The Summer I Turned Pretty Before Season 2

Before approaching The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2, let us make a small summary of the last season.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap

It has been a very emotional summer for Belly (Lola Tung), and all the other characters in Cousins Beach’s Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty. Based on Jenny Han’s novel, it was a great time. After his long-awaited, late night kiss with Belly, the love triangle between Conrad ( Christopher Brney) and Jeremiah has heated up. Steven ( Sean Kaufman ) has been trying to be “enough” for Shayla ( Minnie Mills), but it’s spiraling after yet another setback. Laurel ( Jackie Chung ) has been struggling to deal with Susannah ( Rachel Blanchard), who has made peace with her death and is not willing to go through any experimental trials. The season finale brings more chaos than normal for everyone involved. There are some surprises, good and bad. Let’s get into it.

Susannah couldn’t be more excited for the big day. Belly wakes up and Susannah has a brief but sweet heart-to-heart with her. Belly is ready to let go of the dream if she doesn’t. She loves Susannah and is determined to finish the job she started. Jeremiah will be accompanying Susannah, which allows Susannah to show how much her sons love Belly and that they would do anything for her. Steven has some serious problems, even though everything seems perfect for Belly.

Steven has lost all of the money he had saved all summer to Liam ( Connor Hammond), and his poker team in the previous episode. He doesn’t have enough money to purchase the items he needs to transport Shayla to the ball. This causes some problems between them. Shayla is a good sport and offers Steven a slightly worn suit from her father. Steven is shocked to learn that Shayla had once been with Liam. He then spirals into insecurity, finally addressing how he feels about Shayla’s wealth, but he’s not. He tells her how he feels that he must compete with the people in her life like Liam. Shayla, however, says it’s because he’s not like her. This puts the couple on solid ground and allows them to move forward.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Recap

The truth about Susannah’s illness is revealed in the most shocking way. Conrad knew about it for months and only confided this information to Cleveland ( Alfredo Narciso). Jeremiah, who was at the ball looking for Belly’s parents ( Colin Ferguson) after they mysteriously left during the introductions of each debutante, goes on a search. He hears them discussing Susannah and her cancer. At least he has enough to make a suspicion about his mother’s motives. Slowly, he starts to piece together the details, such as how his mother has been smoking more marijuana and sleeping more over the past few weeks. Jeremiah takes his mother’s phone and leaves the ball for him to look at. He searches for the proof he needs, only to discover that his mother is suffering from cancer and is now in imminent danger. Things get complicated when Jeremiah contacts Conrad to discuss what he found on his mother’s phone. Conrad knows and has kept it from Jeremiah. Jeremiah, anger fueled, throws a punch at Conrad and fights with him in the middle the debutante ball.

The Fisher and Conklin families are left with their own moments of grief. Steven and Belly come to terms that Susannah won’t get better this time. Belly admits to her mother that she has been carrying this secret for months. Laurel was shocked to see her children holding on to her secrets. Conrad, Jeremiah, and his mother are having a conversation elsewhere in the house. Jeremiah is unable to understand the fact that Susannah has decided not to undergo any experimental treatments. She explained that the chances of her doing so are virtually non-existent and that she doesn’t want the last months to be spent as someone else. Conrad begs her for reconsideration. He seems to have made peace with it, at least with the fact that his mother is now dying. Jeremiah doesn’t press Conrad on the matter. Susannah changes her mind after her two sons begged her to continue fighting and to stay with them. Now, there’s hope.

Belly, Jeremiah and the other Fisher brothers are missing from the ball so Belly has no one to accompany her on the obligatory waltz. Never fear! The other Fisher brother steps in and brings to the surface the deep feelings they have been hiding or lying about for the entire summer. It’s not surprising that the waltz ends with them kissing on the floor. Although Belly and Jeremiah do not officially end their relationship, it is clear at the end of the season finale. Conrad and Belly sit down on the beach, and finally have an actual conversation. Conrad apologizes to Belly for his treatment of her over the summer. Belly wishes Conrad had told her what was happening so she wouldn’t have had to. He tried several times before being stopped. Conrad finally states that he wanted Belly. The two of them share an earth-shattering kiss that forever changes everything. “This Love” by Taylor Swift is.

Cousins Beach is still alive and well with an renewal early for a second season and two additional books to be covered, summers are not over. The finale is just right to make some significant changes in the status-quo for everyone.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Release Date

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Release Date

Prime Video has yet to announce when Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty will be released. We expect filming to begin in the next few months, given that the original season has been renewed.

Prime Video is aiming to release Season 2 in summer, just like Season 1. This would make it possible for a June/July 2023 release. Prime Video has not yet revealed how many episodes they have ordered for Season 2, but it is likely that it will be seven more episodes.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 plot

In the second book in Jenny Han’s trilogy of books, Susannah is diagnosed with breast cancer. This has a profound effect on her children. Conrad runs from home in the midst of his grief. Belly and Jeremiah set out on a road trip to find him. Belly and Jeremiah become closer, and their love triangle deepens.

We don’t know if the TV adaptation will be faithful to this storyline. Han’s TikToks has shown Rachel Blanchard (who plays Susannah) hanging out during Season 2, which suggests that we will most likely see her in the next installment. It remains to be determined if those flashbacks are present-day scenes or flashbacks. Susannah agreed to begin clinical trials for her cancer treatment at the end of Season 1. Han hinted that Season 2 would see more deviations from the scripts. Han said to E! that there will always be changes. The 20th Annual Asian American Awards was held on December 17. “I’m the one making the changes. So I guess you can get mad at me because I’m changing it!”

