BANSHEE BEFORE Season 5
Before we get to the core of the matter, let’s go over the last season.
Banshee Synopsis
In Banshee, a series of similar murders in which young girls were stripped of their hearts and left behind at the side of roads becomes a top priority two years after Job disappeared. Rebecca Bowman (Lili Simmons) is the third victim in these horrendous killings. Lucas Hood is forced into hiding with the help of FBI Agent Veronica Dawson, Eliza Dushku. The power balance has been altered in Banshee with Brock Lotus (Matt Servitto) taking the title of Sheriff and Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thompsen) being elected Mayor. He has been making deals with the Aryan Brotherhood, led by Calvin Bunker and Chris Coy.
The Season 3 finale sees the start of the Hunt for Job (Hoon Lee). The original gang is back for a dramatic, all or nothing run that pushes the boundaries of dysfunctionality.
Banshee Season 4, Ending Explained

Banshee ends its story with a series conclusion. It focuses on the best Banshee can do so that characters can go in style.
This series is famous for its pulpy, weird, and sometimes terrifying crime series. It was a series that had high expectations going into its final season. It was renowned for its ability to deliver offbeat elements that felt in harmony with the larger themes and character arcs of the series, so it was not surprising that it would attempt to throw the audience a curveball in its final season. This show was not only going to give the audience a satisfying end for its characters in the small Pennsylvania village, but it would also take advantage of the changes that took place behind the scenes such as the move from North Carolina into Pittsburgh and the fact the season order of ten episodes has been shortened to eight.
Before the season began, series creator Jonathan Tropper spoke about some Banshee episodes like ‘Truth About Unicorns’ and ‘A Fixer of Sorts’ – episodes from which a large portion of the show’s fame for taking risks and creating memorable episodes – and compared season 4’s plot to a Satan-worshipping serial murderer within Banshee’s city limits to a multi-hour version. Bode, his horn implants, and his loyal followers, who are known for setting fire to young women and supporting their ritualistic slaying, made this episode great. Eliza Dushku’s drug-addled FBI agent Veronica Dawson could then take over and lead the way for Dennis O’Hare, Agent Robert Phillips.
All the ingredients were there to create a unique and memorable presentation. Bode exuded a friendly, but strange vibe as he mixed drinks alongside Veronica and waited for her heartbeat to start. This could have made him a legend in the history of great oddities like Burton or Brantley (from ‘A Fixer Of Sorts’). However, this was not the case. Bode could not be a mere nutjob passing by. He needed to convey terror and create tension so that Veronica’s arrival, and the implications of Rebecca’s murder, could have a greater impact on the season. It is clear that a serial killer plot could have had an impact on the season. Banshee some interesting edge to cut through all the narrative rigmarole, difficulties and challenges of a final season. Bode and his horns could not muster any other than the usual unpleasant dreariness associated with these storylines.
Bode could have done much more than consume narrative real estate that should have been devoted to characters like Hood, Carrie, Job and Kai. This murder-filled storyline may have had more to it than its superficial aesthetics. Despite all the attention Bode gave it, the storyline was unable to reconcile with larger, more significant themes that ran through the show’s final two seasons.
Bode was defeated in a bloody, more Banshee-like episode. For an hour of solid television, the show was able to find its feet. It didn’t waste a moment or skimp a beat. Finales can be difficult. Television doesn’t always get it right. It is important to acknowledge all of the past and also consider the uncertain future for many characters who will live long after we are gone. The Tropper-scripted final hour does a great job of dealing with all these elements without feeling nostalgic. “Requiem,” while sentimental, is not too saccharine. The series’ staccato editing style is used extensively. It served to define the series over its three seasons. The characters it touched became significant characters within an hour. This was more than just a way for the fans to express their wistfulness, piety and gratitude.
“Requiem” was made to bring closure and success to many of its loose ends. The Brotherhood storyline collapsed for the most part due to insufficient time to examine Calvin Bunker’s rebellion and the threat that he posed Kai, his drug-business, and his actions. Kai calls Senator Mitchum and it’s fitting that this whole thing comes to an end. Frasier’s Dan Butler) in an attempt to stop the Aryan rebellion with just a few words. The Achilles heel of Banshee season 4, however, was the introduction of previously unknown characters that became crucial to the plot but only allowed certain pieces to move. His goal was to liberate Kai and Calvin. However, his presence also highlighted other characters such as Nina Cruz (who was killed in episode ten without ceremony by Burton and Bode).
These inconsistencies could be re-evaluated by the final. Brock’s greatest moment was when Brock, Carrie and Kai destroyed Kai’s drug shipment. It was a relief for Carrie after Gordon’s death. It was similar in nature to Job’s retribution for Damon Lindelof’s double wife Leo Fitzpatrick. This was the beginning of a series that would bring all this to an end.
While it was cruising through its final set, Banshee did a great job of interacting with every character. The series was not able to devote as much time to Kurt Bunker’s ongoing battle against his brother. It was worth it with Brock’s discussion on how Banshee’s laws sometimes need to be more like Lucas Hood to achieve the task. This was a nice nod to an underlying theme of the show. Brock’s nod towards Hood was the perfect sendoff between the men, especially after Hood’s confession in episode 6.
Other endings were more in keeping with the series’ theme and tone. Hood became the man he was dedicated to his own death when he discovered that Burton had murdered Rebecca. This brought closure to many important threads. Kai is victorious after a thrilling fight scene, in which Hood faced off against an opponent more skilled. This is true Banshee style.
Hood and the series benefit from this strength. Hood’s last scene with Carrie was probably their best. They love each other and it is evident that they have a lot in common, but to get together would be disingenuous for both of them. Hood called Anna, and she replied, “It’s Carrie.” speaks volumes about how different their paths have become, and perhaps always have been. It was a show about a man trying to find his identity. It ends in Sugar’s bar with Hood, a nameless man who is out in the real world for the first time in a while.
This was no easy task. Banshee finally found itself in the right place at the right time to make it out in style.

