His Dark Materials Season 3 is based upon the third and last book in Pullman’s trilogy, The Amber Spyglass. Lyra is being hunted by the Magisterium because she’s been ordered to die by the Theocracy so that humanity doesn’t fall into the same trap as Eve and Adam’s original sin. This is all set against the backdrop of Asriel’s battle with the forces of heaven. There’s a lot at stake. This is all without mentioning Lyra and Will Parry’s journey to the World of the Dead in search of Roger.

That is probably what the Season 2 post credits scene was hinting at. James McAvoy teased war in the future when he spoke to the One Show about Season 3. “What can you tell me? McAvoy stated that it was war. McAvoy explained to The One Show that at the end of season two, we kind of declare war against the Kingdom of Heaven. So yeah, it gets down and dirty and there will be lots of fisticuffs, a lot of explosives, and all that stuff.

It’s really about a little girl and a little boy… not adults with egos.” Phillip Pullman has also written The Book of Dust, a prequel trilogy that could be easily made into a series. Sian Clifford (Fleabag) and Jonathan Aris (Good Omens) will be joining season 3 as Commander Roke and Agent Salmakia respectively. In the last Pullman book, they are known as ‘Gallivespian spy spies’. We may also see Roger (Lewin Lloyd), Lyra’s friend from season 1.
