Netflix has announced Kleo Season 2. After a successful premiere season, the second season of the spy thriller series was created. Kleo was co-created under Zeitsprung Pictures’ production. It is produced by Richard Kropf and Hanno Hackfort.

Kleo Season 2 is the story of Kleo Straub, Jella Haase’s former Stasi assassin and her quest for revenge. Dimitrij Schaad will play Sven Petzold, an underachieving West Berlin police officer. Kleo Season 2 could see the return of Vincent Redetzki and Julius Feldmeier, as well as Vladimir Burlakov.

Showrunners will be Richard Kropf and Hanno Hackfort. Zeitsprung Pictures’ Michael Souvignier and Till Derenbach will handle production.

Kleo Season 1 Review

Many revenge thrillers have been published over the years, especially ones told from a woman’s perspective. This genre has been repeated many times including Kill Bill, Hard Candy, Carrie, and Killing Eve. Kleo, Netflix’s latest German thriller, has now been put on the backfoot. The show is both new and familiar, but it manages to feel refreshingly fresh. This show takes a simple but effective formula and transforms it into a bloody, twisty-turny thriller.

Kleo takes place in Germany between 1989 and 1990 just as the Berlin Wall fell. Kleo isn’t just a revenge thriller. We follow Kleo Straub as she assassinates Stasi targets. The show feels espionage-y. Kleo is an expert agent who works for her grandfather to eliminate targets. Kleo was hired off the books.

After Kleo kills a man in a West German club, the police, especially Sven, start to discover her identity. Kleo is sentenced after she is accused of being pregnant while she was still giving birth. She is also being criticized by her grandfather and coworkers. Kleo also loses her child, which is not good news.

Kleo is consumed by anger and vengeance. She waits for her turn. Kleo sets out on a bloody revenge mission to pay back the people who sent her to prison.

The season’s first part follows a pretty standard format. Kleo tries to discover the contents of a mysterious bag and takes out several targets. This is a critical McGuffin move, as it holds the key to Germany’s future.

Because it changes things up, the second half of the season can be very interesting. A surprising alliance can change the pace and tone of the season in a way that is unexpected.

There are similarities between Killing Eve and the dark comedy and the visuals. Kleo is an impressive and visually striking venture. It has a consistent theme that uses reds, blues, and yellows throughout. It’s something you cannot ignore once you have seen it. This story was woven together by the creative team in a natural manner.

Episode 6 is especially indulgent. The first part serves as a flashback to Kleo’s childhood and her connections with that red suitcase.

Despite its many positive aspects, there are some problems that make this a less enjoyable adventure. Kleo travels to different countries on “missions”, however, the single-episode adventures feel rushed. These episodes could have been much longer. This is ironically one of those shows which would have greatly benefited if there were more episodes.

Kleo is quite funny for a show with a lot of violence and bloodshed. Kleo is genuine in its desire to bring humor and lightheartedness into the story. There are some jokes that don’t work, but this one will be a good fit for anyone who liked Quentin Tarantino and Killing Eve’s humor.

Kleo is definitely one to watch for in this year’s list of best shows. Kleo’s screenplay is not perfect and it needs more episodes. However, it’s a solid revenge thriller. It is full of twists, turns and great visuals. This story is a must-see.
