Nancy Drew Before Season 4

Before approaching Nancy Drew Season 4, let us make a small summary of

What is Nancy Drew’s story?

Nancy Drew, a high school graduate, plans to go to college. However, Nancy is enticed by a paranormal investigation into a murder.

Nancy Drew’s Season 3 Ending Explained

There has been no better time to launch Nancy Drew the series. And boy, does the Season 3 finale “The Ransom of the Forsaken Soul” deliver. This episode is full of emotion from beginning to end. While this episode focuses on finishing important character arcs and reminding us why Ace (Alex Saxon) makes a great boyfriend, there is plenty of other stuff happening, and it happens fast. What was real? What state did the Drew Crew leave us in?

Nancy vs. Temperance

After Ace’s big reveal, the Drew Crew assembles to save Ace’s life. They pretend to have a truce with Temperance (Olivia Taylor Dudley), while Ryan (Riley Smith) pursues an ax which can kill witches. Their plan seemed to work until they discover a Copperhead dead and some frozen hearts missing. All of this comes to an abrupt halt at the Youth Center, where Ryan throws his axe at Temperance in a last ditch effort. However, Nancy (Kennedy McMann) is able to kill her.

Ryan is killed by a fragment of the magical ax that he had accidentally ingested. Nancy blames herself and spends the following month alone. Ace finally helps her reconnect with Ace and they begin to feel more connected. This leads to a beautiful, intimate intimacy. Their happiness lasts for a moment before Ace passes away in Nancy’s arms.

Nancy’s Dreamscape

Nancy's Dreamscape

Temperance, however, reveals that it was all a dream because of a failsafe Temperance implanted into Nancy’s brain earlier in the season. Nancy is just seconds away from her ancestor’s death, so nothing since her death is actually real. The fabrication is yet another of Temperance’s prophecies. Nancy was cursed by her to kill Temperance if they ever had a relationship.

Nancy feels the need to protect Temperance from her feelings for Ace, and makes a gut decision not to kill her. Temperance manages to open the veil, so she calls her friends and beckons them to run. As destruction sweeps through the city, a huge tidal flood begins to hit. But Nancy’s selfless nature wins. As she kills Temperance, she sacrifices her future with Ace.

A Second Chance

Temperance’s prophecy helps Nancy save Ryan even though she cannot strike up a romantic relationship with Ace. Due to Horseshoe Bay’s reactions, things turn out differently for Ace. Bess (Maddison Jaizani), becomes the Keeper for the historical society. Nick (Tunji Kasim), who stays in Horseshoe Bay with his parents, sells George’s ring George (Leah Lewis). George then begins studying law. The Drew Crew each follow their own paths.

Ace is a follower and tries to be Nancy’s proud boyfriend. But Ace doesn’t get why she’s not understanding. When she discovers he has quit at The Claw, she confronts him and they almost kiss. Then, his barometer suddenly breaks just like it did in Nancy’s dreamscape. He lies to her about their feelings and the situation.

Nancy Drew Investigations is set up in Temperance’s Icarus Hall. She is mostly alone and seeks out advice from Carson (Scott Wolf). But Ace and Nancy fans will agree that Carson gave some good advice. Although his advice is essentially “choose your own path”, it was a bit too fast to start talking about second soulmates when Nancy hasn’t been with her first.

The season finale also confirms that Temperance’s prophecies earlier this season were true. Nick left what was most important to him (George), George cheated on Nancy (Nick), Ace lost her heart (Nancy), and Bess caused havoc at Horseshoe Bay using her truth potion. Depending on your perspective, Ace was Nancy’s end, or vice versa.

Ryan’s prophecy is the only one that has not been revealed. Ryan was forced to go to the Historical Society by the couple that gave him the axe. Season 4 could explore what this might mean for the rest of us? Could this be The Road Back’s return? Nancy Drew ends with this and looks forward to a renewed hope with the next mystery’s arrival – a bunch of missing corpses in the cemetery (and an offscreen appearance from Kegstand).

