NETFLIX HAS RELEASED EQUINOX, A NEW NORDIC MYSTERY THRILLER SERIES. CONTINUE READING TO LEARN WHAT HAPPENED AT THE FINALE OF THE SHOW.
Equinox, a new Netflix series, is being compared with the German Netflix series Dark. Since the December 14th YouTube trailer was posted, fans have been flooding the comments section to share their excitement. The show’s Nordic nature is also a unique feature. It’s actually a Danish mystery series. Equinox was released on Netflix December 30, 2018. The show has an engaging mystery, moral complexities, and gorgeous knitwear. However, there is one twist. This is Equinox’s ending.
Equinox Ending Explained
The Danish Thriller is about Astrid (Danica Cucic), a 30-year-old journalist who recently divorced and is also a mother of one. Astrid is unexpectedly taken back to her childhood and broken spirit when she gets a disturbing phone call. Astrid is hosting a late-night radio talk show on the phone that discusses long-held fears and superstitions. Astrid receives a call from her past that prompts her to return to Copenhagen, her hometown. Astrid arrives in Copenhagen to discover the truth about the tragedy that decimated her family at nine years old.
Astrid starts to deal with a mystery that has remained unsolved for 21 years. It all began in 1999, when 21 high school students disappeared into thin air as they celebrated their high school graduation. Her 18-year-old sister Ida was among them.
Astrid was just nine years old when the incident occurred. Astrid was only nine years old when the incident occurred. She began to experience nightmares that were traumatizingly detailed about it. She was forced to admit herself into a psychiatric ward as her nightmares got worse. She didn’t know they would eventually help her solve the mystery. Astrid delves into the dark past of this mystery and everything begins to unravel.
What happened to Astrid And Ida?
The Nordic mythology is richly rooted in Equinox’s story. Understanding a little bit of the mythology behind Equinox is key to understanding the disappearances of 21 children. Although the show is based upon the folklore Ostara, it is told in different ways. However, its Danish and German roots connect it to the origins of the Easter Bunny. Ostara, the Spring Goddess, is a human woman whose name was borrowed from the pantheonic rituals.
Ostara falls madly for the Hare King at the equinox. He reciprocated her feelings to the same degree. They could not sustain a relationship due to their nature and they had to part ways. Ostara, even though they had to part ways, felt his presence everywhere. He discovered eggs in places where they had been together.
Astrid hears this tale as a bedtime story from her father. It does, however, foreshadow the ending. The show suggests that Ida was Ostara in all likelihood, and Astrid, Ostara’s real sister, is also implied. Lene was the woman they considered their mother, but she couldn’t get pregnant. Lene makes a deal with the Hare King in the form of Henrik. Henrik gave Lene Ida in the olden days. Their agreement stipulates that Lene, the girl Lene was gifted, would return to Henrik at 18 to deliver what she had promised.
The god was furious when Ida got an abortion and she didn’t know it. He then held her and her 20 classmates hostage until the deal was completed. Because Ostara is believed to be a part of the family’s blood, Astrid returned to him 21 years later with his book. Everything was then corrected. All students who were long trapped are released and Ostara is reunited with him. Here’s the part where the supernatural stuff really kicks in. Instead of returning to the real world, however, Ida and Astrid decide to live in another realm with the Hareking.
Why were Jakob and Amelia not held captive by the Hare King, Falke?
Unknowingly, Jakob and Amelia had already contributed to Lene’s deal to give Ida to him when she was 18. He spared them when things turned sour and made sure that Astrid was taken care of again when it came to Astrid. The three of them had to pay the price for the things they did to Ida. Jakob was clearly punished. He lost the woman he loved and was forced to resign from the Hare King. Amelia had suffered more than she ever could have imagined. She lost her best friend, her life, and her sanity. Falke was mentally ill for many days until she was finally able to get things back on track. Jakob Falke and Falke knew that their purpose was fulfilled. They took their own lives.

Since there is no confirmation of a second season, it’s hard to predict who will reprise their roles. Astrid is contacted by an anonymous caller to inform her about the fate of her sister and other children in the first season.
Season 2 may focus on the caller’s involvement in the case. Curcic could reprise her role as Astrid in a season that focuses more on the sisters’ lives before the events that led to Astrid’s disappearance.
Season one features Dennis Lars Bergmann, Karoline Hamm, Astrid’s sister Ida and Hanne Hedlund, as well as Amelia Fanny Bornedal.
Equinox Season 2 Plot

Review Before To Watch Equinox Season 2
Equinox is a mix of German Series Dark and feature film Midsommar. This Danish series has a lot to offer. It features a mystery that engulfs the entire series as well as flashbacks and light bits of horror. Equinox requires patience, as it is difficult to find the good stuff. The ambiguous ending will make or break your experience.
The story is split into two separate timelines. Astrid’s sister Ida, along with a group of students, leaves town in 1999 on a Graduation Bus. Ida is among 21 students who go missing. Falke, Jakob, and Amelia are the only ones to survive.
Twenty years later, Astrid still feels haunted and betrayed by the disappearance of her sister. She works at a local radio station and receives a strange, garbled phone call: “It’s me, Jakob Skipper.” She disappeared.
Astrid is compelled to investigate this shocking revelation and returns home to Copenhagen where she begins digging into the truth. As Astrid continues to follow the breadcrumb trail and speaks to many different witnesses and suspects faint whispers of a sect, satanic demonics, and a family secret threaten her world.
The 40-50 minute episodes also include flashbacks that reveal the truth about Ida (and young Astrid), interspersed with methodical investigation.
This editing is beautiful. Smooth tracking shots seamlessly overlap fades between scenes. These are great as Astrid follows her sister’s steps and uncovers painful moments she would rather forget.
Although there are a few jump scares, the main focus is on the moody and suspenseful music that runs through each episode. The music on this show is actually the best, evoking the suspenseful feeling Dark created.
Equinox, as I mentioned earlier, is a slow-burn thriller that can sometimes feel a bit too slow. This one is a slow-burn thriller that requires patience. It’s also advised not to eat too much.
Equinox is actually one of those shows that I wish Netflix would release one episode per week. There will be many theories and opinions about the events that unfold. These ideas are often quickly dispelled or strengthened by the next episode. The joy of this show is in trying to figure out what happened. I found myself deliberately spacing these screeners over 2 or 3 days, rather than rushing through them all at once.
Danica Curcic is the compelling and mentally unstable Astrid, which stands out alongside the narrative work. The complexity and depth of her portrayal of Astrid, a sister trying to get past Ida’s disappearance, is well balanced with the sound design. This makes it so captivating.
Equinox isn’t perfect, and some people will be turned off by its slow pace. It takes patience and perseverance to reach the best parts. In a way, Equinox feels like the research scenes from the American remake of The Ring. You will persevere if you are invested in the story. However, some may be discouraged by an unclear ending.
Equinox has six episodes and is worth a look if you love mysteries or mind-bending suspense.
