Tonpa is often called the “Rookie Crusher” because he has the most experience on the exam. Tonpa has failed the exam 36 times. He has always vowed to ruin the dreams of others. Tonpa often boasts about his success in front of novices and offers his a**istance. He does this to hide his evil plans to stop them getting a license. Tonpa took the Exam for the first time when he was just 10 years old. Leorio, as arrogant and proud as he may be, points out that failing to pass the exam 36 times is nothing for him to be proud.
STORYLINE Tonpa HxH
HUNTERS EXAM ARC
Tonpa is #16 in Hunter’s Exam No. 287. He introduces himself and other rookies to the subway tunnel to the protagonists of this series. His intention is to sabotage their participation in the exam. He offers to drink the others, which contain laxatives, before the exam starts. Gon receives one, believing it has expired. Killua gets another.
He teams up with Leorio , Killua and Kurapika during the third phase. He then tries to make them lose by surrendering before fighting Bendot. Then he tries to create divisions within the group but fails. They all make it to the next phase. He then joins Sommy on Zevil Islands to steal Leorio’s badge. However, they are defeated, and Kurapika gets his badge.

GREED ISLAND ARC
Tonpa can be seen taking part in Hunter’s Exam No. Tonpa is seen participating in Hunter’s Exam No. 288. He nervously attempts to avoid Killua among the crowd. Killua quickly eliminates him in the first phase.
