Girls5eva Season 3 . Although it’s not clear if the girl group will reunite for another season, here’s what we know so far about the next season of Peacock’s sitcom, Girls5Eva.
Although the show isn’t an Emmy-winning success, it did receive a writing nomination! It has a strong fan base with clout. You can’t deny Sara Bareilles, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Busy Philipps another season, if that’s what their hearts desire. We wish them well.
Girls5eva Season One and Two Preview
You now know what you are getting when you jump into a comedy by Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” Robert Carlock): A spunky main character and an eccentric group of people, all set in an alternate universe, where hit songs and name brand items from our world are just off the mark. The first season of ” Girls5Eva” fulfilled that promise, presenting a reunited ’90s girl group with dysfunctional relationships and — another hallmark of Fey/Carlock concepts – an undercurrent of darkness. The showrunner Meredith Scardino ensures that this darkness bleeds into season 2. This is a world in which Britney Spears is no longer free and where the horrors of how women artists were treated in the ’90s and ’00s is a reality.
After a rapper samples their song, Dawn (Sara Bareilles), Wickie (Rene Elise Goldsberry), Summer (Busy Phillips), and Gloria (Paula Pell), find themselves back in the spotlight for the second season. They decide to bring the group back together after being invited to perform on “Tonight Show.” The group is forced to make this decision again because they were being controlled by the characters from their past. They wanted to give them songs, produce their music, and tell them how to act and post. It’s basically the same thing as any woman working in the music industry but much more fun.
Season 2 resolves the drama by the group singing with Property Records. Property Brothers is the label. Dawn serves as the group’s songwriter. Wickie, who is desperately in need of all the attention, solos on the album. The studio arc is interesting. Ray ( Pieter Marek), a kind-hearted producer, is introduced by the show. Dawn is determined to take control of everything and pushes back against him. This creates a consistent theme throughout the season, where the women face a system instead of facing it. This approach ignores the problem of how few women are producing records and why so many female artists prefer to work with male producers.
Side plots throughout the season, including Summer’s divorce and Gloria’s reunion (and general a**holery), Dawn’s control-freak tendencies and Wickie’s ugly foot saga, are more funny than any musical performance of Girls5Eva. It feels like “Girls5Eva”, unlike other workplace comedies from this producer group, is full of missed opportunities. They are still funny, and reach maximum absurdity. There are some great zingers and references. Highlights include a joke about L.A., former Arista Records boss and judge on “The X Factor”. Reid, and one hilarious joke about the stupidity of Jive Records (home to Britney, Backstreet, NSYNC, and all the greats).
The show continues to be a success in guest spots. Tim Meadows (a.k.a. Tim Meadows (a.k.a. Mario Cantone (” and Just Like That,” “Sex & the City”) is the best, Wickie’s nemesis. He was the only person to ever beat her singing. It’s almost enough to believe that the show has jumped to another dimension because of his incredulity at the circumstances and the way they appear in a hyperrealistic New York City.
However, “Girls5Eva” keeps pointing out serious problems in the modern music industry but doesn’t address them. It would be more sensible to embrace the absurdity of “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” but the show insists on a grounded Dawn. Or maybe Bareilles’ perceived normalcy takes that off the table. “Girls5Eva” has to make a decision. It can either commit to the part and continue to go off the rails with Wickie or find other ways to combine comedy with the urgent issues facing female artists today.
Girls5eva Season 3 Release Date?
Peacock’s Girls5eva wrapped its second season in June. The Emmy-nominated musical comedy follows the rise of a girl group from the 1990s. It also features women who balance spouses, kids, jobs, and debt while trying to achieve their pop star dreams. Although Girls5eva has not yet been renewed by Peacock, star Sara Bareilles said to Bustle last May the show’s feel-good nature is just what we need.
The Grammy winner shared that she was grateful for the “catharsis” of laughter and couldn’t believe her luck of being able to write comedy after experiencing so much loss and grief during the pandemic. It’s great to see women take a big swing, even though it won’t go as planned.

Peacock revealed the Season 2 renewal mid-June 2021. This was about a month after all episodes had been dropped. So another announcement could come this summer. It’s not clear what the future holds for the group, but here’s all we know so far about Girls5eva Season 3.
The Girls5eva Season Three Cast
Bareilles will be joined by her fellow members Renee Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps (Summer), and Paula Pell (Gloria) for the Girls5eva cast. Philipps said that all of us are women of a certain age who have seen it all, done it all, and been there for all of it.” This was in May’s Vanity Fair interview. “We know all the horrors of it. We are incredibly and incredibly fortunate to be where they are. We don’t want to forget this for a second.”
Pell recently gushed more about her role in the series. She called her co-stars “the dream girls I work with” and posted an Instagram caption to June 5 describing it. She said, “I love this series and hope it fills you with some much-needed joy.”
Season 2 saw several returning and new guest actors such as Daniel Breaker and Andrew Rannells, Ashley Park and Jonathan Hadary. If the show is renewed, Season 3 could feature a mixture of familiar and new characters.
The Girls5eva Season Three Plot
After being given six weeks to record and write the entire project, Season 2 saw the women go into “album mode.” The culmination of this difficult journey was a great launch pad for Season 3. However, specific stories are not likely to be written anytime soon. Vanity Fair reports that unlike other TV shows, the Meredith Scardino-created Girl5eva, which Tina Fey produces, along with Jeff Richmond and Robert Carlock is being written as it’s being shot. The cast usually has only a few hours to learn music, lyrics and choreography for each number. Heidi Gutman/Peacock
Gloria teased that Ashley may have faked her death in Season 1, but the latest episode revealed that Ashley’s fifth member died in an infinity pool accident. There will be more Ashley flashbacks in Season 3 — and the possibility for lots more musical earworms from her four remaining bandmates.
The Girls5eva Season Three Premiere Date
Peacock had premiered all eight Girls5eva Season 1 Episodes in May 2021. The streaming service then switched to Season 2 one year later and began releasing weekly episodes. Season 3 is likely to premiere in May 2023, considering that both episodes aired in May.
