Why Should you Watch The Spy X Family?

Spy X Family

Spy X Family. As an anime fan, I watch shows even after they are over. This is partly because it makes it easier to keep up with the story. But also, there’s no point in waiting for new episodes when so many have been released. Enter Spy x Family.

This comedy spy thriller centers around Twilight, a master spy who creates a fake family to investigate a high-profile target. He enrolls his “son” at the same prestigious school that his target goes to.

4 reasons why you should love this anime

3 reasons why you should love this anime

Spy x Family is mature in its own right, but it also explores three characters who all hide something and try to find a deeper connection with their “fake family” lives.

1. The Characters

1. The Characters

The series already provides great insight into the characters’ lives. It could be Twilight’s expert wit as a master spy, Anya’s hilarious reactions when she can read minds of people, or the clumsy bloodlust of Yor, but these three are the perfect “family” to keep peace between rival countries. The story is complete with charming supporting characters. But, for now, let’s talk about the “Forger” family.

Loid Forger aka Twilight

Loid Forger aka Twilight

This suave spy is giving James Bond a run for his money. Twilight is similar to Mr. Bond. He is still given the task of spying on a prominent politician and is instructed to search for people who will form his fake family. His ultimate goal is to find his child so that he can attend the same school as the politician’s son.

He may also be invited to a party with the parents of the school, where he can spy on his target. James Bond is a remarkable man, but can he create a family? Could he pretend to be the greatest dad and still be as elegant and sexy as possible?

We have seen his fighting skills, his support for his children, and his ability to keep his spying abilities in check. We see his gradual rise to fatherhood as a parent and the extent to which he will go to accomplish his mission.

Anya Forger

Anya Forger

She is a sweetheart of a telepath and steals every scene she appears in. I smile every time she speaks, whether it’s her childish reactions to things or her sweet way of calling Twilight a liar. Although there is still much to learn about her past and why she has the abilities she has, being the only person who knows the truth about Yor’s and Twilight’s other professions is hilarious. Her passion for her favorite spy show Spy Wars is also comedy gold.

Yor Forger aka Thorn Princess

Yor Forger aka Thorn Princess

Yor’s sweetness contrasts with her work as a cold-blooded assassin. But that balance is amazing to see. This is how women in this period are judged by peers. Their social status depends on whether or not they are in a relationship. Yor was fortunate to find Twilight, a mutual partner who shares similar goals in faking relationships to help a larger picture.

In Yor’s case, that is to help her brother’s job. She showed her love and compassion for the people she loves most. Although her side gig as an assassin may become a problem for the “Forgers”, only time will show how her skills can help the family in crisis.

2) Fantastic Animation Quality

SPY x FAMILY | OFFICIAL TRAILER 2 By Crunchyroll Collection

Spy x Family is a beautiful anime, with some great action sequences. It’s not surprising that this show looks so amazing, thanks to studios such as CloverWorks and Wit Studio. The hostage situation in Episode 1, or the castle scene of Episode 5, are all beautifully illustrated.

It makes the action look just as powerful as what you would see on shows like Fire Force and Demon Slayer. It’s easy to find something to talk about when you have a show like this. These two studios are able to continue creating beautifully-crafted animation in a modern setting that is more modern than the fantasy properties they’ve previously worked on.

3) Rich World Building Story

5) Rich World Building Story

While the story is about the “Forgers”, and their ability to pretend to be the perfect family and friends, the ultimate goal of the story is always mentioned. Peace between Ostania and Westalis depends on Twilight’s mission.

We are introduced to the history of the master spy and his fellow citizens early on in the series. The world-building shown so far is very similar to the 1950s. We are shown both the good and bad aspects of living in the mid-20th Century, from fashion to social standards.

Twilight is clearly a man of his time. However, he is quick and eager to address some “norms”, in order to help Yor, his wife and to be a better father for his daughter, Anya.

4) The Funny Moments Even More Fun By Including Their Secret Jobs And Abilities

6) The Funny Moments Even More Fun By Including Their Secret Jobs And Abilities

This comedy is hilarious. It’s hard to believe that it would be about the jobs of the main characters, but there are many funny moments caused by Loid and Yor’s secret professions.

In Episode 4, “The Prestigious School’s Interview”, the courtyard is overwhelmed by a stampede. Yor uses her assassin skills to take down the leading cow using pressure points. Loid is shocked to learn about Yor’s secret job. Yor must explain how she was able to kill a cow without telling him – it’s a funny scene.

Another scene is during the episode, “Will They Pass or Fail,” when Loid literally goes out of his way to get the whole agency around them to gather at an abandoned castle-turned-amusement park so that he can role play with Anya to celebrate her getting into Eden College – all of which is somehow pulled off, creating literally one of the most uplifting and funny moments of the show.

These are the things that make this series so beloved. I will definitely need more of them going forward.
