Tonbo Tobitake is one of the Chunin from Konohagakure. He, along with another group of the most elite Chunin, are the main part of the Konoha Interrogation Intelligence Unit alongside Ibiki Morino and Inoichi Yamanaka.

PERSONALITY

Tonbo is a quiet and serious person and was proven to be extremely focused in the Chunin tests. However, he could also be quite raunchy and awe-inspiring, like he was in his work with Inoichi Yamanaka conducting research on Pain.

APPEARANCE

The majority of his face is covered by bandages, and he typically smokes. He wears the uniforms of the Intelligence and Interrogation Unit in Part II.

PART I

CHUNIN EXAMINATIONS

Tonbo was first seen during the writing portion of the Chunin Exams. Tonbo was one of the many ninja looking for those copying. In one instance, he even managed to find Komaza who was cheating 5 times before confronting him and expelling the ninja along with his teammates.

PART TWO

THE TWO SAVIORS

Tonbo, along with Shimon Hijiri and Mozuku, was able to help Inoichi Yamanaka get into the mind of the Amegakure prisoner Yudachi. It is at this point that Tonbo is amazed by the speed with which, by using this technique, he can see his past memories, though Mozuku harshly warned him to focus on looking at Yudachi. As Nagato’s Invasion starts, they distract Nagato from following the Animal Path to allow Inoichi the chance to think about the lessons he’s learned.

CURIOSITIES

• “Tonbo” is Japanese for “dragonfly”. Dragonflies are famous for their 360-degree eyesight, and this is the humorous aspect of Tonbo’s eyes and face being covered with bandages.
