Josh and his date decide to go on a Zoom Date after dinner. However, things turn awkward. Josh and his date have no chemistry, and Josh reverts to his judgmental ways. Although he claims not to be, he does turn his nose up when she mentions that she listens to the radio.
The conversation moves to their parents and their “thing” in moving to the US. Although it takes some time, Josh finally warms up to the girl and shares his passion about the children he teaches. This is the moment that sparks fly. This is when the two of you finally connect.
Josh and Emily talk about Zoom, getting in bed and the awkwardness of first dates. Josh falls asleep and Emily wakes him up by sending a text message about breakfast.
Josh’s inability to complete tasks is brought up by Emily. Their conversation ends abruptly. Josh is a short-tempered, negative person and leaves Emily a voicemail apologizing for his inability to finish things and admitting that they like each other.
Josh reaffirms his musical roots and records a variety of sounds. He also makes an effort to be more connected with his family. This montage includes a few clips from Emily. It seems that she has been the catalyst for Josh to open up. He takes a deep breath as the episode ends.
The finale is pretty much the end. It seems Josh has realized the errors of his ways and is now ready to live life to its fullest. Is he really seeing the error of his ways? Is it the high he gets from his infatuation with Emily? Is he going to revert back to self-loathing?
As we’ve seen, Josh is judgmental and self-loathing. So what’s stopping him from reverting to the same attitude in this reality? Although the final shot seems to suggest that he is ready to live his own life, we are left with an open interpretation.
Episode Review
Although Mr. Corman’s exit is a satisfying one, it was hard work. The show has had its share of fantastical cartoon worlds and boring episodes that do little to advance the plot. Mr. Corman can be a chore at times.
It’s not funny, and it is certainly not a comedy. This show lacks drama to make it a thrilling romp. It’s somewhere in the middle, somewhere between them.
While Josh’s failed dreams will be a hit with many people, his self-loathing attitude, judgmental attitude, and inability to follow through make him difficult to sell until this episode. He’s shown very little growth throughout the season, and even a last-minute 180 is not going to convince him that he has actually made a positive change.
The show that Mr. Corman put on was not one to be remembered. It was a slow, tedious crawl through a river full of syrup and tar. It was hard-going, and the end result is certainly not worth the effort.
