally learns to accept Lino’s passing

It is clear that Amy relies on Zora for her emotional support up to the final episode, but Filomena has the ability to understand her grief. Filomena, who also loved Lino as much, is uniquely able to comfort Amy. Filomena also lost her husband. Filomena is able to understand Amy’s pain because she lost her father as a child.
Filomena’s approach to grief is, however, unorthodox, especially Amy’s. Filomena believed Lino would die when he was sickest. Amy thought that Filomena was just scared and giving up. However, this was not true. Filomena simply accepted the inevitable. Filomena now embraces Amy as a family member and shows Amy the clothes she would like to wear when she is older.
Amy is overwhelmed by all this, but Filomena shares a story about a local legend about Jesus leaving his clothes there on his travels. Filomena says that life is just a passing phase and that the legacy that is left behind is what matters. Amy finally gets that and knows that Lino will always remain in her heart.
Amy teaches Idalia all about family

Lino will be the closest person to Idalia in his final days. Lino cares as much about Idalia’s well-being and upbringing as any parent. Idalia loves Lino for this. Amy was the focus of all attention after Lino’s passing. Amy is told by Idalia that Amy has lost her husband. However, no one recalls that Amy also lost her father.
Amy assumes the role of Idalia’s confidante from that point on. She reassures Idalia and displays concern throughout the episode. Idalia, asking her mother if she can be called Italian even though she is of a different ethnicity than other Italians, is one example. Amy assures Idalia that family is not just about the color of your skin, or your genes. Amy says that the most important thing in determining your family is who you choose to be with.
Amy’s life has been full of ups and downs, but Amy’s choice aspect has remained constant. “From Scratch” emphasizes the importance of choosing a family member as well as any biological link.
Amy’s mother finally understands each other

Lino’s family isn’t the only one who makes it difficult for Amy at her wedding. Amy’s father, Maxine (Judith Scott), wants Amy to walk down the aisle with Amy’s stepmother. Amy’s biological mom, Lynn (Kellita Smith), is opposed. Amy’s request seems unreasonable on the surface. Amy’s biological mom abandoned Amy and her sister as children, and it was their stepmother that cared for them until Amy returned to their lives.
The feud between the mothers is not over. Maxine feels disrespected when Amy prepares to care for Idalia while she is pregnant. Lynn constantly reminds Maxine that she isn’t Amy’s biological mom. Maxine pushes back, telling Lynn that there are many ways to be a mom. Amy’s adoption is a good example of this. Maxine agrees with Lynn and tells her that she’s never been the person she imagined. Lynn then explains to Maxine that it hasn’t been like what she believed.
Filomena, Amy, and Lynn are making dinner for their family at the end. Lynn tells Idalia that Amy’s lucky to have three moms. Maxine smiles at Lynn, showing how much they appreciate each other’s role in the family.
Amy connects her two family members

Lino and Amy share a common belief in the importance of family. Lino meets Maxine (Keith David), Amy’s father, for the first time. He is also meeting Amy’s ex-boyfriend at his restaurant. Lino is able to entertain Amy’s parents, but the two have a frosty future. This, combined with Lino’s family not being able to attend their wedding, makes it difficult for the two families to get along.
As time goes by, Amy still relies on her family for help. Lino learns that Amy does not doubt his ability to provide, but rather because Amy has always held her family close to her heart. Amy extends the same kindness to Lino’s family. Amy works to rebuild the relationship between Lino and his family, even though they don’t always get along.
Unexpectedly, she even goes the extra mile to make sure Idalia’s maternal and paternal families get along. She invites her family to the festival and they have a great time. Amy is always available to serve as the family’s strongest link.
She finally finds closure

Amy takes Lino’s ashes with her to Sicily. But she also carries a portion of Lino’s ashes with her to remind herself of him. Her transcendent experience in Sicily convinced her that Lino doesn’t need to be physically reminded of her. She realizes this and decides to throw her locket above the fields of Sicily. Lino is then thanked for leading her to this location, as it was the only place where she could find the closure she needed.
Amy’s family expands in size and quality after Lino meets her. Lino is the link to all of their family’s struggles. This is the power and potential of a healthy relationship. It has helped everyone to weed out those traits that have made their families distant.
Amy realizes that their love is rooted in Lino’s love for them and feels ready to move on. She blows out the ashes and whispers, “You’re back!”
From Scratch Season 2 Release date

Netflix and the creators have not yet confirmed that “From Scratch” will be returning for a second season. It is unlikely that the show will be renewed for another season because it is a limited series. Fans will be looking forward to the renewal if it happens. It’s unlikely that the show will be renewed, despite being based on an independent memoir, and due to its sadly unresolved storyline.
We can assume that Season 2 will be released, given the success of the first season. The second season is expected to release sometime in 2023.
From Scratch Season 2 Cast?

