Top 10 Anime Like Lookism That You Should Watch

Korean anime series Lookism was a highly anticipated release, and there’s no surprise as to why due to the popular source material. In a society that favors good looks, a high school outcast leads a double life switching between his two bodies that are polar opposites in appearance, as per the synopsis on IMDB.
When body swaps happen in television series, they could have many different possibilities, and it’s obviously entertaining. It’s always about two different people understanding the other more. The swap could happen at any time and also bring out a different side.
There are many anime out there that explore body swapping in fun ways, and some have had more than five seasons. The shows on this list have all perfected the body swap storylines and added some fantastical elements to them, to make them memorable.
The first is the anime in which the characters change from Popular to Unpopular
Second, where the character’s body changes
Third, anime in which the character was bullied at high school.
Final note: For those unfamiliar with these anime, I will give you the synopsis to avoid spoiling you, while explaining why it is similar to the Lookism anime.
Anime Like Lookism For fans of Changing from Unpopular to Popular
Masamune-kun’s Revenge
“As a child Masamune Makabe admitted his love for Aki Adagaki, a wealthy and beautiful woman. He was brutally rejected by her and she called him “Piggy” because of his corpulent appearance.
Masamune fled to the country to find his grandfather, and he worked tirelessly to get fit. After he had become thin and handsome, Masamune returns to his neighborhood to exact revenge on the girl who wronged him.
Masamune, Aki’s maid helps him to get her to fall in love with her so that he can break her heart.”
Masamune-kun’s Revenge is similar to Lookism. It follows a boy who grows up to be a hottie. There is no body swapping involved. He was bullied as a child for being too chubby, so he left and got fit to take revenge on the girl who insulted him.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge’s bullying was largely a misunderstanding. As such, it doesn’t have the same feel and appeal as Lookism with its criminal-level bullying and assault. Masamune-kun’s Revenge, on the other hand, is more romantic comedy than Lookism.
Kiss Him, not Me
“Chubby Kae Serinuma” is an avid fujoshi and secretly ships her male classmates. After her favorite anime character passes away, she quickly loses weight.
Her classmates, including the attractive men that she ships, discover how attractive she is upon her return to school.
The problem is that the boys are competing for her affections. She just wants them to show affection towards one another.
The main character in both series is a hottie who suddenly turns from husky into hottie. They have to cope with the huge influx of positive attention.
Kiss Him, Not Me is a film that follows a female protagonist. Despite being picked on previously, Kae was a confident fujoshi who was able to bounce off her thick skin. She is upset when she gets attention from the new reverse harem around her. She likes to ship them together and she enjoys being in their company.
Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki-kun
“Fumiya Tomozaki, the Japanese top fighter in TackFam, is the best player. He is an inept player at all other aspects of life, despite holding such a title.
The second-best TackFam player will ask to meet up one day.
Tomozaki discovers they are Aoi, a popular girl at school. However, she is disappointed to discover that someone she respects is a failure in life.
She now aims to show him how to win at the wonderful game of life.
Tomozaki, unlike Lookism isn’t unpopular simply because he is chubby. Because he lacks social skills, he was not popular. Hyung Suk can now rehabilitate his social skills by getting a new body that he can swap into. Tomozaki’s reputation and social skills are rehabilitated when he is assisted by a girl who is popular.
It is interesting to note that Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki kun uses actual social skills and not just wish fulfillment like Lookism.
Romantic Killer
Anzu Hoshino, a high schooler, loves video games, chocolate and her cat Momohiko. She shuns all other activities, even romantic ones.
One day, however, a mysterious creature changes her reality and she is forced to give up the three things she loves. She is then told by her doctor that she cannot have the relationship sims that are set up around her. These include Tsukasa Kazuki (transfer student), Junta Hayami (her childhood friend), and Hijiri Koganei (sheltered student).
Lookism tells the story of Hyung Suk, who is bullied and unhappy at school. Romantic Killer shows Anzu enjoying her unpopularity. She is an otaku, and she loves to play alone.
They are both forced to be popular by some magical interference. While Lookism is interested in other topics, Romantic Killer is more interested in poking fun at the otome game she is forced to play in real-life.
Anime Like Lookism For Body Swapping Fans
Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches
Ryuu Yamada was once a thug. But he wanted to improve his reputation at high school. He was unknown to anyone at school, and by his second year, he had become so bored that he decided to be a slacker once again.
On his way to work, Ryuu trips over and accidentally kisses an honor student. They swap bodies quickly and Ryuu soon finds himself in the world of school legends, where seven beautiful witches can awaken their supernatural abilities by just kissing.