The Summer I Turned Pretty and Cast

Prime Video has not yet confirmed who will return to The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2, but based on the books we believe that most of the main characters will be returning. So, you can expect Lola Tung and Christopher Briney to return, as well as Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, Minnie Mills, and Gavin Casalegno.

What is The Summer I Turned Pretty about?

The story centers on Isabel “Belly”, a young girl who falls for two brothers named Conrad and Jeremiah. Belly has had a long-standing crush on Conrad her older brother and now he is finally showing interest. But then, his younger brother Jeremiah starts fighting for her affections.

This is because they are having one last summer at Cousins Beach. It’s where Belly’s family has traditionally met. Susannah, the mom of the brothers, is currently battling cancer. Susannah decided that she does not want to undergo aggressive treatment. They all want to enjoy a normal summer, but it becomes more difficult.

Han has two books left in his original series. The second season may follow the story of It’s Not Summer Without You. It tells the story of Susannah’s death and Belly’s fractured relationship with Conrad. He runs away and, while on a road trip with Jeremiah to find him, Belly finds herself looking for her younger brother. This could be the plot for season 2. However, there were some changes to the first season’s book and an interview with E! News from December 2022: Han confirmed that some things will be different.

She said, “There are always going to be changes here and there. So I guess you’ll just need to wait and watch.” “I’m the one making the changes. So I guess you can get mad at me because I’m changing it!”

Review Before To Watch The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2

Jenny Han’s “To All the Boys That I’ve Loved Before” is her adaptation of Belly’s novel. She (Lola Tung) navigates romance and other life-changing moments during the summer of her 16th birthday.

Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty is an excellent coming-of-age story. It’s tenderly written and charmingly performed. It’s sensitive to the subtle, but not irreversible, shifts in self perception that occur with late adolescence. And yet, it’s clear enough to see that teens, including its blushing heroine can be clueless jerks as they figure out their newfound powers.

It’s disappointing that the love story is wrapped up in a less convincing love story, with connections that aren’t as felt as they are explained in detail in voiceover. Although they aren’t clumsy enough not to sink The Summer I Turned Pretty completely, they keep the series from flying as high as it could.

Adapted from Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, the show opens with Isabel (Lola Tung), who is preparing to spend her 16th birthday at Cousins Beach. She will be accompanied by her mother Laurel (Jackie Chung), Steven (Sean Kaufman), Susannah (Rachel Blanchard), and her handsome teenage boys Conrad (Christopher Briney), and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Belly considers Susannah’s beach home a sacred space. It is her home and it never seems to change.

But something happened this year and it’s right in the title. Belly is Tung’s real star, her shy smile and unsteady posture indicating that she hasn’t forgotten the gawky child she was — and that she’s still trying to figure out who she is as a woman. She keeps hearing the words, “This isn’t you”, from those who have cared for her throughout her life, including her mom, Conrad and Taylor (Rain Spencer). They don’t understand that she is now trying things she didn’t like, such as deb balls and illicit beach parties. This is her way to find out what is.

The Summer That I Turned Pretty understands it. It’s easy to see why everyone seems to be having a difficult time this summer. Belly is the main character, but there are other characters, like Susannah or Laurel, who can also deal with their own problems, freed from any petty jealousies and grudges that may be occupying their children. Belly’s growing up is about feeling like she is the main character of her own story. A late-season revelation reminds Belly that everyone is their main character.

Belly has seven hours to explore her evolving relationships and self-understandings, as well as the many emotions that come with it. Han’s writing is supported by a soundtrack that features smash-hit singles. For example, Frank Ocean’s “Super Rich Kids” plays as Belly attends a party with super rich kids. This might seem obnoxious if it weren’t for the fact that Olivia Rodrigo and Ariana Grande are relatable to teenage girls. It is amazing how their lyrics reflect one’s inner turmoil.

Unfortunately, Taylor Swift’s songs are not enough to make up the lack of chemistry in the romances. The Summer That I Turned Pretty is based on almost every boy falling in LOVE with Belly. This, admittedly, makes for some delicious wish fulfillment. The series features young actors who look just like high school crushes. Casalegno’s Jeremiah is full of boy-ness, David Iacono is all endearing geekiness, and Briney’s Conrad has a hot-and cold moodiness that my adult self finds extremely annoying but that my younger self would love. The plot traps Belly and all of the other teenage characters in a strange holding pattern. They can’t work towards any happily-ever-afters until Belly is done enjoying the joy of having too many boyfriends.

Worse, there is little chemistry between the ships in the series. The Summer I Turned Pretty is a great example of how friendship can be just as important to a happy life as romance. The series does a better job of selling friendship than romance by trying to distinguish between the two. Susannah and Laurel and Belly and Taylor and Jeremiah, Jeremiah, and Steven are all examples of pairings that can blossom into true romance through a shared laugh, rich history, and mutual understanding. Contrast this with Belly’s seemingly long-standing crush on Conrad, which is hard to invest in because so much of their screen time is spent dancing around and not enjoying each other’s company.

This is not an insurmountable problem. It ties together all the series’ narrative threads with enough emotion to garner the second season’s already-greenlit. However, it is telling that the most touching moments come from the families and friends and not the apparent couplings.

Let’s hope The Summer I Turned Pretty follows Belly’s lead and lets itself decide what kind of story it wants, rather than trying to conform to the romances of its source material.
