Before approaching Vigil Season 2, let us make a small summary of the last Season.

Vigil Season Recap And Ending Explained

Hello, sailors. Sunday night saw the BBC’s sub-aquatic thriller hit its thrilling, waterlogged climax. Did the many plot twists leave you with that sinking feeling?

Our definitive answers to your burning questions are available at Vigil‘s final…

Craig Burke was killed and who is responsible?

Craig Burke was killed and who is responsible?

Poor Steve Arnott. He should have worn his lucky waistcoat. Eight minutes into the series, Chief Petty Officer Craig Burke (Martin Compston), was found dead in HMS Vigil.

Initial reports suggested that he had died from a heroin overdose. Soon, DCI Amy Silva (Suranne) discovered that the drugs had been planted to hide the true cause of his death. She initially thought Burke died from a delayed brain hemorrhage.

Silva realized that the man had been poisoned when she discovered a strange stain on his fleece. Jackie Hamilton, Galley chef (Anita Vettesse), was blackmailed to administer a sarin-style nerve agent via Burke’s food.

His murder had three purposes. It silenced the “mouthy little guy.” Burke was compiling a dossier about Navy corruption after he had been converted by Jade Antoniak, a protestor girlfriend (Outlander‘s Lauren Lyle). Peter Ingles, a Russian intelligence operative (real name Piotr Vassiliev), had also approached Burke. He knew Ingles’ identity so that he could have an asset at Dunloch Naval Base.

It meant that the boat was able to surface to board an investigator detective. This was something the Russians wanted to exploit but for the presence of a US sub right under Vigil. It also ensured that a replacement sonar operator could be flown out. It was CPO Matthew Doward (Lorne McFadyen), the villainous scowling swine.

Jade was killed by whom and why?

Jade was killed by whom and why?

It was Vigil’s Romeo & Juliet story. Burke was secretly involved with Jade, an activist who worked together to expose flaws in Britain’s nuclear deterrent. It looked like a coordinated attack against the whistle-blower couple when Jade died within days of Burke’s death.

Jade was murdered because she had taken a photo of Ingles and Doward. Jade was unaware of what she had, and assumed Ingles was an MI5 spy on the protestors.

Cal MacAninch, Peace camp leader Ben Oakley, set up Jade’s meeting with Peter. He promised to tell Jade what happened to her boyfriend. To protect his Navy insider, Ingles drowned Jade at the Loch.

Jade had second thoughts about their roadside assignment and decided to text DS Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie), the password for Burke’s protected files. These would prove crucial in cracking the case. They didn’t go unpunished.

Who and why did Jackie become a chef?

Who and why did Jackie become a chef?

Jackie, who was distraught over the poisoning of Burke, first appeared to be sobbing when Burke’s body was being carried through the submarine. Ingles had convinced her to kill Burke to make Russia pull strings to free her son Shaun from an Indonesian prison where he was currently serving a 10-year sentence for drug charges.

Silva discovered this when she heard about Shaun’s early release. Jackie discovered the same stains on her bedsheets as Burke’s fleece when she searched her bunk. Unfortunately, it was too late. Soon, Burke’s cook was found dead in her catering storeroom.

Doward had left a note of threat in Jackie’s pocket: “Bali is not a done deal.” One last chance. You’ll be joining Burke if you don’t follow the instructions. Doward was sent an encrypted blueprint of Ingles’ boat’s ventilation system. Doward requested that the nerve agent be released where it would cause the most casualties.

Jackie was unable to go along with it, but she panicked and set it off by accident. She was the only one who was killed.

What was Doward’s treacherous plan?

What was Doward's treacherous plan?

Doward’s mission consisted of bringing Vigil to the surface to allow for crew evacuation. Russian ships would stand by to claim credit and stage a photo opportunity. This PR stunt is designed to? This PR stunt was to make the UK’s nuclear arsenal look weak and a security risk. This is a convenient excuse for MPs not to vote softly on defense but to remove Trident from the forthcoming funding vote.

