In Tokyo Revengers, Kazutora Hanemiya is one of the founding members of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He was the Vice-Captain of the First Division until he was absorbed into Valhalla as its number 3 and was the leader of the Anti-Toman group. At the conclusion of the Bloody Halloween, Kazutora was sentenced to 10 years in an indefinite detention facility as punishment for his crimes.

In Tokyo Revengers, Kazutora is a tall man with an average build and a slim frame. His black hair is styled into messy wolf cuts that have yellow streaks all over. Kazutora has a beauty mark on the right eye of his sandy-colored eyes, and a tiger tattoo extends across his neck, shoulder, and chest. Kazutora also wears a drop earring with a bell ornament on its top. He’s usually seen wearing the Valhalla uniform. When he’s not on gang duty, he will be wearing his Mizo Middle School uniform.

At the age of 18, Kazutora has significantly longer hair, which reaches his shoulders. His locks are mostly black, but there are also pieces that have been dyed yellow. He often wears it in ponytails.

Personality Kazutora Tokyo Revengers

In Tokyo Revengers, Kazutora is a deeply broken person. As a young boy, Kazutora was forced to choose between his father and his mother when it came to domestic violence.

Because of his utterly nonexistent family life and his snide remarks about other families that were happy. Even the simplest thing, like seeing children sharing tender moments in their homes with their families, caused an angry spot in Kazutora and deeply irritated him.

It is possible that his love for the Tokyo Manji Gang was actually motivated by a need to be secluded from loneliness and was actually very dedicated towards the Tokyo Manji Gang and Mikey and tried to make Mikey as happy as possible and even resorting to unhealthful and even criminal tactics like theft. These impulses would result in the worst since his attempt to steal was to result in tragedy and his already fragile mind falling apart within a matter of minutes. To cope, he was unable to rationally shift the blame for the death of Shinichiro onto Mikey. Five Kazutora is mentally exhausted and, at 15 years old, was at the brink of losing his mental stability after being in prison. The sanity he did have left was protected by Baji who sat with the belief that everything that was wrong within his own life is the result of Mikey.

Kazutora is found to be quite dangerous, sadistic, and violent. Although he appeared calm and courteous when introducing himself to Takemichi’s team, Kazutora did not hesitate to introduce the group to one of his “most trusted men” both of whom broke their legs, requiring the crutch-wearing pair in order to walk with a smile in his eyes at the way he’d handled it like it was normal. As it was time for the Bloody Halloween was about to commence, he was so annoyed at Draken’s request that he decided to take it up with Hansen who was the referee and proclaimed that the gang from Valhalla was going to slay the Tokyo Manji Gang to death and giggling at the bloodbath which would soon follow.

Kazutora is so insane and detached from reality in that he thought that killing others makes people bad, killing enemies makes one a hero. He displayed the absurd and flawed logic he developed in order to justify the killing of Mikey for the things that Kazutora wrongly blamed him for.

After his second stint at the prison, he received the assistance he required and was allowed to rejoin the world. He’s still quiet, with his emotional stress still evident at times, but it appears to be in better control.

At the age of 18, Kazutora has recovered fully. He can now speak normally with people around him and react emotionally to events. He is also adamant about his actions from the past and is incredibly committed to the Tokyo Manji Gang and Mikey so much so that in a different timeline the latter was devastated in the event that the Tokyo Manji Gang was corrupted by Black Dragon money, and struggled hard to get them out of the way.

In the present timeline, Kazutora is on more in good terms with Takemichi. He was the first to meet with him and assist him in his search to find Mikey. Kazutora was also concerned about Takemichi’s health, noting that he’d be getting married soon, proving Kazutora’s not just blindly loyal to Mikey however, he is capable of taking care of others in a manner that is exemplary.

Kazutora Redemption Arc

In Tokyo Revengers, there are only a handful of characters who have made fans as excited as Kazutora. Although he appeared to be a charming and appealing character in the beginning, it took only a few minutes for people’s perception of him to shift. In addition, Kazutora intended to murder Mikey, however, the character was even accountable for the death of Mikey’s older brother Shinichiro and Baji.

However, Tokyo Revengers managed to finish its debut season with Kazutora with only one path in front of him. One that will lead to redemption and returning to the Tokoyo Manji Gang. Mikey and Draken, as well as the majority of the Toman founders have accepted their forgiveness for Kazutora’s past mistakes and have refused to let him attempt to commit suicide as a means to avenge himself. This is the reason that causes Kazutora’s mental breakdown following the murder of Shinichiro and is struggling to convince himself that he murdered the son of a close friend. Unable to comprehend his own actions and the evident consequences, he fools himself into thinking that Mikey was actually his adversary and that his actions are justifiable. It was only when his actions resulted in Baji sacrificing himself in his support of Toman that Kazutora is finally able to come off of the situation. Although he’s been accepted for what he did to him, in his own mind it is still not enough for him to forgive himself and be restored.

The final scene in Bloody Halloween shows Kazutora back in a juvenile detention facility. He’s responsible for another death, particularly in the first few days after his release, Kazutora says that it’s likely that he’ll remain in prison for at least a decade regardless of his age.

As painful as this was for Takemichi, Kazutora believed he deserved even more. Recognizing the situation, Draken makes it clear to Kazutora that suicide isn’t the solution and neither he nor Toman will be able to forgive Kazutora if he chooses to pursue that route. In this manner, it is clear how the very first thing toward Kazutora’s recovery is to live more specifically, to be able to sustain his own. If the negative thoughts of hatred, grief and jealousy were the reason he chose to commit the actions the way he did, then Kazutora must learn to not allow those emotions to control him for any longer.

In order for Mikey to accept forgiveness from Kazutora and all of Toman must also forgive him.

Kazutora’s redemption path could be completely undetermined in the present, but it’s probable that Toman’s dark past could play a part. Being intimate with Mikey and a victim of Baji’s demise, he could be the secret weapon Toman requires to defeat Kisaki’s devious plot.

Based on the information that Takemichi and Naoto have managed to find out, Kisaki’s plan is to gain the trust of Mikey and then slowly assume control of his role in the Tokyo Manji Gang without anyone even noticing. Whatever way Takemichi may block his plans, Kisaki always seems to get his hands on the position of being the winner. In the Bloody Halloween, Kisaki lets the world know the fact that Baji had been the one person who has ever beat him, however how, and in what manner, and the time frame that this occurred in remains not clear. With Baji deceased and unable to fulfill his role, Kazutora could become Toman’s next dark horse.

Within the Tokyo Manji Gang, Mikey is the leader, with Draken serving as his vice-captain as well as right-hand man. At present, Kazutora is the only Toman member that has killed anyone. And while Kazutora may have said he would not be killing his fellow members, his enemies are a different story. Kazutora isn’t going to let anything occur to his fellow Toman members and won’t be able to forgive himself for playing a role in harming them or any other person. After all he’s endured with Mikey, it’s probable that he’d willingly give up his life to ensure the safety of his commander.

At the moment, Kazutora is the greatest weapon Toman is equipped with within their arsenal. Kazutora is a founding member who’s just as powerful as a Captain, but not more so, and isn’t a person apart from Toman. He is a believer in the cause of Toman and would be willing to die to defend it, making Kisaki’s biggest threat to Kisaki’s yet.
