Monsters at Work Season 1 Preview
Pixar’s animated series Monsters at Work was originally advertised as being set after the events in Monsters, Inc.. However, Season 1’s finale revealed that the series actually takes place during the events in the film. The series is set in a brief period after Henry Waternoose was arrested. However, the film skips ahead to when Mike and Sulley have completely transformed the company into a laughing machine. Although it was not clear how long had passed between Waternoose and his arrest, the first episode of the series took place.
Season 1’s finale sets up Monsters, Inc.’s ending in many ways, before finally catching viewers up and showing the film from the perspective of Tylor Tuskmon and his MIFT team. It sets up the film in the most obvious way by the company gaining enough laugh power to keep the doors open. This allows them to collect laughs and not screams. The Scare Floor is now known as the Laugh Floor, which can be seen in Monsters, Inc.‘s end.
The MIFT crew’s innovative ideas were crucial in enabling the Laugh Floor to transform. The monsters are trying to get enough laugh energy to keep it open when they discover that they have run out of scream canisters. The MIFT crew discovers a new invention: a Tylor-designed extra-large canister. The canister is attached to the door and allows them to gather far more energy than before.
The company adopts these laugh canisters widely, as shown in the end of Monsters, Inc. and the episode’s ending. The Jokesters might not have been able to collect enough laughter energy without the canisters. Tylor and the MIFT crew saved the company.
The Season 1 finale of Monsters at Work sets up Monsters, Inc. ends in a subtler way than other endings. It mentions Boo. Sulley tells Tylor that he saw fear in Tylor’s eyes when he scared them and that is what made him stop scaring children anymore. Sulley mentions that he still loves Boo, and is using their memories to motivate him.
Monsters at Work was the first season of Monsters at Work. It introduced viewers to the people who keep the factory in operation and showed them the less glamorous side. The series showed how the company went from being a screaming machine to a laughing one without the help of the facilities teams. The finale ends with Monsters. Tylor and the MIFT teams have saved the company. They also helped usher in a new chapter, the Laugh Floor.
