This episode is from the second part of the series. This episode aims to prevent Sasuke from joining Orochimaru. Naruto’s Chunin Exams were followed by the Sasuke recovery arc. The trials’ events caused the young Uchiha to lose all faith in Kakashi’s teachings and Konoha as a whole, which Orochimaru would later masterfully use. Naruto and his friends would chase him just as he was about leaving the village to save their friend, before being given to the Sannin. As a result, several skirmishes between the heroes and Orochimaru’s lieutenants occurred, leading to an epic conflict between Naruto and Sasuke.
Why did Shikamaru save Sasuke from peril?
Hokage Tasunade had personally asked Shikamaru for help in saving Sasuke. Shikamaru is a newly ordained Chunin and she assigns him the task of retrieving Sasuke, while the Jonin are on other missions. Tsunade tells him to gather as many Genin he can and to leave the village as soon as possible. Shikamaru is encouraged by her to send Naruto along on the expedition to save Sasuke. Although it’s possible that the other squad leaders wouldn’t want Naruto to join them, Shikamaru doesn’t have the authority to reject Naruto. They already get along, and Tsunade is aware that Naruto would be disappointed if Sasuke’s rescue mission commander turned him down.

Mission Of Shikamaru Rescue Sasuke
After a battle with the Konoha Special Mission Platoon, the Sound Four, Sasuke’s guards, are found sleeping by the Recovery Team. They managed to escape several booby traps, and they set off a security device to detect intruders when they approach the Sound Four’s hiding place. Shikamaru invents a scheme to make the Sound Four aware of them, making them seem less secure and inept. Kiba set off a smokebomb, and Shikamaru uses the Shadow Imitation technique to catch them. The strategy succeeds, but Shikamaru failed to anticipate Ukon’s presence: Ukon assaults Shikamaru, compelling him to free the others and giving Jirobo the opportunity to confine them.
Jirobo’s prison is breached by the Recovery Team. All of the Sound Four’s attempts to provide chase are thwarted by Jirobo, who remained behind to ensure the other members wouldn’t be pursued. To allow the other Sound Four members to move on, Choji offers Jirobo to fight him. Although he finally defeats Jirobo, he is too exhausted from the fight to rejoin the squad. When the others finally catch up to the remaining Sound Four, they attempt to approach them by pretending to be Jirobo, but their ploy is exposed, and they are caught in Kidomaru’s web. Neji offers to deal with Kidomaru while the others continue their pursuit because he has a special ability to break Kidomaru’s webs. Before they leave, Neji warns them that this division of the team will likely remain necessary. Neji kills Kidomaru like Choji. But he can’t rejoin the team as a result of his injuries.
The rest of the Recovery Team is able to catch up with Tayuya and Sakon and stop them in their tracks. As Sakon and Ukon are also cut off, Kiba, Akamaru, Sakon, and Ukon are all separated from their respective teams. Naruto and Shikamaru then manage to secure the casket in which Sasuke is being transported. While Shikamaru attends to Tayuya, Naruto makes an attempt to flee with Sasuke, but Sasuke is kidnapped from him by Kimimaro, another of Orochimaru’s lieutenants. Naruto follows him but soon after Sasuke emerges from the coffin and begins walking towards Orochimaru alone. Rock Lee must first rescue Kimimaro, and then Naruto can follow. The Three Sand Siblings arrive just in the right time to save Kiba Shikamaru and Lee from certain death. Temari kills Tayuya; Kankur kills Sakon, Ukon, and Gaara keeps Kimimaro at bay until he dies from a pre-existing condition.
Naruto and Sasuke travel together to the Valley of the End. It is here that the Lands of Fire and Sound come together. After Naruto fails to convince Sasuke back to Konoha to fight, they begin fighting. Naruto can’t kill Sasuke and eventually passes out. Despite trying to kill Naruto throughout the duel Sasuke moves on to Orochimaru. He moves slowly because of battle fatigue, but he ultimately arrives at his target, making the Recovery Team’s mission ineffective.

Shikamaru’s Journey to Chunin: How Did He Do It?
Shikamaru was promoted as a chunin, despite losing his match. The exam was cancelled entirely due to the Invasion Of Konoha. The problem-solving, composure and mercy Shikamaru displayed in his Chunin Exams duel versus Temari surprised the exam’s organizers. He was the first ninja of his generation to reach chunin status in that exam time. Shikamaru would have received a promotion even if the tests hadn’t been fully completed. His promotion was deemed to be in the village’s best interests by the exam coordinators. For the invasion of Konoha, all hands were required. Shikamaru’s promotion to chunin status gave the resistance an additional skilled ninja to command it.
Shikamaru beat Temari to the punch by keeping him at bay until dusk. Battlefields work better in the shadows. He tied a kunai on a piece to increase the range and effectiveness of his Shadow Paralysis Jutsu. He placed Temari in a corner and began manipulating the shadow underground through openings left by Naruto. He caught Temari at the back. The content of matches in the Chunin Exam is more important than the outcome. All of the ninjas could lose their matches but still be selected to be chunin. Shikamaru forfeited the bout after capturing Temari in his Paralysis Jutsu.
He felt that he had sufficiently demonstrated himself to judges and didn’t need to continue. According to chapter 309, his performance demonstrated the cool and analytical qualities that are required to lead effectively. Exam coordinators portrayed Shikamaru as a calm and level-headed platoon leader.

How did Orochimaru adopt a temporary body to avoid death?
The Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi has kept his limbs locked up and thus prevented him doing ninjutsu. This had caused immense suffering for the evil Orochimaru. Orochimaru desperately needed Sasuke to take control of his body and gain his Sharingan eyes. But since time was running short, Orochimaru grudgingly followed Kabuto’s suggestion and inhabited the body of another ninja. This act saved Sasuke from the same fate. Actually, Sasuke was granted time to kill Orochimaru in Naruto Shippuden. This was a huge stroke of luck. If not, he would have been in serious danger when he showed up at Orochimaru’s door.
Sasuke’s Recognition Of Naruto’s Superiority
Sasuke still had to recover from the unfortunate collision with Itachi, when Naruto returned to Hidden Leaf Village. Their once friendly rivalry was now strained. After Sasuke challenged Naruto about his skill, the boys engaged in combat on a hospital roof. Kakashi Haitake appeared and threw the genin from one another. They crashed into water storage tanks, stopping any further harm. Sasuke’s self-doubt about his own power increased when Naruto’s Rasengan delivered more damage to his tank than Sasuke’s Chidori did to his. Kakashi was able to restrain him and try to negotiate a solution. Sasuke was in a position to win, and the Sound Four were already there.
The final battle between Naruto and Sasuke.
Sasuke and Naruto’s epic battle, which took place right there at the Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju statues, was the culmination of the Sasuke Retrieval arc of Naruto. The two adversaries had the opportunity to demonstrate all of their abilities during this conflict, from Naruto’s Biju cloak to the second stage of the curse mark. Naruto almost lost this intense and horrible duel at the end. Sasuke spared his former friend’s life out of respect and continued on his adventure to Orochimaru’s hideout. Naruto, however, saw this as an opportunity for him to strengthen his resolve and rekindle his friendship with Sasuke. This setback allowed Naruto to be strengthened and more committed to his teammates than ever. It also served to prelude to Naruto Shippuden. Pre-Shippuden Naruto was able to come to a memorable, bittersweet conclusion because the sorrow of Sasuke’s betrayal was matched by his unwavering confidence in the future of their friendship.
