It was hard, but the most difficult was witnessing the daily lives of children there. These at-risk children are hard to ignore once you have met them. Each day was a challenge, but it ended at night when we returned to the hotel. Joffe stated that the dangers and suffering of children do not end.

Joffe’s unforgettable moment was also seeing Shawn Heinrichs work in Raja Ampat with manta Rays.

The shoot with Dylan River in Australia’s outback was equally special – it was the first time that the series had been shot there. Joffe had traveled extensively across Australia as a teenager, and he felt a strong connection with the Aboriginal communities.

“Filming Bill Harney, the great Wardaman elder in Victoria River was an amazing experience. Bill is a warm and generous person with an unrivaled knowledge of his people. It was an honor to film sacred rock art sites and hear Bill tell the story of his dreams.

Joffe brought the visuals to life by using every production tool that the team had access to, including drones and gimbals as well as underwater housings and all the best cameras and glass.

“But then you have to find the right balance. Sometimes the most impactful moments are small details, expressions, and glances. These fleeting moments of truth can only be captured by rolling the camera. This means that you must be true to documentary filmmaking, and keep the camera moving.