Both series have body switching prominently featured in the plot. Although body switching is the most prominent supernatural element in Lookism’s story, there are many other powers in Yamada Kun and the Seven Witches.
Except for body switching, Lookism doesn’t have much in common with Yamada Kun and the Seven Witches. Yamada is misunderstood and bullied. The series is about Yamada building a Harem by helping troubled girls.
It’s my personal favorite anime because of the opening I see every week
Kokoro Connect
“One day, seemingly for no reason at all, members of the Cultural Research Club begin randomly switching bodies with one another. It can become complete chaos when members of the opposite sex switch.
It can be difficult to keep your most private secrets safe when you’re wearing another person’s skin.
Both series feature a story about a sudden body switching phenomenon. It is the only character in Lookism while it is a group. Hyung Suk in Lookism can change back. In Kokoro Connect, Hyungsuk often switches bodies randomly and unintentionally.
Kokoro Connect uses body switching to examine the hidden character drama in the group. Contrary to Lookism, where the body switching was more of an opportunity for the main character’s happier school life in a superficial society.
Redos for those who love the idea of getting a new look
ReLife
“Arata Kaizaki, a 27-year-old unemployed man, has lived with the financial support of his parents for the past three months and part-time work. He hasn’t been able to find work since he quit his first job after just three months.
After a night of drinking, Arata meets a mysterious man who offers Arata a pill to turn 17 again, so he can redo one year of his youth. All expenses paid.
Is Arata going to find the right things in life that will make him happy after just one year of high school?
The series is essentially about two people who are given another chance at a happy high-school life. ReLife shows that Kaizaki had a good high school experience, but his adult life was rocky. He is now being rehabilitated by high school social experiences.
Hyung Suk, just like in ReLife uses his positive social interactions with his body at high school to motivate his body to be better.Remake Your Life
Kyouya Hashiba, an adult, left his job at the office to pursue a career within the videogame industry. He tried everything, but nothing worked. The bright potential of a popular video game was not enough to get him a job. However, the division closed abruptly.
He now lives with his parents and wishes he would have gone to the arts college he chose instead of the more safe business university. Perhaps he could have trained alongside the similar-aged Platinum Generation of hit gamers.
He falls asleep and wakes up one night as a high school student, ready to choose the university he wants to attend.
Both series focus on people who are unhappy about their life and are offered a chance for a new start. Remake Our Life gives a high school an entirely new look, while Lookism transforms it. It takes a failed adult and sends him back to the past to make a fresh start in his adult life.
Both series share a focus in vocational schools. Remake Our Life focuses on game design. Hyung Suk isn’t interested in fashion design, but Hashiba wanted to learn how to make games.
Anime Like Lookism For fans of Overcoming Vicious Bullying
Accel World
“Haruyuki is an outcast at school and is constantly ridiculed in his class. His only escape is to the virtual world of videogames, like so many others.
Kuroyukihime is the school’s vice president of student council. Haru’s video games skills are what eventually attract Kuroyukihime’s attention. Haru is introduced to Brain Burst, a game that speeds up the cognitive process of the human brain to the point where time seems to stop.
It is actually an Augmented Reality Massively Multiple Player Online (ARMMO), Fighting Game. People fight each other in fierce duels to earn Burst Points that can be used for acceleration in the real world.
Both series feature chubby characters who are bullied and unpopular at school. Although Haruyuki does not end up changing schools like HyungSuk, he is given an opportunity to grow as a person and can fight his bullies just like HyungSuk.
The main difference is that Accel World focuses more on the Brain Burst activities over time because the plot shifts its focus away from Haruyuki’s unpopularity.
Magical Girl Website
“Aya Asagiri leads a miserable existence.
She is bullied at school. She is also beaten at home. She is the only light in her life, except for a cat. But one day that will be gone.
She discovers a kindred spirit online and is given the power of a fairy-tale girl.
So begins her vengeance.”
Both series are about characters who are so bullied and abused, that the police should be involved. They instead give the main character magical intervention.
Hyung Suk is more content to enjoy his new body than to fight back, but Magical Girl Site is more violent and bloody revenge porn about bullied people who are made into magical girls.
While anime has its fair share of bullying, Lookism is the most brutal and frequent series that uses bullying.
This video is ending. If you enjoyed the content, please don’t hesitate and like it. It’s not much for you but it motivates me to continue providing excellent content.
For those who have seen the majority of his anime, you can also check out the manhwa. Manhwa is not like anime.
It was discussed in a video I made on YouTube called “Top School Manhwa”.