Watch Before you review Banshee Season 5

People forget The Banshee is a hidden gem in the remote reaches of Cinemax’s cable dial. Banshee was many things during its four-season run. It covered many aspects of Banshee, Pennsylvania’s charming, violent hamlet. The original show’s focus was on the Amish community’s connections to the town. However, the show has been expanded to include a local Native American reservation as well as Russian mobsters.
Banshee is fundamentally unchanged. It is about a man without a name who takes one from a deceased Sheriff and becomes Lucas Hood (Antony Starr). Banshee explores identity. This story is illustrated by Hood pretending to be a police officer, while he is really a criminal. This is the story for all characters: men and women who are trying to escape their pasts or just learning about it or who find out who or what they want. Are they bad? Bad? What is the best way to justify their actions to their family members and society?
In the last chapter of Banshee, it is a type of reset that involves a two-year time jump. It unites all the parts of the show. The final episodes of the show have a tone that is appropriate for their time. Hood feels the full brunt of Gordon’s weight (Rus Blackwell) passing, Job’s (Hoon Lee) abduction, and the difficult relationship with his daughter (Ryann Shane), as well as the loss of Siobhan (Trieste Kelly Dunn). These ghosts haunt Hood until Rebecca (Lili Simmons) comes unexpectedly to his rescue. Hood is connected to Rebecca via her strong uncle Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thomsen). Rebecca is the main character of this season.
Although the setting of Banshee has changed over the years, the relationships between the characters will remain the same. The characters’ interactions with one another will surprise viewers. Brock (Matt Servitto) is now the Sheriff he had always hoped to be. Kai serves as mayor. Carrie (Ivana Milicevic) has moved into a quiet house to deal with her grief. Sugar (Frankie Faison) is still at the bar where the gang meets. Banshee now has to confront a serial murderer, who could or might not be related to the neo-Nazi group under Calvin Bunker (Chris Coy). Kai has an enviable connection to Kai through the drug trade. (And don’t forget Kurt, his brother — Tom Pelphrey – is also on the police force).
Banshee’s life is full of unexpected twists and connections. There’s also the usual brutal violence. This show is an egregious example of creativity. It finds new and more gruesome ways to kill people, and even indulges in torture porn. Its chase scenes and heists are the show’s greatest moments. And the strategies that Hood & co. have devised to make sure they always win. They remain alive even in the midst of trouble, grief, or back to square one. This feat is not easy.
Important to remember is that Banshee has its emotions. While flashbacks are great for adding context, some reunions, revelations or connections can be quite powerful. Because the show has invested so much in character development and plotting, this is why. Hood and Kai are two of most interesting relationships. They are sometimes enemies but they have a history of helping one another and their interactions are some of the most memorable in the series. In the case against the serial killer, both men are suspects. They will continue to be connected, which could lead to a stunning payoff (knowing the series). (Brock uses humor to show that Hood, Kai, and Hood are together on a riverbank. He says, “Just as in old days!” “Except nobody’s bleeding. Yet.”)
Banshee has a new purpose and is as good as ever. Hood is a serial murderer and Hood’s search to find the truth (and his search for Job) ties together many elements of earlier seasons in ways that will delight long-time viewers. It can be hard to say goodbye to a show that has such an iconic legacy. But Banshee appears to be taking inspiration from Neil Young’s words: “It’s better not to burn up than it to fade away.”
How many episodes of Banshee Season 5 can you count?
