Made For Love. Many of us have been in toxic relationships or broken up. We’ve all seen it in movies, social media, and real life. Few of us have ever dated billionaires who have access to brain-analysis and human-tracking technology. The series, which is based on Alissa Nutting’s novel Made for Love, explores the dark side of technology and marriage.
Christina Lee is the co-showrunner with Nutting. Ray Romano stars alongside Cristin Milioti and Billy Magnussen. Season 2 sees Hazel Green (Milioti) return to her abusive billionaire husband Byron Gogol, after she escapes “The Hub” (Season 1). After revealing her father’s cancer, Hazel agrees that she will return to Gogol and promises to take him to his top-class facility.
What is the context of Made for Love?
Made For Love is based on the novel of the same name by Alissa Nutting. Nutting’s novel uses technology as a lens to critique love, marriage, and divorce. While the series and the book share many key similarities, this isn’t an exact replica, and how the two converge and diverge in Season 2 remains to be seen.
Made For Love Season 2 will be helmed by showrunners Christina Lee and Alissa Nutting and is executive produced by Lee, Nutting, Patrick Somerville, Dean Bakopoulos, Liza Chasin, Daisy Mayer and SJ Clarkson. Made for Love is a Paramount Television Studios production.
Who are the cast members of Made for Love Season 2?
Cristin Milioti plays Hazel Green. Milioti, an internationally acclaimed stage actress, was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress In a Musical. She also won the 2013 Grammy Award For Best Musical Theater Album for Once. She is perhaps best known for her role as the long-awaited “Mother,” Tracy McConnell on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Nannette Cole was also her role in “USS Callister”, an episode of the dystopian sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror. Milioti and Jesse Plemons starred in the episode. It won four Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding TV Movie, Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special. Milioti was also nominated for three additional Emmys. Milioti’s role as star in Made For Love was likely influenced by the episode’s dystopian content and nature.
Billy Magnussen is back as Byron Gogol. He’s a manipulative, obsessive tech billionaire who traps and entraps his wife for many years. This role could be easily dismissed as a mere footnote. It is a stereotypical portrayal of a toxic, masculine abuser who reads more like an image than a person. Magnussen brings to Gogol a unique combination of vulnerability, manipulation and control that makes him a formidable character. Christina Lee, the showrunner for Magnussen, notes that “he brought so much vulnerability into the character that it was necessary to rewrite this role.”
Ray Romano reprises his role of Herbert Green, Hazel’s lonely father. Herbert can be described as cold. His wife Diane, who is also a sex doll, is one of his few loves. Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond), is well-known for his street sarcasm, and brings his charming yet funny delivery style to the role. Romano is a refreshing choice for the role, and it’s great to see him perform his comedy skills in such a unique setting.
Herringbone (Dan Bakkedahl), Fiffany (Noma Dumezweni), Judiff and Liver (Augusto Aguilera) are other key characters returning. Jay (Sarunas Jackson) will be back and promoted to series regular in season 2. Angela Lin, Patti Harrison and Chris Diamantopoulos were also added to the series as recurring characters. Paula Abdul, 90s star, is joining the show’s second season as a guest star.

What is the plot of Made for Love Season 2?
Based on the novel by Alissa Nutting, Season 1 of Made for Love follows Hazel Green (Cristin Milioti) as she navigates her emancipation from her toxic marriage to insufferable tech billionaire Byron Gogol (Billy Magnussen). Hazel flees to her hometown to find her reclusive father after learning she’s been implanted with the “Made for Love” chip, a monitoring device that can track everything from her location to her emotional state. At the end of Season 1, Gogol approaches Hazel and reveals that her father has cancer. He offers to help her heal him on the condition that she returns to the Hub. In a shocking twist, she agrees, drugging her father so they can secretly transport him to the facility without his knowledge.
In Season 2, Hazel returned to the Hub and promised to take over her place during her father’s twelve weeks of treatment. She’s forced to defend the image of a supportive wife as Gogol battles legal troubles and an FBI investigation. Things aren’t as simple as they seem, as Gogol’s latest revolutionary technology threatens Hazel’s agency.
