Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 1 Preview
This season finale, true to noir style, is full of unhappy endings and cynical remarks about humanity. Magda (Natalie Dormer) plans to increase hate and division in the area, but she doesn’t intend on stopping until all of the world is at war. We examine the ending and what it could mean for Season 2.
Averting nuclear holocaust
One of the most prominent subplots in the series is Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane), who tries to stop the Nazis from purchasing Brian Koenig (Kyle McArthur). Brian’s mind had designed a rocket that would be very useful to the Germans during the war. But, on the car ride there we discover that Brian’s mind isn’t satisfied with that design. Brian has bigger plans. He wants to create a nuclear bomb. But he doesn’t think about the consequences. Although Brian has been kept safe from German hands, Lewis knows that he cannot allow a bomb similar to Brian’s to become a reality and kills himself. Although history has it that the bomb was built, Lewis believes that he only did so to protect the world from nuclear war.
Walls are the future of LA
Although things haven’t been going Charlton Townsend’s (Michael Gladis’s) way, Magda organized the race riots in Rio. Townsend’s highway is immediately supported as a punishment for Hispanics, despite the fact that public opinion has turned against it. Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) realizes that this is only the beginning of the divisiveness in Los Angeles. Highways like these only divide white, wealthy communities from ethnic ones. The illusion of progress also comes at the expense of citywide division. This is a politically relevant statement, and Tiago stares down at the camera, declaring, clearly, that “This Is Not the United States of America.”
To be, not to have, a sister
In this episode, Molly Finnister (Kerry Bishe) reveals that her mother lost four of her sisters before she was born. She also explains that she has lived a lonely life because she longs for a sister. Molly discovers the extent to which her mother went to protect Sister Molly’s existence and realizes that there is no escape. Any attempt to leave her life puts those in love in danger. Adelaide Finnister (Amy Madigan) was responsible for Molly’s death, as well as the deaths of all the Haslet family members. Molly, feeling trapped, decides to drown herself in the Temple’s baptismal pool.
Santa Muerte (Lorenza Izzo) welcomes Molly as an equal and allows Molly to fall into death’s arms quite literally. Santa Muerte, Lorenza Izzo, recognizes Molly as a religious figure. It could be a moment of compassion or a genuine recognition of a friend. Molly is embraced by Santa Muerte in her final moments.
Magda wins
It became clear that Magda has a singular goal: to spread hatred and division as widely as possible. Rio was the one who instigated the race riots in LA following Diego Lopez’s (Adan Rocha) lynching. She even killed Fly Rico (Sebastian Chacon) for his commitment to peace. Mateo Vega (Johnathan Nieves) appears to have no problem with this murder, as he joins Rio in leading the Pachukos to a war against hate. Alex’s guidance of Townsend helped him to build a highway through the Vegas town, forcing them to the margins. Elsa managed to convince Peter Craft (Rory Kinnear) that the only way to protect his family is to embrace Nazism’s hateful ways through the use of race riots.
The show is only the beginning of something bigger, and it’s set right before World War II starts. Tiago visits her and speaks about the coming war. She asks Tiago if he is ready, as Tiago is Santa Muerte’s favorite. Tiago doesn’t either see Magda or doesn’t acknowledge her. Either way, he doesn’t respond. Tiago will have to do all he can to save his family from World War II. For now, Magda seems to be able to get everything she wants.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 2 Release Date?
Showtime officially canceled Penny Dreadful on August 21. This means that season 2 will not be taking place. This is not surprising considering the numerous criticisms and muted fan response. Showtime had hoped City of Angels would be as long-lasting as its predecessor, but this is not the case. The cancellation was not explained and it is unclear if Coronavirus belt-tightening was a factor.
Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels Season II Cast
Although the finale of Penny Dreadful City of Angels featured some significant character deaths, the majority of the principal cast would have been likely to return as their story arcs were still in progress. If City of Angels was renewed, the main cast members who would have likely returned for season 2 include Natalie Dormer and Nathan Lane, Daniel Zovatto. Jessica Garza, Adam Rodriguez. Johnathan Nieves. Rory Kinnear.
Penny Dreadful: City Of Angels Season 2 Story Details
There were many plots left to resolve after the finale of season 10, “Day of the Dead”. Magda (Dormer), three forms – Alex, Rio and Elsa – were becoming more integral in their respective avenues. Elsa had moved in with Dr. Craft (Kinnear). He was manipulated to take a harderline stance in support of the Nazi Party members in Los Angeles. Rio, who had murdered Fly Rico, helped Mateo (Nieves) become leader of the pachucos and was interested in perpetuating a bloody uprising. Alex continued to work in the city government thanks to her relationship with Charlton Townsend (Gladis).
The Vega family was still the main focus of the conflict. Magda teased Tiago (Zovatto) in the end about a prophecy that was first mentioned in episode 1. It’s possible that Magda would have lost Tiago, as Santa Muerte (Izzo) had marked him as a boy. Season 1 of The Penny Dreadful: City of Angels felt like it was laying the foundation for future seasons. Unfortunately for fans, however, this story ended too soon.
