Before starting, we will provide a little reminder of the previous season.
Rilakkuma and Kaoru Recap

In the first episode of Netflix’s Rilakkuma & Kaoru, the stop-motion anime’s human protagonist looks forward to going to her annual picnic with her friends. She has to first get through her boring job and make sure her plush bears have lunch.
Rilakkuma, Kaoru are based on the same stationery character. It’s a simple story about a year in a woman’s life. Two of her roommates are bears (Rilakkuma the big brown one, Korilakkuma the smaller one), and one is a pet chick called Kiirotori. The show is told in a warm, intimate stop-motion style that adds warmth and delight. The show is more than cute. It has a lot of emotional impact.
It is adorable, to be honest. Both in the English dub as well as the Japanese original, the bears (and Kiiroitori) communicate with each other through small chirps and coos. This makes them even more charming. We don’t know where the bears came from. They just show up in Kaoru’s apartment, much like their backstory of a stationery empire. They are there, and no one questions their existence. Animals interact with people and even get jobs, all without anyone really paying a lot of attention.

The show’s greatest asset is not just its whimsical animals, although they are definitely a delight. The show’s juxtaposition of the absurd and the everyday is what makes it stand out. Although Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma’s lavish designs make it seem like the show is directed at children, Kaoru, a twentysomething woman, deals with the problems of twenty-something women.
Kaoru’s troubles may remind you of Aggretsuko, another Netflix anime that is based on a cute stationery character. The key difference between Rilakkuma & Kaoru is that Retsuko’s conflicts are external and she channels them through her rage. Kaoru, on the other hand, struggles with internal conflict and turns inward to resolve it.
She is stuck in a job she doesn’t like, her closest friends have found success and love, and she feels unworthy. It’s not hard to see how overwhelming her depression can be. One scene shows her feeling lonely and imagining herself sinking into an endless, dark hole.

Kaoru helps the animals as much as she does. She takes care of them. They remind her of the good things in her life and encourage her to be open to new possibilities, no matter what they may be. In the third episode, Kaoru, who is feeling depressed, resolves to purchase a new umbrella. Although it is a small step for Kaoru, this is a significant one that she can still do within her comfort zone.
The show isn’t without its conflicts, but the small arguments between Kaoru and the animals take a backseat as Kaoru struggles with her insecurities. Each episode’s biggest takeaway is packaged in a small text that is integrated into the show’s Japanese setting and translated on screen in subtitles. Even without these little adages, the warmth and affection of the characters is evident.
The world of Rilakkuma, Kaoru is made vivid by stop-motion animation. I am drawn in by the changing seasons. I can almost feel the summer heat and the sweet smell of rain. It’s a warm, intimate glimpse into one woman’s year-in-a-life, and her love for a few very adorable animals.

There’s a possibility that Rilakkuma or Kaoru Season 2 will not air. Because of their previous interest in anime, Netflix might decide to revive the series. Rilakkuma and Kaoru Plot

This stop-motion anime series tells the story of a woman who works hard and a bear who just wants to relax. Rilakkuma, who prefers to lay around all day, is completely opposite of Kaoru. This is not a negative thing. It is instead shown that rest is beneficial for the body and soul. Fans saw Kaoru’s struggle with continuous bad luck, and how her pet and another stuffed bear helped her. The whole season focuses on Kaoru’s bittersweet time with Rilakkuma and their relationship.
Review Before Watching Rilakkuma & Kaoru Season 2

Rilakkuma & Kaoru, based on the Japanese fictional character of the same title, is charming and beautifully presented animation. It’s also a great entry to Netflix’s stop motion collection. Each episode is broken down into 13 smaller episodes. They each have their own story and offer a visual treat with impressive animation. Each episode is a showcase of the art, whether it’s the water that looks so real or the reflections overhead.
This family-friendly series centers on Kaoru’s adventures with Rilakkuma, her roommate. Rilakkuma is a lazy, chubby bear who spends his days eating and lounging around. This adorable trio, along with his friends Korilakkuma and Kiiroitori, is the highlight of the show. Every scene that they appear in is a joy to watch. Every episode has a new challenge, with Rilakkuma being kidnapped, Kaoru being held up at a picnic and Kaoru taking on part-time jobs, and Kaoru trying to impress a deliveryman.
The story is not too detailed, but it does contain an overarching plot that ties everything together. Kaoru’s future in her apartment is under threat.

I have always loved stop-motion animation. Those who know me well will know that Kubo and The Two Strings is my favorite film to show how incredible this type of animation is. Rilakkuma & Kaoru, a faithful adaptation of the cult Japanese icon, is rich in authentic Japanese culture. It also rewards the Japanese.
It’s recommended that you watch this movie in Japanese, although I did switch on the English dubbing for my children to enjoy it with them. The animation is accessible and has a family-friendly tone. This animation is a beautiful blend of cuteness and animation. You owe this to your family.
