Big Shot Season 1: Summary and Ending, Explained

Big Shot is a comedy-drama series that airs on Disney Plus in 2021. John Stamos, a temperamental basketball coach and main character, stars in the series. It explores emotions on and around the basketball court, showing the vulnerability of characters that you might find interesting.

Big Shot Season 1: Plot Summary

Marvyn Korn (John Stamos), is fired from the NCAA Men’s basketball team due to his outrageous behavior. He is then demoted (kinda) to the Westbrook high school girls basketball team. Marvyn feels depressed and is determined to regain his coaching skills. It is not an easy task. He discovers this the very first day. Marvyn fires Louise Gruzunisky, the star player (whose super-rich father hired him first). He shames Destiny, a player who is trying to reach her full potential on court.

Marvyn is able to get along with the faculty. He does manage to make contact with Holly, his assistant coach, and they go out for a beer to get acquainted. Their lives are very similar, especially in the area of failed marriages. Marvyn says that basketball is all that matters in his life. Holly, on the other hand, realizes that her marriage was ruined because of her cheating husband.

Marvyn has a rocky relationship with Principal Sherilyn. She is open and honest and knows how to end the conversation. Although he starts off on a bad note with the school staff and the team, he slowly improves his image by building a winning streak that brings the team to victory.

Marvyn has a difficult time settling scores with his daughter. She is not staying with her mother, but is open to moving in with him. Marvyn fails her emotional needs. She moves in with her dad and learns that he is obsessed with basketball and match strategies.

‘Big Shot’ Season 1 Review – A Gen Z Drama With Cliche Plot

John Stamos was the “Wounded” man, with his intense face and stoic personality. We see glimpses of his resentful father and his aggressive behavior issues. His Tough To Soft Go attitude fluctuations create confusion and make the character less complex. Holly suggests that they treat the characters as boys and Marvyn says that if all they do is compliment them, it loses its value.

David E. Kelley has created a drama that is suitable for Gen Z. A great supporting cast is a real charm. Stamos shines when he delivers intense monologues. His vulnerabilities become clear when he brings his little girl to live with him. He is more attractive because of his reserved mannerisms.

The End of Season 1 of ‘Big Shot’

Each character comes to terms with their differences towards the end of season 1. Marvyn realizes that basketball cannot be his primary priority forever. Emma, his daughter, passes an audition for a stage play. Marvyn discovers how to balance his work and personal life. He has the support of his team and UCSB is keen to hire him as coach.

The end is predictable. Westbrook’s team wins despite all difficulties. Emma wins with her father transformed and is selected in the Play. The Season 1 finale is completed, but there are still some exciting possibilities for season 2.