Doward joined the team to complete the job after Burke’s murder was unsuccessful due to the American sub-covertly shadowing Vigil. He first sabotaged the reactor, leading to an emergency shutdown. He then deliberately put the sub on a collision course with an oil tanker. He finally forced Jackie to give up the toxin while trying to silence Silva and Prentice (Shaun Evans), both of whom had figured he was the spy.

Doward took the desperate step of flooding the boat to distract, escape capture, and hold Silva at knifepoint. He instructed Commander Neil Newsome (Paterson Joseph), to get on the surface and meet up with the Russian vessels that were closing in. He was overpowered by the crew and eventually arrested. You are a traitor.

Doward believed that MI5 would exonerate him if he cooperated in a spy trade to avoid embarrassment at trial. He didn’t realize that he wasn’t actually there. He could be captured and “put in a box where you shitin’ in a bucket”.

You might be able to hear the world’s smallest violin if you pay attention.

Who was Ben Oakley working as?

Who was Ben Oakley working as?

Like his name, Oakley was shady. Although he wanted to push nukes out from Scotland, he was weak and went too deep. He was giving anti-Trident information to Patrick Cruden (Stephen McCole), and he boasted that he had “friends in the peace camp”.

Review Before To watch Vigil Season 2

Martin Compston is in trouble. Jones, Jones’s detective, must calm the turbulent seas. This murky marine drama delivers solid, old-fashioned entertainment.

A nuclear submarine. A dead body. An unstoppable force pulled a fishing trawler with her crew under the waves. Reactor shut down. Suranne Jones, a bereaved detective police officer, trying to cope with her grief and get on with her job. Martin Compston (DCI Architt from Line of Duty). As – well, that’s what we’ll do. Paterson Joseph is a naval captain, whose first duty was to his crew and mission, not to a murder investigation. This BBC drama series has six parts and is a humdinger. Be aware of your fears – the submarine scenes in the BBC’s new drama are very submariney. There are tiny bunks, narrow corridors, and high building pressure. But anyone can watch them, they will be rewarded with hours of old-fashioned entertainment.

We start with the trawler crew and banter until something grabs us. Then we begin to pull them down into the deep. HMS Vigil, a mile away and below, hears their distress cry. Petty Officer Burke (Compston), argues that they should rescue the boat. Captain Newsome (Joseph), insists that they should not abandon their position or leave themselves open to being manipulated by whatever happened to the boat. Burke is sent to his bunk for calmness.

He is dead, the result of an apparent heroin overdose. Suranne Jones was Amy Silva, who was called in by the DCI to investigate. For three days, she will be aboard the ship. This is not the ideal environment for someone who is still experiencing PTSD flashbacks from the car accident that threw her and her family into a river and drowned a large number of them. But the job is the job. This is a testament to the quality of the drama and the understated authenticity that it doesn’t feel as fake as it could.

It’s a satisfying and fulfilling journey through a complicated plot. Silva’s examination revealed that Silva was actually dealing with a crime. She must investigate the complicated relationships, enmities, and loyalties of her crew members and negotiate the unwritten and written rules that govern this closed community. We see behind the scenes the animosity between Mark Prentice, the captain, and his arrogant lieutenant Commander Mark Prentice (Adam James). They seem to be united in the need for a lid to prevent any scandals – whether it be the drugs aboard the ship or the fact there is something large enough to bring down the trawler but they failed to spot.

Kirsten Longacre, Silva’s right-hand woman (Game of Thrones’ Rose Leslie), is looking into possible links between Burke and antinuclear activists. Jade (Lauren Lyle) is the one arrested. She used Burke’s security card to enter his room at the base military base, and admits that they were in a relationship. She claims that there was no way he could have been a drug user. Longacre goes into his bedroom and discovers a flash drive hidden in the cabinet. However, she is stopped by the high naval heidyins and police as she attempts to leave the base.

Vigil holds, and continues to hold, as I eagerly look ahead, the various plot strands in perfect harmony, before weaving them into an organic whole. Compston’s role continues to be important. The whole story develops into a complex conspiracy drama involving British security services and the navy.

This is all done without losing sight of the people behind the larger international affairs. This is a rich, dense and sharply written show (by Tom Edge), about a dark, mysterious world that refuses to reveal itself and that viewers will want to explore.
