The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a computer-animated movie based on Nintendo’s Mario video game franchise, stars Chris Pratt as Mario. Illumination produced the film in association with Nintendo, and Universal Pictures distributed it. After the Japanese animated film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach (1986) and the American live-action movie Super Mario Bros. (1993), this is the third film adaptation of the Mario franchise.
From a screenplay written by Matthew Fogel, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic direct the film. Anya Taylor-Joy and Charlie Day are also part of the film’s ensemble voice cast. They are joined by Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Sebastian Maniscalco, Charles Martinet, and Kevin Michael Richardson. Nintendo refused to license its intellectual property for film adaptations after the 1993 film’s commercial and critical failure.
Shigeru Miyamoto, the Mario creator, became interested in creating another film after Nintendo began bringing older Nintendo games to the Virtual Console. Through Nintendo’s collaboration with Universal Parks & Resorts, he was able to meet Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination. In 2016, they were talking about a Mario movie. In January 2018, Nintendo announced it would be working with Universal and Illumination to produce it. Production began in 2020.

Super Mario Bros Release Date
Universal Pictures will release The Super Mario Bros. Movie in Germany first, on March 23, 2023. Then, it will move to France on March 28, 2023. Next, Universal Pictures will release the movie in Australia, New Zealand, and Central America on March 30, 2023. It will then be released in the United States on April 7, 2023.

Mario
The film would not exist without Mario, played by Chris Pratt. After falling through a pipe, the plumber-turned-hero embarks on a new adventure. Although many were worried that his design would be a bit strange, much like Sonic’s in the first Sonic the Hedgehog trailer, the animation makes it less obvious. He looks amazing. The biggest problem with the film and trailer is Mario’s vocal performance. This is a difficult situation because Mario doesn’t speak much in the video games, except for occasional “wahoo!” and “here we go!”. And when he does speak, it’s usually with an extremely stylized Italian accent. Pratt may be able to speak more naturally, which is a good thing considering the possibility of future sequels or spin-offs.
Luigi
Fans were thrilled to see Luigi briefly pop up in the teaser. Naturally, he is running from his enemies. Another case of perfect casting, as Charlie Day from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is voicing Mario’s scaredy-cat brother Luigi. It’s sure that this will be a hilarious portrayal, which could lead to a spin-off of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Luigi’s Mansion is his popular haunted house series. Many fans would love to see it make its way into the movie. Luigi has been seen running from zombielike Koopas and Dry Bones. They’d need Professor E. Gadd and the Boos to make his own spooky movie.
Toad
The Toads are the main inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom, as shown in the first teaser. Keegan-Michael Key is the voice of the main Toad. Key already sounds fantastic, and Key will bring a fun and engaging energy to the role due to his comedy background and Key & Peele character background. It’s possible that Key could be the voice of all the Toads, much like Dee Bradley Baker’s voice acting for all the Star Wars clones. It’s just an entertaining thought, but it could be true.
Bowser
Mario is the main character, but his arch-nemesis is the star of the trailer. Jack Black is playing Bowser, the King of the Koopas. There is a general consensus on Twitter that this is great casting. He sounds strong and intimidating, and his Illumination design is amazing and captivating. Bowser, portrayed by Jack Black, could be a funny villain thanks to these humorous memes. As the trailer already showed, he is not someone to be trusted. Mario will have to face a difficult road to prepare for his final boss battle. Bowser is surrounded by his army of Koopas, but hopefully he will not be alone. His children Bowser Jr., and the Koopalings could also appear.
Princess Peach
One glaring, and very strange, omission in the trailer was Princess Peach. Anya Taylor-Joy, Queen’s Gambit’s actress, is portraying the bubbly damsel in distress. Although it’s not clear why she was not included in the teaser (even a short shot like Luigi), that’s something we can look forward to as soon as more footage becomes available. Peach’s entire role is not being captured and locked away in Bowser’s ideal scenario. She has seen some action in games and can now show her skills in the Super Smash Bros. series. Maybe she will join Mario in the last fight.
