What’s the plot of Gotham PD?

Although there isn’t much information yet about the actual storylines, we have seen several reports over the past 18 months. Variety reported in July 2020 that Terrence Winter (Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire) and Matt Reeves, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, were working together to create a TV series that would link into the new Batman movie Reeves is currently producing. This idea appears to be expanding DC’s universe on multiple platforms.
Matt Reeves stated at the time that it was an incredible opportunity to not only expand my vision of the world in the film but also to explore it with the depth and detail only a longform format could afford. Working with Terence Winter, who has written so powerfully and insightfully about the worlds of corruption and crime, was an absolute dream.
Gotham’s corrupt police department will be the setting. Jim Gordon is brought in to clean up Gotham’s corrupt police department and deal with the growing crime problem. The timeline is confusing, however, FlickeringMyth reports that the movie will document Batman’s second year as Gotham City’s hero, but the series will focus on his first outings.

Reeves, DC FanDome stated that “The Gotham PD Series will look into the corruption in the Gotham Police Department.” “It goes back in Batman Year One…we will see these characters from an angle we have never seen before.”
The emphasis is on Gordon, which is dangerously close to the recent Gotham series. However, the fact that Batman is actually active and not a child opens up interesting possibilities for villain origin stories, worldbuilding, and other creative possibilities.
However, things have changed somewhat recently with Winter leaving the show citing creative differences. Slashfilm reported that Joe Barton, a British screenwriter (Giri/Haji. iBoy. Extinction) had taken over the job as showrunner.
Slashfilm also discusses the possibility that Gotham PD could draw a lot from Gotham Central, the DC comic series that follows Jim Gordon’s efforts to reform the city’s police force.
Ed Brubaker was one of the creators of the comic. He appeared on the Kevin Smith & Marc Bernadin podcast Fatman Beyond and said that he thought they might make Gotham Central. I then reached out to Matt Reeves’ producer and he told me that it wasn’t Gotham Central. They aren’t calling it Gotham Central, and it’s more like a spinoff of the movie. It’s almost like the James Gordon Show.”
Who is the Gotham PD cast and crew?

No actors have been confirmed for any of the roles on the TV series. This is an indicator of how far the production is. Jeffrey Wright could reprise his role as Jim Gordon, which he was originally set to portray in The Batman movie. It’s possible that other characters from the film could be played by the same actors in the TV/movie crossover.
This is why we may see any of these listed on or IMDB as the stars of the movie.
- Robert Pattinson – Batman / Bruce Wayne
- Zoe Kravitz – Catwoman / Selena Kyle
- Andy Serkis – Alfred Pennyworth
- Colin Farrell – Penguin / Oswald Cobblepot
