Wednesday Season 1 Recap and Explained
Netflix just released the eight episodes of the original season, Wednesday. The series, directed by Tim Burton, is based on Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), a member of the Addams Family. The universe of the Addams Family is rich with tradition and history. However, the new series introduces “outcasts”, people who have supernatural abilities and connections to the Addams Family. They stand out from the “normies,” who are ordinary citizens who live close to Wednesday’s Nevermore Academy.
This episode focuses on Wednesday’s first year at Nevermore and a series of strange murders in that region. The final episode of her investigation brings out some very shocking conclusions.
It all begins with Wednesday when Tyler Galpin, a townie who claims to be a normie, enters the scene. The young, pigtailed goth experiences visions throughout the season that give her insight into the future and dark secrets of another person. When she kissed Tyler, she saw Tyler as “Hyde”. This villain type is based upon Dr. Jekyll’s concept of Mr. Hyde who was both a scientist and a monster.
Wednesday discovers her lover is likely to be the local murderer. Wednesday enlists her friends in kidnapping and torturing him. They resist the idea. Tyler makes a speech to Wednesday about Tyler’s evil plans after her plans go wrong and she is expelled. But he is not the mastermind behind these murders. We still have to ask: Who is Tyler?
Wednesday’s visit will be to Eugene, Eugene’s bug-loving friend and currently in hospital after an attack. He claims he saw red boots on someone else during his attack. That connects to Wednesday. Marilyn Thornhill, Christina Ricci, is the suspect. Ms. Thornhill made sure to be a friend with Wednesday throughout the season. It was all a ruse. She is Laurel Gates. For many years, she has been plotting to exact revenge on the Addams clan.
Wednesday confronts Thornhill. She learns that Tyler’s plant-loving teacher had been using Tyler’s herbal concoctions in order to reveal Tyler’s Hyde self. It was after she revealed Tyler’s mother’s fate at Hyde. Thornhill then confronts Tyler, who tells her that he will do whatever he can for her.
But it’s Tyler.
Wednesday (Gwendoline Christie), has fought alongside Principal Weems (Joy Sunday), throughout the series. She is deeply concerned about Nevermore’s reputation and the safety of her students. She is also capable of becoming a shapeshifter. She transforms into Tyler the Fake, but she is then stabbed with nightshade poison before the principal can do more. Wednesday sees her go to sleep. The shovel is used as a clapper to the head of the teen.
Thornhill’s plans extend beyond Wednesday’s torture. She will resurrect Joseph Crackstone, whose coffin was cursed by Wednesday’s magical ancestral Goody Addams. Crackstone was a zealot who hated outcasts and wanted them all dead. Thornhill agrees with this plan. She uses Wednesday’s blood for Crackstone’s burial and brings him back into the real world.
Wednesday is getting bleary-eyed and Thornhill devises her grand plan. Nevermore is ravaged by a giddy Crackstone. Goody Addams’ spirit arrives to heal her descendant before it is too late.

Wednesday’s Hyde side is again confronted by Tyler in the woods. Emma Myers, Wednesday’s roommate, manages to “wolf out” her roommate Enid and transforms into a werewolf protector for her best friend. Wednesday manages to escape and kill Crackstone with a shard of a special sword.
Thornhill is also given her comeuppance when she is swarmed by Eugene’s honeybees. Even though it is not clear if she actually does die, Wednesday gives Thornhill an enormous kick to her head and blackens the scene. Wednesday reunites her then with her other friends: Bianca, Joy Sonntag, Xavier, Enid. Enid is finally able to embrace her, after repeatedly refusing to give hugs throughout the season.
Wednesday ends the story by finishing her novel with her typewriter, and then typing “THE END?” Wednesday is also gifted a phone from Xavier. Tyler was competing to win her affections. She’s a little bit like a Luddite.
Wednesday is on her way to Nevermore with Thing and Lurch when she gets threatening texts from an unknown phone number. Wednesday is thrilled to have her first stalker. Fans might be equally pleased. It suggests that there may be another mystery for her in a possible season 2.

Review Before You Watch Wednesday Season 2

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or on a mountain without internet access, chances are you’ve heard of or seen Wednesday, Tim Burton’s new spin-off from the classic Addams family. The series has been a big success on social media since its release.
It was premiered on Netflix just a few weeks ago and has been a huge success. The series follows Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega, as she enrolls in Nevermore Academy. Nevermore High is not your typical school. It’s a school for people with supernatural abilities. Each group has its own clique. It doesn’t matter if they’re werewolves, vampires, sirens, psychics or any other supernatural abilities, Nevermore has them.
Wednesday is not your typical teenager. Morticia and Gomez’s daughter, so it is no surprise. She is introverted, loves black, and will do whatever it takes to get her blood stained if she is ever in danger. She’s not one to lose heart and has returned many times over the years.
Wednesday may not be excited at first about the prospect of transferring schools, but Nevermore isn’t as depressing as she thought. Nevermore becomes immersed in a murder mystery at school as she attempts to stop the monster eating school students.
It is because of its outstanding casting that the show has achieved such success. Cast members such as Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta Jones (who played the role of a young Wednesday Addams), Luis Guzman and Christina Ricci do a great job of bringing their characters to life. Jenna Ortega has a great deadpan look. Her snarky responses allow her to embody Wednesday.
The fashion was second to none at the show. Fans were fascinated by the mixture of gothic chic with soft punk, as much as statement pieces. This style enhances the story, makes it more real and credible. This style is loved by most of the audience.
There are many videos already on TikTok from content creators and influencers trying to recreate Wednesday’s outfit for the “Rave’N” dance party in episode 4. Each character is distinctive and chic so viewers can easily identify them in different characters. This is what makes the series so much fun.
Tim Burton is clearly a master at directing. The show’s gothic style and horror storytelling expertise are unmatched. This show’s storytelling, cinematography, and set design are exceptional.
This dark and twisted thriller is funny even on Wednesday. This series is worth a look. It is well-executed and beautifully balanced. It will be a major highlight of the year.
