*Drifting Home* is about 2 main characters: Kosuke, a young boy, and Natsume, his childhood friend. An odd supernatural event happens that swallows all of them and takes them to the apartment building they grew up in. They drifted on the water in their building, lost in an unknown ocean, when they arrived. They are not the only ones on their journey. Natsume and Kosuke are joined by four friends and Noppo, a strange boy who appears to have a connection to this weird phenomenon.

They do what kids do: they ride their apartment building on the water and have fun, even though they are not prepared for the dangers of being stranded at sea. *The Wandering Partitions*, based on trailers and teasers, suggests that it is a story about kids who struggle to preserve their innocence in a changing world. Kosuke is deeply saddened by the loss of his grandfather and struggles with the emotional turmoil that comes with it.

He plans to keep his friendship with Natsume intact and ensure that everyone can safely return home. It isn’t known why they were compelled to navigate a building in solitary water. Nevertheless, the mysterious boy who joined them may be the reason.

The film was able to hold onto its vision throughout its runtime, and it told a satisfying and complete story. From the beginning, the screenwriter had a vision that he wished to see on the screen. He did everything he could to make the story as consistent and linear as possible. Natsume was a child who saw her parents argue from an early age.

She suffered a severe psychological response and cried often in the hope that it would make things better. She realized that her crying was not helping her and her parents, so she began to pretend everything was fine.

Her life is eternally changed when she meets Grandpa Yasuji. Grandfather Yasuji welcomes Natsume with open arms and offers her a secure, joyful life. Natsume quickly realized that she wasn’t able to pretend she was fine; she was actually joyful. When he died, the stability and regularity he brought to her life seemed to have disappeared.

*The Wandering Partitions* ends before Kousuke, his friends, and their families return. The apartment complex eventually reaches an unknown island, which is inhabited by ghosts resembling Noppo. Noppo tells them that this is where he must part ways with them. They will be eternally lost on the island if they try to stay there, and they will never be able to return home.

Though Natsume tried so hard to keep everyone together, when she realizes Noppo has made peace about her future there, she gives up trying to persuade him. Soon, she takes the building and Kousuke and friends begin to leave the mysterious island. The entire apartment complex becomes slowly enveloped in a blue glow. Before they can work out why, however, they discover that the building has somehow returned back to its original location.

Natsume discovers that her mother is desperately looking for her at the end of *The Wandering Partitions*. This is quite surprising, as she had previously believed she would be happier without her. It becomes clear that they have come to understand their loved ones over the following days. *The Wandering Partitions’* ending beautifully captures the theme of separation and its emotional effect on children. Natsume and her friends learn from their experiences and realize the importance of not clinging too tightly to loved ones, and that it is okay to let them go when they are ready.