If From Scratch were to return for a second season, Zoe Saldana would be back to play Amy. Hopefully, Danielle Deadwyler (“Zora”), Judith Scott (“Maxine”), and Kellita Smith (“Lynn”) would all be back in their roles.
Eugenio Mastrandrea, who plays Lino in the seventh episode, won’t be returning to the series. There is a possibility that he could return in flashback scenes.
It depends on whether the series returns or what time period it is set in. Isla Colbert won’t reprise her role of Idalia (Amy & Lino’s child) because she would be too young. A different actor could take the role to reflect a new age.
From Scratch Season 2 Plot

Based on the true story of Tembi Locke (and her husband Saro Gullo) who died in 2012 from leiomyosarcoma, a rare form, the series is inspired by their love story. Tembi wrote a memoir titled “From Scratch” in 2019 about their love story. This is the inspiration for this series. Season 1 of “From Scratch” featured Amy, who moved from Texas to Italy to study art.
Lino, an Italian chef, was a chance encounter that led to her falling in love with Lino. They decided to marry and had to make many sacrifices. They had to overcome many obstacles, but their love and oneness saw them through it all.
Tembi’s story is the inspiration for the show. There’s a possibility that a second season will be about what happened after Saro’s passing. Even though there have been minor adjustments, the show is largely faithful to Tembi’s stories. Entertainment Weekly reported that Attica had added a “northstar” to the project. This was a story about Amy and Lino growing up and having to deal with all the issues with their family.
She stated that Amy knew Idalia would be an integral part of the story when the pair returned to Sicily to meet Lino’s family. We knew that anything else could be fictionalized as long as it didn’t take us off the spine. She explained that by changing the names of characters, it allowed them to be the real people but could still move around the cabin in their own way.
Review Before Watching From Scratch Season 2

From Scratch is a Netflix limited series that was inspired by Tembi Locke’s memoir. This is the show for you if you’re looking to have a good laugh. We are sure to cry from the very first episode, when Amy is introduced (by the talented and beautiful Zoe Saldana). You will be weeping after this touching love story, so get a box of tissues!
Amy is a young woman visiting Italy to study art. We can’t fault her choice of Italy as her starting point. A Brown University undergraduate, she is on a sabbatical in order to see if she is truly able to become an artist. She has tried to ignore her passion for art her whole life.
She meets Lino, a handsome, hot chef played by Eugenio Mastrandrea. His passion for his work and delicious meals win her over. Some have suggested that she was attracted to the food first, but we’ll let you decide.
Soon, the couple realizes that their dreams lie in two places. Amy must leave L.A. for Amy’s dream. Lino decides to return to the US to pursue his dream of opening a restaurant. It isn’t easy to adapt and the couple face some challenges.

Their family is the first hurdle. Lino has a difficult time being close to his sister and mom because he isn’t on good terms and Lino doesn’t like his father. Amy’s family isn’t happy that she decided to leave law school to be with Lino. But, there are tense moments as well as heartbreak.
This series’ heart is Lino and Amy’s commitment to each other, for better or worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness or in health, and to love and cherish forever. Lino and Amy’s story begins like a fairytale set in the beautiful and stunning landscape of Italy. They grew together over the years and their love was strong enough to overcome family rifts and race differences.
Tembi Locke’s real-life experiences with her first husband are the basis of the story. You can feel the same emotions as she does throughout every moment. When she agreed to produce the show, Tembi shared intimate parts of her life with us. That was brave. You can see that this project is very different from romance stories you are used to, from how fleshed out the episodes to the details of each character.

The story is entertaining and intact throughout the eight episodes. Although there are some predictable moments and clichés, the story is well handled. It’s worth noting, too, that From Scratch is riveting because of the chemistry among the characters.
From Scratch is an emotional rollercoaster that takes you on a journey from beginning to end. It left us gasping for breath and in tears, but it was worth it. Don’t skip it if you think so!
Where can I watch From Scratch Season 2?
