Based on the bestseller Margaret Atwood‘s The Handmaid’s Tale, the story is set in a dystopian society that has gone totalitarian after the second American Civil War. This world has fertile women called “Handmaids”, and they are forced to have children for their male commanders (called Commanders). The story follows June Osborne, a Handmaid, who is assigned to Gilead Commander Fred Waterford’s home with Serena Joy, his wife, and key players in the rise of Gilead. June, however, resists the oppressive system and tries to free herself and her fellow women.
The Handmaid’s Tale, created by Bruce Miller, was produced by Nina Fiore and John Herrera, Kim Todd and Joseph Boccia, as well as Lisa Clapperton. It has been a huge success since its debut and has won numerous awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama.

Plotline of The Handmaid’s Tale

In an interview conducted by Mary Elizabeth Williams in April 2018, Amanda Brugel (Rita), stated that the book had a profound effect on her life before she was offered a role on “Salon.” Brugel described herself as the “lone Canadian” in the cast. She was a high-school student when Margaret Atwood’s novel was presented to her as a reading assignment. She later based many of her short stories on the book.
Later, she used the book to support her university application thesis. She was awarded a full scholarship. Brugel said that Rita, the character she plays on the show, was the main focal point of her application essay to the university.
Actresses commented that their head covers in public are like blinders, as they block them from seeing what is to their side or above. They will not be able to see each other if neither actress is looking directly at them. They must make decisions based on what they hear.
Margaret Atwood was involved in the script adaptation of her novel. It was published in 1985. Her main concern was to ensure that the vernacular was up-to-date after 32 years. Bruce Miller, the producer, stated that she was required by the scriptwriters to inquire about the meaning of the term.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Review
It’s a spectacular fifth season! The writing and acting were both outstanding. Although I don’t know how they will wrap this series up, I am certain that the audience will feel a sense of accomplishment. The scene between Louise and Thelma in season 5, episode 6 is FANTASTIC!
All of these actors are talented and captivating, but Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, and Bradley Whitfield stand out. Each actor is convincing and does a great job of bringing this frightening tale to life on the screen.
You won’t be disappointed if you watch it. It’s going to make me sad when it’s over. I look forward to the current uprising.
The real story is told in this show. It is easy to see how this could become a reality with the people in charge of our country.
