House Of The Dragon Episode 8. House of the Dragon is an American TV series created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal and has been running since August 21, 2022, on HBO. It is a prequel series to 2011’s Game of Thrones and an adaptation of the novel Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin. This series takes place 172 years prior to the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. It recounts the events leading up to a civil war, The Dance of the Dragons, which led to the destruction of the dragons and the beginning of the fall of House Targaryen.

Review of House Of Dragon Episode 7

House of the Dragon’s seventh episode reveals Westeros moving uncontrollably towards what shall be a bloody conflict. Still, the series’ body count is relatively low. The episode’s only on-screen death, that of the unnamed man whose neck was broken in a complex gambit to fake Ser Laenor (John Macmillan’s) death, is an ideal example of the episode’s obsession with social rituals as a means of hiding and revealing truth.

Laena’s funeral offers her uncle an opportunity to attack Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) over her sons’ parentage. Rhaenyra’s secret marriage with her uncle Daemon (Matt Smith) serves to boost her status as a ruthless player of power. Ser Laenor’s duel against his lover Qarl (“Arty Froushan”) provides cover for their bittersweet escape from the bloody power games at the royal court. People are subverting the ceremonies and rituals that unite Westeros residents into one society everywhere they go.

It’s a miracle that the episode can keep so many plates in the air concurrently while slowing down after last week’s frantic pace. Still, director Miguel Sapochnik & writer Sara Hess manage it with ease. “Driftmark” is a simple, slick production. It moves effortlessly from the somber and politically charged opening scene to the disturbing and darkly majestic claiming of Vhagar by the young prince Aemond. The setting of “Driftmark”, House Velaryon’s maritime seat, where royal relations have gathered to grieve, gives the entire affair a Gothic feel.

Also, the return of cadaverous Rhys Ifans, Otto Hightower and Hand of the King, adds a touch of Gothic to the proceedings. It’s reminiscent of The Masque of the Red Death. These inbred nobles are scheming and trying to cheat, as they duel in their distant palace, as the realm is on the edge of the abyss.

Clues For Impending Death

It’s said in the trailer that Otto Hightower stands instead of the king before the Iron Throne and declares that he’s speaking for him. That’s what we understand. Viserys I is in critical condition. He’s far too weak to play his role. He doesn’t even appear in the trailer. In addition, Alicent and Rhaenyra’s children have grown up and are more than ever ready to take on the battle. In order to better match the time, we’ll see the characters changing over the course of the film.

We’ll find the characters changing over time, with a view to better correspond with the temporality. Perhaps at episode 8’s beginning, or 9. The ninth and final episode, “The Green Council”, is vital. George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood focuses on the council of Green Clan members that takes place shortly after King Viserys I’s death. It’s difficult to imagine the showrunners not following this vital advice, regardless that they’ve made some errors in relation to the chronology.

War Is At The Gates Of Westeros

Rhaenyra is the first to overtly pronounce the term “the Greens” in the House of the Dragon series. Still, the color is becoming more prominent on the ornaments of the crystallized clan that surround Alicent Hightower (and her 3 children). That is significant because it prefigures the conflict of succession to the Iron Throne, which is currently cannibalizing Targaryen’s house and will soon take it down.

The conflict that has been teased from the very beginning of the series, but which has never been as close, is about to start. That is what OCS’s trailer for episode 8 suggests. Many shots suggest that the king is about to die. It will officially mark the start of the Dance of the Dragon.
