What Is Crossing Swords All About?

Crossing Swords, an American animated stop-motion sitcom for adults, was created by John Harvatine IV (Hulu) and Tom Root. A peasant with good intentions who dreams of knighthood is made a squire in the royal castle. His dream job isn’t all he hoped.

Hulu’s stop motion medieval comedy Crossing Swords is back for season 2! The next chapter of Patrick’s adventures (Nicholas Hoult), is ten more episodes of bingeable madness. He climbs the ladder to knighthood at the service of King Merriman (Luke Evans). There are new friends to make and enemies to defeat, as well as horrors that will scare Patrick for his entire life. This includes bloodthirsty Leprechauns, an island of killer monkeys, and a villain who could end all of Patrick’s past experiences. John Harvatine IV, Tom Root, and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios are the creators of Robot Chicken and Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. You will also hear the voices of Tara Strong and Tony Hale as well as Maya Erskine and Adam Ray.

Crossing Swords Season 3 Characters

Crossing Swords features a great mix of characters in each scene. The animated series features Patrick (voiced by Nicholas Hoult), King Merriman (voiced by Luke Evans); Queen Tulip, (voiced by Tara Strong); Broth (voiced by Adam Pally); Coral; Doreen (voiced by Wendi McLendon–Covey); Ruben (voiced by Adam Ray); Blarney (voiced by Tony Hale); Sloan (voiced by Alanna Ubach); Glenn (voiced by Seth Green); Keefer (voiced by Breckin Meyer); Princess Blossom (voiced by Maya Erskine); Yvette Nicole Brown voices Meghan. Season 2 has been canceled. There is no character list.

The first season of Crossing Swords introduced viewers to a new approach to the adult animated series. John Harvatine IV and Tom Root were inspired by Robot Chicken and took the lessons they had learned from that cartoon to create this series. They set it in Medieval Times. The show shines in the second season when it focuses on the plotline. Patrick, the squire, returns to his quest to become a knight. This season can feel lost and distracted, however, when it chooses to follow a straight line whenever it feels.

Its cast includes the likes of Nicholas Hoult and Luke Evans as well as Tara Strong, Tony Hale and Tara Strong. This season, the cast is at their best. Some of the cast are so unrecognizable that they seem lost in their roles. Hoult, Evans, and Erskine are again the standouts. I only understood the voices of the actors after the episodes were over.

Crossing Swords Season 2 : Preview

It would have been nice if these characters were given more development. Patrick is the only one who gets that kind of development in the series. Here things start to feel disjointed. Crossing Swords feels like it is trying too hard to be different from other adult animated series. It randomly decides it wants to tell a linear tale. The show quickly attempts to wrap up the story and then throws viewers back on an unfocused path. These one-off episodes lead to a story-arc. This is when the show gets really interesting. However, it quickly wraps up its story development and returns you to the absurd nonsense that the series continues to survive on.

There will be moments in the series. If there is a line they won’t cross, they won’t. While some jokes are funny, the humor is not as strong as it should be. Unfortunately, this animated series lacks the heart and soul of many others. Crossing Swords feels like you have lost all your momentum because you realized that you had run out of gas. Although the series seems to be enjoying its vulgar humor, it quickly becomes tiresome.

Crossing Swords feels like a mix of Robot Chicken and Something Like Rick and Morty. It could be something truly special and original, but it doesn’t feel committed enough. Its unique animation style and cast are its saving graces. However, without a solid story it can feel as alive as the old king.