REVIEW Before Watching Nancy Drew Season 4

The third season of Nancy Drew sees The Drew Crew: Nancy (Kennedy McMann), George, The Half of it), Bess (Maddison Jaizani), Nick and Ace – as they solve mysteries and battle supernatural beings. Following the events of season 2, Nancy’s ancestor Temperance, (Bo Martynowska/Olivia Taylor Dudley), arrives at Horseshoe Bay and claims she doesn’t mean any harm. Instead, she saves the group from an evil masked man. The body of a man with his heart removed from his chest is found. Detectives are now on the lookout for a serial killer, dubbed “the frozen hearts killer”.

Nancy teams up with John Harlam Kim, FBI Agent and attempts to find the clues that link the deaths to other murders committed in the past. Nancy is forced to reluctantly join Temperance who has a greater stake than the first case. Temperance’s daughter Charity, (Olivia Taylor Dudley), saw her soul divided into four and transferred into four mortal men. This process has been passed down through each generation to the present. Nancy must find the remaining ancestors to save Charity before they are too late. Will she be able to save the day? Or is this too complicated for Horseshoe Bay’s resident girl detective, Nancy?

Season 3 was a continuation of the first season. The 13-episode season featured a long-running mystery with the Drew Crew solving the Frozen Hearts case. The show was more of a ghost of the week format last year. I enjoyed the season arc plot, especially because it had a shorter season. The season featured one case, which allowed for a full-fledged mystery, many suspects, and many twists and turns. The supernatural elements were reduced, which allowed for a more realistic case. While the team was still hunting an entity, much of the action was still related to real people. This allowed for the perfect blend of fantasy and reality.

Temperance was an interesting addition to the show. She played both a villainous and supporting role depending on the episode. Although she wasn’t always the Drew Crew’s villain, you had to be cautious of Temperance. Even when she offered help, it was in suspicious circumstances. Temperance is the first long-term villain on the show. Seasons 1 and 2 have more of a villains of the week format. Unless you include Everett Hudson, Temperance is much scarier than either of them. Both Temperance’s performances were great. I loved the way you could never know where you were with her character.

Nancy Drew, in all her forms, is known for being an amazing girl detective. She often solves most of her crimes alone. What I love about this version is that everyone gets to be a sleuth. Although Nick/Ned and George have been around nearly as long as Nancy, they are mostly comic relief or emotional support. Nancy and her friends are more or less on equal footing, with each member of Drew Crew bringing a different perspective to the table. Nancy is amazing, but Bess also has a lot of knowledge about the history and current affairs of the town. Ace has computer skills and George can read and connect with people in ways Nancy cannot. Nick is the calmest and most focused in crisis situations. Each person brings something different to the show, so it’s not Nancy alone solving these cases. It really is a team effort.

Even though it is not a mainstay of the show, Nancy Drew’s romance is always a pleasant touch. This is especially because Nancy has chemistry with everyone she meets. As a long-term ‘Nace’ shipper, I loved this season’s development between Nancy Drew and Ace. It was great to see them finally admit their feelings towards one another even though it ended in tragedy. Temperance’s curse will definitely cause more fury, but I look forward to them finally getting together. It’s hard to deny that Nancy and Tamura had great chemistry in season 2. The girl detective has a lot of great matches. It was also nice to see Bess with Addy (Rachel Colwell), as well as Carson (Erica Cerra). While the mystery may be the main focus of the show, I enjoy exploring the characters’ social and romantic lives.

Overall, I enjoyed the third season of Nancy Drew. I enjoyed the show’s mystery plotline and decrease in supernatural elements. I hope we get more episodes (#renewnancydrew). I also like Nancy’s new investigation business. Temperance was an excellent season-long villain, and proved to be a formidable opponent for The Drew Crew. I loved her character. You never knew where you stood with her. Another fantastic season with Temperance, and I hope to see more episodes.
