When Will Unforgotten Season 5 Release Date?
Unforgotten Season 5. Unforgotten’s season 4 finale was tragic. DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) died. The crime drama will return to ITV for a fifth installment.
Now it is known who will replace Walker in season 5. Sinead Keenan (Showtrial and Little Blue Boy) will take over the reins. The actress is now part of the Unforgotten Cast, which includes actor Sanjeev Bhaskar, who plays DI Sunny Khan. Bhaskar talked to RadioTimes.com about what Unforgotten season 5 will look like after the shocking events of last year. He said that the story would pick up shortly after the ending of the previous story. “There is a connection between that story and the previous story.”
He said that he feels “very privileged” being a part of the crime drama.
He said that Chris Lang, who wrote all of them, has also written this one. “So yeah, it’s exciting to read the scripts. It’s a bit strange not to see Nicola’s character there. But I saw Nicola twice, maybe three times, I think, in the last few months, during Christmas. We keep in touch anyway.”
Bhaskar said: “Given the fact that I was the only one who had an idea in series 1 of how this would turn out in terms, you know, castings, writing, directing, I enter series 5 with a lot of faith in the person coming in.”
“And the actors who will be coming in will be cast the same way they were in the four previous seasons. It is exciting to work alongside, work opposite and collaborate with that kind of person. It keeps me on my toes.”
This is everything we know about Unforgotten’s fifth season, including who will be returning and what will happen in this new season.
Unforgotten season 5 release dates speculation
ITV has yet to announce when Unforgotten’s fifth series is coming to our screens. But hopefully we won’t need as much time as we did with season four.
Each series was aired on ITV for approximately a year before series 4. Series one, two, and three aired in 2015, 2017, and 2018. There was however a gap of almost two years between series 3 and 4, which was partially due to delays in filming caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
We take into account previous series and predict that Unforgotten will be back on TV by September/October 2022 – so long as COVID-19 does not disrupt production plans.
Chris Lang, the creator of Unforgotten, revealed in a July 2021 tweet that he was writing season five. However, eagle-eyed viewers may spot a reference about Faith. Could this be the name for the Unforgotten substitute for Nicola Walker?
ITV had previously tweeted that it thanked Nicola Walker and Chris Lang for their work on the show. However, they said that Cassie’s story was over. “Nicola and Chris Lang decided that Cassie would be ending her story last night. But that Unforgotten would continue in series five with a new case and a new ‘Partner In Crime’ for DI Sunny Khan.”
Unforgotten season 5 cast
Sanjeev Bhaskar will reprise his role as DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan in series 5.
Walker will not be returning after the tragic death of her character, DCI Cassie Stuart in series four. Sinead Keenan will replace Walker as the new DCI Jessica James in Unforgotten. Walker revealed in an interview with TV Insider that she had planned to kill her character since season 3. “We had a lot of conversations after Season 3 about the direction it was heading, and it was a collective decision. She said that she believed the clues were in Season 3.”
“The show’s title is Unforgotten, and I believe there’s a lot of narrative beauty in this woman. She won’t be forgotten. Because she was real, I felt she was very different on TV.”
Other cast members who are returning include Jordan Long (DS Murray Boulting), Lewis Reeves, Carolina Main (DS Fran Lingley), Georgia Mackenzie and Pippa Nixon (DC Karen Willetts), who will be reprising their roles as Sunny’s police colleagues. Sunny’s now-fiancée Sal will also make an appearance.
It is not clear if Cassie’s father Martin (Peter Egan), her child Adam (Jassa Ahluwalia), or Martin’s partner John (Alastair Mackenzie) will return, but they may visit Sunny to say hello.
Sunny’s new case has yet to be solved. There are no details on the casting of the victims, suspects and their relatives. We expect high-profile actors to compete for these roles, judging from the stellar lineups seen in previous seasons and the success of series 4.

Unforgotten season 5 plot
Unforgotten Season 5 will begin with DCI Jess (Keenan’s) first day at her new job.
ITV’s preview showed that Jess is determined to make a good impression on her new colleagues. Will she be in the right mindset to deliver and inspire?
“And how will Cassie Stuart’s ghost haunt her? Cassie Stuart will have big shoes to fill. Is she able to work with professionalism, resolve and spirit?”
“Jess’s initial case involves the discovery of human remains at a Hammersmith property, London. How long have they been there? Is this a crime committed in the 1930s, or was it disposed of more recently?”
What was the story at the conclusion of Unforgotten season 4’s finale?
We learned in a dramatic finale that Dean Barton, real name Dean Quinn, had killed Matthew Walsh in the 1990s. Although Ram Sidhu (Phaldut Sharma) recognized Matthew as the one who had beaten him and sexually assaulted Fiona (“Liz White”) a few weeks before, it was Dean who found Matthew. He’d tripped on an allotment, and he’d hit his head against a brick wall, knocking him out.
Dean, who had attempted to escape his family’s connections to crime through changing his last name and training to be a police officer, recognized Walsh as the rival gang member that had killed Stephen. He decided to revenge his brother’s death by stabbing Walsh through the head with an engraved fountain pen.
Although Dean was taken into custody for Walsh’s death in a car accident, Ram, the expectant father of Walsh, was likely to spend time in prison after being charged with both preventing the lawful burial (alongside Liz) and his participation in Dean’s drug smuggling operation. Fiona was also facing additional charges for her fake therapy license. Liz was forced to resign due to her charges.
Despite their success in finding Walsh’s killer, the finale ended on an uneasy note. DCI Cassie Stuart had to have surgery that revealed that she had suffered serious brain damage from her car accident and would not be able to fully recover. Sunny delivered a funeral eulogy and visited her grave with flowers.
