The Neighborhood Season 5 is an American comedy series that focuses on situation comedy. The series was created by Jim Reynolds. It debuted on CBS October 1, 2018. The story is about a family moving from the Midwest to Pasadena in California. What’s The Neighborhood Season 5 all about?

According to Deadline (opens in new tab), after season 4’s showrunner Meg DeLoatch left, the executives hired Mike Schiff and Bill Martin as co-showrunners. Martin and Schiff will reunite with Cedric the Entertainer. They worked together previously on The Soul Man.

Deadline asked Cedric the Entertainer about his reaction to the change in guard. He responded:

“Martin & Schiff are rocking with us on the fifth season of The Neighborhood. We were both on my program The Soul Man. We are a formidable trio on the world of sitcoms. I look forward to another hilarious, enjoyable season.”

The series will still be broadcast on the same channel. Viewers will need to tune in to check if there have been any changes.

Season 5’s most important storyline is about the possibility of a marriage. Season 4’s finale featured Marty (Marcel Spears), proposing to Necie (Chelsea Harris). If she agrees, it’s likely that the Butlers have a planned wedding. Given the mess that Calvin (Cedric the Entertainer) created with his proposal, it is possible that they shouldn’t be involved in any type of nuptials.

The Neighborhood Season 5 Release Date

CBS announced on January 19, 2019 that it had renewed the series and had made major changes. The premiere date for the series was September 23, 2019. For its third season, the series was renewed by May 2020. It premiered on November 16, 2020. For the fourth season, it was renewed in 2021. It premiered on September 20, 2021. For its fifth season, the series was renewed by ABC in January 2022. It will debut on September 19, 2022.

The Neighborhood Season 5 will air Mondays at 8/7c on CBS and Paramount+ after months of anticipation.

The Neighborhood Season 5 Plot

The next season will begin at the 22nd episode of Season 4, Welcome to the Ring. It will be free until May 23, 2022. Victor Gonzalez was the director, along with a script written by Dan Cross & David Hoge. The episode is expected to be seen by 5.91 million Americans. According to the official synopsis, Marty proposes to his girlfriend. Calvin and Tina team with Chika (a party organizer) to host a celebration that honors the Nigerian heritage of their daughter-in-law.

Marty suggests that Necie marry Marty. Marty reveals that Necie is from Nigeria. Chicka keeps the Butlers’ dowry item, a goat, as one of her dowries for Necie. All the other items are destroyed by the goat before Necie arrives.

Although this is a money-making move, Dave continues to do it as Marty rates Necie’s wedding band. Gemma still has the small ring he bought her in 2008, when she was poor. Gemma was surprised to discover a larger ring. Gemma is also shocked when he surprised her by wanting the older ring.

The fifth season is expected to reveal the complete plot in terms of relationships between characters. This will likely start at the end of the last episode. The tone and content of the previous episodes has set the scene for the fifth season. This will allow the story’s development and expansion in ways that will encourage viewers to keep watching.

The Neighborhood Season 5 Cast

Deadline reports Meg DeLoatch, the showrunner for The Neighborhood and decision-making producer, has resigned. After a new showrunner has been named, there are likely to be many changes within The Neighborhood’s writing staff. DeLoatch was the one who freed all of The Neighborhood’s Season 3 writers.

• Cedric the Entertainer, as Calvin Butler: Tina’s husband, Malcolm and Marty’s father. Calvin’s Pit Stop, an automobile repair shop, is owned by him. Gemma’s husband is Dave Johnson. Max Greenfield, however, is Max Greenfield. Grover is also his dad. He is a conflict mediator expert, a military veteran, and a graduate of Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo (Michigan).
• Tichina Arnold as Tina Butler, Marty and Calvin’s mother. She was an accomplished singer who ran the front desk at Calvin’s auto shop and now she runs her cupcake business.
• Gemma Johnson, Beth Behrs’ mom, is Gemma Johnson. The Johnson family is motivated to move to California by their new job as principal at an isolated Los Angeles school.
• Malcolm Butler’s Sheaun McKinney: Calvin and Tina’s older son. He was a former professional player in baseball. He made it through the minor leagues, and he ended his professional career. Marty offered him a job as a security guard at JPL in season 2. He was looking for stable employment. He is the hitting coach of the USC baseball team in season 4.
• Hank Greenspan as Grover Johnson: Dave & Gemma’s son who is an elementary school student.

We ask viewers to be patient, as they will be able to see if any new characters are added to the show. Fans should be vigilant in following any social media expansions over the next months.

This is not an easy idea. But there are many things that have gone wrong with “The Neighborhood.” This new CBS sitcom is about gentrification. Calvin (Cedric the Entertainer) doesn’t want Dave (“Max Greenfield”) to be his next-door neighbor. He fears that wealth-seeking whites will see an opportunity to “improve the neighborhood” and devastate everything the locals cherish. Dave is a good neighbor.

These characters and their problems are the series’ driving conflict and comedy. These dynamics don’t work through the four episodes. Jim Reynolds, the creator, was loosely inspired by Jim Reynolds’ real life. He makes too many negative resolutions for both sides, and doesn’t know how to make his stars shine.

A CBS sitcom is unlikely to have a nuanced conversation about urban planning and race relations. This is similar to “SNL” choosing tactics over fame when it hires guest stars. Most criminal is the misuse of Greenfield and Cedric.

Let’s begin with Dave, a proud Michigander and a professional mediator. He is cheerful and always smiling, and even bends his ears to tell his neighbors which Michigan lake is the most beautiful. (Surprise! Lake Superior isn’t No. 1.)

Dave is a stone-cold weirdo, with all the characteristics you would expect from a stone-cold nerd. But Greenfield is content to play Dave as a normal man. Greenfield is at his best when he can be eccentric. Greenfield is a funny straight man but his energy can be addictive. His reach is as wide as a block. Let him go!

This could make the show even more fun. Cedric’s scene makes the show great. Natural charisma can make all the difference, even with Cedric’s grumpy husband. However, the rest of the cast is just a little too bland. Gemma (Beth Behrs), and Tina Arnold, (Tichina Schwarz), do their best but are limited to supporting roles that lack character.

The humor in “The Neighborhood” isn’t funny enough. Calvin is not invited to Dave’s housewarming party. While he states, “Don’t go at the bar to throw darts,” the characters and the audience are all well aware. It is not obvious that writers are aware of it.

The Neighborhood is a wonderful sitcom that aims to discuss America’s changing attitudes. The CBS sitcom has broad jokes about annoying neighbors mixed with sharp commentary about America’s racial division. It follows in the footsteps of sitcoms like “Black-ish,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” or “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Dave is the bright, optimistic white guy who can see the best in others. Calvin on the other side is the quiet, grumpier type who has learned from his life experiences how to protect his family. Calvin has iron bars around the windows of his home, and Dave gives out his house key to anyone within his view from his porch.

This disconnect is clear enough in the first four episodes. It makes it easy to believe there are more episodes. Character dynamics are showing signs of improvement. It is possible that “The Neighborhood”, a sitcom about stars, will be a steady sitcom. The “Neighborhood” is more like an apartment complex than a sprawling villa.
