Selena: The Series Season 2 preview
Selena: How did the real Selena die?
Selena: The Series does an excellent job of revealing how Yolanda Saldivar, a former nurse, glommed onto Selena and later stole money from her. However, the show is very reluctant to depict Selena’s final moments. They were quite grim!
Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, Jr., began hearing complaints about the fan club Saldivar had managed for many years. This specific complaint was the result of months of complaints from Selena’s cousin Debra and Martin Gomez fashion co-designer about Saldivar running the boutiques.
Abraham quickly discovered that Yolanda had stolen more than $30,000 from Selena’s boutiques and fan club. She was then cut off from Abraham’s Q Productions and Selena’s ventures. Saldivar kept key documents that Selena needed to file taxes and financial filings. Selena was unable to believe Yolanda Saldivar was as clever as her father.

Selena offered to transport Saldivar to Corpus Christi to be treated for her claims that she was sexually assaulted in Monterrey. Although Saldivar was not a victim of sexual assault, it has been suggested that she didn’t show any signs. Selena became frustrated with Yolanda, believing that her friend was slowing down in giving over the financial documents.
Selena went with Saldivar to the Days Inn where she was staying, and it is believed that she demanded the missing documents. Saldivar pointed his gun at Selena and she attempted to flee. Yolanda Saldivar shot Selena Quintanilla-Perez in her lower right shoulder.
This is where things get a bit gruesome. You can skip this section. Selena was not struck in any major organs but the bullet did cut a key artery. Selena was able to run almost 400 feet from the room to the lobby of the motel, but she left behind a trail of blood.

In the Days Inn lobby she fell, but not before correctly identifying the hotel room and naming Yolanda Saldivar as the shooter. Selena Quintanilla Perez died from her injuries, despite doctors trying to save her. Namely, from blood loss and subsequent cardiac arrest.
Selena: The Series may have omitted the truth about Selena’s passing, but that’s probably because the circumstances were very upsetting. Selena’s sister co-produced the show and it appears that Selena’s family was reluctant to dramatize Selena’s final moments in all of their horror.
Yolanda Saldivar, who is still alive, is currently in prison at Mountain View Unit in Gatesville Texas serving a life sentence. She will be eligible for parole.
