Space Force Season 1 Recap & Ending Explained: What’s Happened?

Since he left The Office in 2013, fans had to wait almost ten years to finally see Steve Carell as a star in an episodic television series. This time, however, Mr. Scott was wearing a completely different suit for this Netflix satire series, Space Force.

Although it seems hard to believe that Netflix has already released the first season, the series has been available on Netflix for over a year. Now fans are watching the countdown towards Season Two. Before you press the launch button, review the first mission to see what happened. Here’s a recap of Space Force Season 1.

Season 1: Summary of the Plot

General Mark Naird was promoted to four stars. He now serves as Joint Chief of Staff alongside Air Force Commander Kick Grabaston. Although the other joint chiefs look down upon the Space Force, General Naird is respected enough to fulfill his duties. He passed the Chinese test of tolerance and kindness with flying colors.

General Naird, who has received four stars, unexpectedly moves his family to Colorado to head the Space Force in Wild Horse. The President has instructed that a secret base be established and that launches will be scheduled on a regular basis. Strange tweets by the President mentioned female body parts. This almost implied that it should be a female astronaut, or Steve’s original sense of humor. Both were vitally needed during Donald Trump’s presidency. General Naird, on the other hand, begins his search to hire spacemen and women and suits to launch the rocket seriously and enter the orbit of the moon safely.

The first episode starts with General Naird being forced to launch a satellite immediately in order to justify the high costs the American government is spending. General Naird launches Epsilon 6, a satellite, into orbit with immediate effect. This is despite the wishes of his fellow scientists. The satellite is successfully launched and begins orbiting in outer space. General Naird’s wife Maggie (Lisa Kudrow), is in prison. Erin, his daughter, is just beginning to live independently.

After the successful launch of Epsilon 6, Gen. Naird, Dr. Mallory and others notice that a Chinese satellite is ripping apart the satellite’s solar panel, effectively crippling it. This catastrophe forces Dr. Mallory to gather all his efforts to save the satellite. The crew decides to call Marcus, a chimp-astronaut, to help repair the satellite. However, the mission fails tragically and the Chinese capture the chimp. The crew is frustrated by the events and tries to find a solution. However, it’s impossible to see a solution.

New Kid in Town

The series began with General Naird, a four-star general, entering his first staff meeting with the Secretary of Defense. Naird is as decorated as one can get and believes that he is poised to take over the Air Force. The President has given him a new position, command of the newly formed Space Force. Naird persuades Maggie, his reluctant wife, to move to Colorado with their teenage daughter Erin, where they will establish a new base.

We move to one year later, when Naird is already feeling pressured by the fact that the program doesn’t fit the President’s timeline. Naird is desperate for a win and launches their first secret rocket ahead of schedule. Naird and his Space Force team launch the rocket despite Dr. Mallory’s vocal objections. But, the feeling of success is quickly shattered when Naird and Mallory witness a Chinese satellite destroy the solar panels on the newly deployed Space Force satellite.

The Space Force team is forced to find a solution to these solar panel problems out of desperation. To Dr. Mallory’s dismay, Naird again enlists assistance from a chimp astronaut currently in orbit. The mission fails, and it is now obvious that the Chinese won’t allow America to be ahead in orbital dominance. Naird is not discouraged by the failures. He still manages to help Erin with her homework.

General Grabaston of the Air Force approaches Dr. Mallory to disrupt the meeting to allow the Air Force to absorb this new space program. The Congress is persuaded to grant Space Force the money boost, despite Dr. Mallory’s last-minute speech.

A climb uphill

As the White House continues to press for more progress, General Naird is experiencing increased stress levels. We find out that Naird is not only dealing with these problems on the surface, but he is also internally dealing with them since his wife has been held for more than 40 years for a crime we have never seen.

Naird’s stress levels are only increased by his constant headbutting with Dr. Mallory. He must also complete a week of isolation in the desert at a moon habitat testing site. General Naird is literally in a state of panic due to the stress and realities of his daily life. He is fortunate to have the support of his three fellow test crew members who help him deal with his problems. He’s now ready to face these new challenges. This includes an epic War Games battle between Space Forces and Air Forces. Space Force wins thanks to Dr. Mallory’s surprising assistance.

All Thrusters go

Falsely accusing Dr. Mallory of leaking classified documents, it’s clear that China is ahead of India in the race to space dominance. India, however, has successfully launched a rocket with engines identical to the secret Epsilon Six rocket. Even though fuel was being funneled through a private company, the President and Secretary Of Defense demanded immediate progress. After the successful launch of the team’s prospector satellite, the team quickly loses steam as the first images show a Chinese base already established on the moon.

The President has taken drastic measures after learning about this Chinese base. To catch up with the Chinese, the launch of the Epsilon 6 must be accomplished years ahead of schedule. Dr. Mallory is essentially lost when he realizes he must find astronauts to carry out this extremely dangerous mission. Naird, however, has other priorities. He plans to visit his wife, Maggie, in prison for a conjugal visit. His wife Maggie, however, reveals her love to a prison guard and requests an open marriage. Naird, distraught and reluctant, returns to Space Force to discover that Epsilon Six had been selected.

Bang, Zoom, To the Moon

Dr. Mallory was not worried about a disaster but the Epsilon Six rocket launched successfully.

Naird’s great date with Kelly King only adds to the success. Naird’s daughter Erin isn’t too happy with her father’s abrupt relationship status change. This victory in space proves to be short-lived for Naird as crew members find a Chinese presence at the exact spot designated for the new American habitat. As tensions rise in orbit, General Naird and his Space Force colleagues watch as a Chinese lunar vehicle passes over the American flag that was placed by the Apollo 11 missions.

In addition to the flag insult, the Chinese site occupation causes the Secretary of Defense to demand hostile retaliation. The Space Force crew is shocked when they discover that they have all the weapons necessary to attack foreign enemies. Dr. Mallory refuses to be involved in this attack and decides that she will resign. Naird’s teenage daughter is fed up with the way her life is changing around her. She resists and goes on a joyride along with some strange men. General Naird, back at Space Force, tells Dr. Mallory he will defy President’s attack order. Dr. Mallory agrees that he can help him.
